Columbia MO Police to deploy downtown safety cameras.

Two Columbia public safety unions entered the political arena this week with endorsements of the downtown camera initiative; one also endorsed a Columbia mayoral candidate.
The Columbia Police Officers’ Association and Columbia Professional Fire Fighters came out in support of Proposition 1, an initiative on the April ballot that would authorize Columbia Police Chief Ken Burton to deploy downtown safety cameras. The firefighters group also threw its support behind mayoral candidate Bob McDavid.
In supporting downtown cameras, the groups said they supported having more tools to do their jobs.
