John McCain Authors Bill to Detain Americans Indefinitely
Submitted by Alli on Tue, 03/09/2010 - 13:09This is a big deal and the bill's language is highly troubling
WASHINGTON D.C. – The man once held as a P.O.W. and tortured after his A4E-SKYHAWK jet was shot down during the Vietnam War has authored a bill entitled, “S.3081 – Enemy Belligerent, Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010” which thus far has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill outlines the process by which Americans may be held indefinitely, without notice of their Miranda Rights, and without ever being charged with a crime. Worse detainment of an individual according to the legislation is authorized by mere suspicion that the individual did or seeks to harm any asset of the United States government or any civilian target.

I'm sick to my stomach
I just read the whole bill. This is an abomination to human dignity. The language is carefully written to allow any transgression against anybody for any purpose. Here's a tiny example: the bill attempts to define the criteria by which a human being would be designated a 'high-value' detainee (as opposed to other detainee designations which also have no rights but aren't mentioned other than to provide a non-specific justification for their indefinite detainment as well):
>>>The potential threat the individual poses for an attack on civilians or civilian facilities within the United States or upon United States civilians or United States civilian facilities abroad at the time of capture or when coming under the custody or control of the United States<<<
Notice the bold statement. It would seem to give the United States 48 hours to torture someone in order to establish that they pose a threat. 48 hours is plenty of time to force a confession especially when the detainee has NO RIGHTS. Torture has only ever been used for 1 purpose in the history of the world: to force a confession so the political enemy can be tried in a kangaroo court and disposed of.

Skeletor McCain too riddled by PTSD to change his own diaper
There's just no way to put a sugary positive spin on this bill. This bill is designed to bring abject tyranny to the people of the US. McCain is human filth. What's left of him is a disgusting scab of a traitorous war pig. Foolish filthy f_ckhole idiot.

he was serious when he said, "My Fellow Prisoner" and I thought it was a slip.

Why is McCain
Suddenly authoring so many nasty bills at once? Is he expecting to be booted out this year, so he's doing as much damage as he can before going down?
That is one argument in opposition to term limits
I read an interesting study that demonstrated how lawmakers, in there last term in office, when they know it's their last term, will vote for and introduce bills that favor their campaign contributors much more than usual.
