Barry and Candi Raided and Arrested For Busting Kops

Our home was raided by two narcotics units Tuesday for a misdemeanor warrant of "False Report To a Peace Officer." The raid was conducted felony style and was led by the Williamson County Sheriff's Department. The raid was a direct consequence of our KopBusters sting last week where we caught a kop in Williamson County stealing drug money.
I spent two days in solitary confinement and Candi is scheduled to turn herself over to authorities Monday. The police took all of our computers, cameras, media and even Candi's Ipod. Lawyers from across the country are calling the raid illegal and state we were targeted as retaliation for our KopStings.
Candi and I need your help because although we are strong, the effects of a raid are horrific.
Below is a poem my thirteen-year-old daughter, Kenzie, wrote regarding the raid:
"Day of The Raid:
Without delay, the kops take my daddy away. Keep my daddy okay tonight. Daddy is in his jail cell. These feelings don't feel well with mom under her spell. Angels take away the stress. Keep my daddy okay tonight. I'm worried he's a mess. What they have done to you is not right. Feels better when my family gets here. I only wish my daddy was here. I hope the angels can hear. Can you hear me? Hear my prayer. Keep my sweet daddy okay tonight. My love is with you. These pigs insult you yet mom keeps her virtue. Lord, help my mom. I see she's trying to stay strong. And if you could Lord, put my daddy to sleep with a soft song. I promise Daddy, you will be okay tonight.
Daddy Is Released:
Two days later, Daddy is home now. The angels delivered him safe somehow. Prayers were answered and dad was okay through the nights. Now these feelings feel more than right. This time he hugs me without his hands cuffed. Not with his elbows but with his hands so tough. He gave me a letter addressed to me that he wrote in jail. He cried when he wrote it and I cried when I read it and at the end, we maintain our commitment. I thank the Lord for hearing me out and I know without a doubt, you were watching over us that terrible night. I thank you dear Lord with all my might. Long Live KopBusters.--Kenzie Cooper

They were prepared, and know enough to work the media and the courts on this, but they still need our prayers and support.
The Coopers have generated a lot of good will and respect among Texans, who have suffered with this kind of "Boss Hog" corruption on many levels in their communities.
Even within the law enforcement community, Barry has gained in stature, because his actions have given hope that the honest, hard-working cops won't have to carry the shame of corrupt cops actions trashing their good name.

Solicited for legal advice, Maury D. Beaulier, an attorney in St. Louis Park, MN, said that home invasions on the basis of an alleged misdemeanor are rare in his experience.
“A search warrant may be issued if there is probable cause to support the belief that evidence of criminal activity may be found with the warrant,” he wrote. “To be issued, a law enforcement officer must submit an affidavit seeking the warrant.
“In my 19 years of experience with criminal defense matters, a search warrant for a misdemeanor charge is certainly unusual. It indicates to me that this is a targeted investigation. It may be targeted because it is believed to be a part of a greater crime or conspiracy, or, perhaps, because there are political motivations at work.”
The articles' author cites the judges' bio as having probable conflict of interest:
"According to legal documents, the warrant to search Barry’s home was issued with the approval of Judge Judy Schier Hobbs, a Justice of the Peace in Williamson County’s fourth precinct.
While the county’s biographical information on Hobbs lauds her as the Taylor Area Businesswoman Association’s “Woman of the Year” for 1989, and the State of Texas Justice of Peace and Constables Association’s “Judge of the Year” for 1998, a quick query of the State Bar of Texas reveals that she was not a lawyer before being appointed to the judicial branch, where she has served since 1982. Hobbs is a life-long Williamson County resident and her husband, the chief of police in the City of Taylor for over 30 years, once served a stint as Williamson County’s interim sheriff.
One of Cooper’s associates called judges like Hobbs a “judge in a box,” always ready to assist police, even on something as rare as an alleged misdemeanor that makes police want to breach someone’s home.

But he was stopped on his way to a speaking engagement at University of Texas, I am sure they ( kops )knew that, as it was an advertised event. Apparently the cop that pulled him over made a comment about something he saw in Barry's garage back at his (Barry's) house. So it sounds like they had been parked right there in Barry's neighborhood spying on himfor some time. Creeps.
