DR. PAUL HAS BEEN INVITED TO THE SRLC!!!

I sent a letter to Charlie Davis, the President and CEO of the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, requesting that Dr. Paul be invited to speak and put in the straw poll at the event. To my great surprise, I just received a phone call from him this morning in response. He says that Dr. Paul has been invited and they are awaiting his answer, which they are expecting this week some time.
Alright!!! I'm assuming he will accept the invitation, right? Now let's win another big straw poll for him! This one is supposedly the more important proving ground for presidential candidates for 2012.
The event takes place in New Orleans from April 8th - 11th. Their website is srlc2010.com

I've been following this site for years, but I never felt the desire to post anything until recently, so that's why I'm a new member.
I have no reason to lie, and I don't see any advantage to RP's opponents for making up such a thing. Why would anyone bother? This is exactly what happened:

My contact info was on my letterhead and he called me on the phone this morning (3/1/10). I was quite surprised. I had told no one else about it, so it must have been him. He was very friendly. He told me that Dr. Paul had been invited, and that they were waiting for his answer.
It's possible that he was being untruthful with me, I suppose, but I doubt it. I don't think he would have called me if that were the case. He could have simply ignored the letter. I guess it's also possible that Dr. Paul's invitation was for something less than a prime speaking spot, or that he still isn't going to be included in the straw poll. I don't know about those things, but what I do know is that Charlie Davis called me on the phone at my office this morning, and he told me that Dr. Paul had been invited, and that they were waiting for his answer.

I'm concerned we may not get enuf people to SLRC it's a Hannity
type crowd with Limbaugh and Hannity both there, Gingrich, Pawlenty, etc. Others are having side events, C4L has no plans there that I see. If RP is going to be on the ballot, we have to mobilize supporters. Is anyone on here now in Louisiana or nearby?
If RP accepts, then we can rest assured that C4L thinks
it's worth doing. And if that's the case, just trust their judgment and let's get as many people as we can to show up.

It's a gathering of Party adherents. NOT a fertile ground for advocates of liberty. It's not even a discussion of ideas. No other speakers such as Tom Woods or Judge Napolitano. Don't expect much to come of it.

If RP is there, perhaps a lot of liberty minded people will show up. Anything can happen. If he wins again, it would be big.

But I wouldn't fall into the trap of making a big deal of this ahead of time. The vote is rigged.
But yes, in general, I think the more people that Dr. Paul can reach the better, at least in the long run. Which is what it's all about.

Just trust RP. If he accepts, then that means he thinks it's a good idea, and we'll do the best we can. I agree, we don't have to freak out about winning. Just make a good solid effort with what we've got.

If he doesn't win, it won't matter that much. But if he does, then it will be big news. Don't you think?

I agree a win would be huge, but I don't see how that is possible, given the nature of the gathering. I'm not saying he shouldn't go; RP's speaking is what's important. The vote? Not so much.

We should start a chip in, I'd pay for someone to vote
but can't get there. Now that we asked him to be invited we have to have him win. This could be an issue because I believe Palin's folks have been organizing for this one for a long time. Remember, who WON the caucus there was the 'unnamed prolife candidate' (and how they translated that to 'McCain' is still a mystery....) We can't have gotten RP into this and leave him in the lurch. What do we do about organizing people to get there? Is this up on the state pages near there on C4L? Have the YAL folks been in the loop?
