Why don't we start a currency system based on the "Paul".

I'll give you a 100 pauls for that jacket, and 50 pauls for those shoes.
And I'll give you a 1,000 pauls if you can come up with a good idea of how to use the internet and the CFL to get it started!
It's all about ideas folks, at one time currency was only an idea!

It already exists, or at least did. See what happened to Bernard von NotHaus and the liberty dollar:

Note: This is not an endorsement of bitcoin, in fact I know very little about it including not knowing whether it is even viable.

Why do we need a currency at all?
Why not just use silver and gold directly? Why 100 pauls, why not 1 gold milligram? It's already possible to do it right now. There are already ways right now to do online transactions in gold and silver. It would be straightforward to extend this to debit cards, checks, etc...
As far as I know, there is nothing stopping people from doing this already--except finding merchants who will accept it.
Please do enlighten us on some details
I was just using RP's name because so many associate him with sound currency, it would help the idea catch on.
