CNN Poll: Majority says government a threat to citizens' rights
Submitted by libertyBoy on Fri, 02/26/2010 - 10:03The government really only has one job - to protect the natural rights of its citizens.
Washington (CNN) – A majority of Americans think the federal government poses a threat to rights of Americans, according to a new national poll.
Fifty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday say they think the federal government's become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. Forty-four percent of those polled disagree.

Suddenly CNN provides
Suddenly CNN provides accurate, incisive polling data, whereas previously they were NWO shills? Sometimes folks posting here crack me up. Adopt any shred of so-called evidence when it's convenient to the cause, even when it's provided by a mortal enemy, right?

Did you hear Neil Borts today?
He asked a question to his listening audience:
"Do you believe that our top political leaders are INTENTIONALLY trying to destroy our economy?"
Wow! Glad to see these relevant questions being asked, FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY.
It's a key question.
Time is running out for them, and for us.
An imminent clash is not far off.

Hmm...
Looks like more and more Americans are starting to wake up. This is good news, but will those 56% of Americans be willing to take action? Lets hope so...

If those numbers are not doctored I would have to say 44%

The reason we have government
The reason we have government is to protect our God-given Rights. I wish I could claim to have originated that thought, but it was said before I was born. It is found in the Declaration of Independence.
So if government exists for the purpose of protecting our Rights, why is it that the greatest threat to our Rights is coming from our politicians? It's not Middle Eastern terrorists who are eroding the Bill of Rights, it is Democrats and Republicans.
The point I always try to make, and nobody seems to get is, IT IS NOT OUR GOVERNMENT THAT IS A THREAT TO US, IT IS OUR CRIMINAL POLITICIANS. Our government operates under the Supreme Law of the Land. We elect people to serve us - public servants, who take an oath to support the Supreme Law of the Land. When these public servants break that oath, when they step outside the parameters of the Constitution, THEY become the threat to our Freedoms, not the government.
My old example of a policeman who burglarizes homes while on duty is a criminal, because HE is breaking the law. It is NOT the police department who hired and pays his salary. His actions are in violation of the policies of the police department, as well as state and local laws. And it is the same with elected, appointed and hired public servants.
They like to hide behind "the government", but when their actions are contrary to the oath they took to support and defend the Constitution, THEY are personally accountable. That's what the Nazis found out an Nuremberg.
.
I don't completely disagree. But, I should point out that power corrupts. It's naive to think we can give politicians power to take our rights and then expect them not to take them. I guess what I'm saying is that it's as much the peoples fault as the politicians.

Great point indeed
I had never thought of it that way.
But you are absolutely right. That's a good distinction to make when talking to people, because almost EVERYBODY will agree to the point that there ARE evil scoundrels in gov't (the criminal politicians).
But not everybody agrees to a blanket statement that "government is evil". And this latter statement is not accurate, because it's an absolute.
In our case, most of Congress is rotten, and most senior-level (president, VP, their chosen cabinet), senior officials in the state department, treasury, etc., ALMOST ALL of these are evil to the core, and are intentionally leading our country astray, for power and gain.

Great Point Greg
Couldn't agree more.
Personally I don't consider myself as much anti-government as I do anti-corrupt politicians.
And where do you stand with
And where do you stand with regard to politicians who provide what their constituents ask of them? How else do you think they get elected? No, not just by "lying", but by giving people what they want. So, really everyone is complicit in this vicious circle of give and take.

the fake two party system and the heavy hand of a over bearing Federal government.

Note the partisan split
Roughly: 40 percent of Democrats, 60 percent of Independents and nearly 70% of Republicans agree.
All my Democrat friends have such faith in Government.
.
I would have liked to see the numbers when republicans were in power.

Republicans have faith in
Republicans have faith in Republican controlled government and Democrats have faith in a Democrat controlled government.
Of course. The entire Democrat platform
for decades has been expand government to a nanny state. It is their whole "moral" imperative that Liberals bought. The Republicans joined in since the pork was so good for all politicians -- and instead of the fantasized beneficent nanny state we got Big Brother.
It just depends on whether "your leader"
is the one taking people's rights away...
Great news!
Thanks for posting!

The real problem in America are the Democrats!
They are either blind as bats, or flat out don't care about freedom!
The pole breaks it down into political parties as follows regarding "the federal government poses a threat to the rights of Americans"
37% percent of Democrats,
63% percent of Independents
70% of Republicans
The Winds of Change!
Abandon the R v. D thing
This poll only two years ago would have reflected the Democrats fear of government and the Republicans saying "what's the problem?"
Looks like folks are finally waking up
Hope it's not to late.

How blind are the 44
How blind are the 44 percenters?
Let me get this straight
The gov says we are the enemy of the gov
And we say the gov is the enemy of the country
I think the lines are being drawn. Take a side, it will be a wild ride.

Damn CNN poll?
That is left-leaning-statist central.

"This Country Began As A Tax Revolt."
Daddy WarBucks, that is a very powerful revelation.
Oppression seems to be the end of the Rule of those who gain power. Men seem to seek releif from oppressors, only to begin oppressing men again: through new systems of government. They never seem to grasp the idea that men cannot be free from oppression, unless they be unwilling to become oppressors. It's very sad, and unfortunate, that men have not grasped this concept over thousands of years.
The most important factor
is being a moral and just people - clearly our "leaders" and the current system are not such.
