Swear Not at All

“Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’ But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one." -Jesus, Matthew 5

"Above all, my brothers, do not swear- not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned." -James(Jesus' brother) James 5:12

I've been thinking about this for a few months, and it continues to blow my mind. What would society be like if we followed this simple command? This thread really got me thinking a few months ago. http://www.dailypaul.com/node/110911 I would really like us all to explore this deeper. This is a perfect message for so-called Christians, because it highlights their hypocrisy. It's also a great message for the atheist because it shows the wisdom of Jesus' words. He gave us the cure to tyranny 2000 years ago. More info: http://books.google.com/books?id=Pkfe20EZbfQC&printsec=front...

wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
Proverbs 5: 15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
