AIG posts US$8.9 billion loss, warns of more aid.

NEW YORK -- American International Group Inc. reported a quarterly loss of US$8.9 billion on Friday and warned that it may need additional U.S. government support, even as it tries to pay back taxpayers after a US$182.3 billion bailout.

AIG shares fell 14 percent in premarket trading.

The insurer said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that without additional government support, "in the future there could exist substantial doubt about AIG's ability to continue as a going concern."

If they couldn't turn this around with 182 billion there is no way another 9 billion is going to do a damn thing, let the m'fers fail already.
