Howard Stern for Paul Endorsement? Let's Make It Happen.

Approximately 8 million listeners tune in each week. And at any given moment during his four-hour program roughly 1.4 million people are tuned in. By way of comparison, that's more than the number of morning viewers at any given time watching Fox News, CNN and MSBNC -- combined.

Howard Stern is looking for a candidate to back, not only that, he's declared "radio jihad" against President Bush. This morning he mentioned Oprah backing Barrack Obama and decided he needs a candidate he can back, as none have really impressed him so far.

What candidate could be better for someone who has personally fallen victim to the bureaucracy and harsh punishments of the FCC? Let's give him our best reasons why someone who is such a strong supporter of free speech should back our man; Ron Paul.

Write him an e-mail and try to emphasize your disgust for the Neo-Conservative movement in the GOP party, as it might take a little convincing that Ron Paul really ins't "Just another Republican". Read the story below carefull then have at it my friends, Ron Paul could use the bump!

Salon.com: Howard Stern's Schwing Voters

The raunchy jockey is mobilizing his army of listeners against Bush -- and they could make a difference in November.

By Eric Boehlert
http://dir.salon.com/stor...

Mar 12, 2004 | Declaring a "radio jihad" against President Bush, syndicated morning man Howard Stern and his burgeoning crusade to drive Republicans from the White House are shaping up as a colossal media headache for the GOP, and one they never saw coming.

The pioneering shock jock, "the man who launched the raunch," as the Los Angeles Times once put it, has emerged almost overnight as the most influential Bush critic in all of American broadcasting, as he rails against the president hour after hour, day after day to a weekly audience of 8 million listeners. Never before has a Republican president come under such withering attack from a radio talk-show host with the influence and national reach Stern has.

"The potential impact is huge," says Charles Goyette, talk-show host at KFYI in Phoenix. "And it's not just with the 8 million people who tune it, it's that he breaks the spell. Everybody's been enchanted by Bush, that he's a great wartime leader and to criticize him is unpatriotic. Now Stern pounds him every day and it shatters that illusion that the man is invincible and he shouldn't be criticized."

"He's got one of the biggest audiences in all of radio, and perhaps the most loyal," says Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, the nonpartisan monthly that covers radio's news/talk industry. "And that's why he's so dangerous for the White House."

Stern had strongly backed Bush's war on Iraq, but in the past two weeks, he has derided the president as a "Jesus freak," a "maniac" and "an arrogant bastard," while ranting against "the Christian right minority that has taken over the White House." Specifically, Stern has assailed Bush's use of 9/11 images in his campaign ads, questioned his National Guard service, condemned his decision to curb stem cell research and labeled him an enemy of civil liberties, abortion rights and gay rights.

In other words, it's the kind of free campaign rhetoric the Democratic National Committee couldn't have imagined just one month ago.

"Our research shows many, many people in the 30- to 40-year-old range who were Bush supporters are rethinking that position and turning away from Bush because of what Howard Stern has been saying," says Harrison.

Coming in tandem with Wednesday's announcement that the much-talked-about liberal radio network Air America will debut at the end of the month, there's an indication that Republicans may finally get a taste of the commercial talk-radio wars, which for years have tilted almost uniformly to the right and teed off on progressive causes and politicians.

"Overnight, Stern's probably increased by an important percentage the amount of talk-radio airtime that is not right-wing," notes Martin Kaplan, associate dean of the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communications. "His show does make a difference in terms of media ecology and what's out there. It's letting people know how they feel is an acceptable way to feel. What the media do is put out a version of what's normal. And if all that's out there is Rush Limbaugh and Dittoheads, then centrists and progressives see themselves as the minority. But if you can hear voices on the airwaves that sound like the voice in your own head, you begin to realize it's a polarized, 50/50 nation."

Kaplan will host a nightly media affairs program on Air America. [Salon.com will contribute one story each day to Air America's programming.]

Stern's sustained FM taunts come at a tough time for the White House, which has watched Bush's approval ratings fall to new lows. Even more disturbing for Republicans was the revelation in the latest USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup poll that Bush's traditionally strong support among male voters is down significantly, and that Bush actually trails Kerry among those voters.

"That's the demographic Howard Stern targets specifically," says Goyette. "If Bush's grip on men continues to soften, he could be in big trouble."

Anecdotally, those daily phone calls from listeners -- mostly men -- who tell Stern they usually don't vote, but this year they're definitely going to vote against Bush (and it's usually against, Bush not for Sen. John Kerry) cannot be comforting to the Bush/Cheney '04 strategists.

"Karl Rove and the White House would have to be brain-dead to not know they have a problem here," says Goyette.

There are early signs that Bush supporters are indeed nervous about Stern's crusade. This week Limbaugh wrote a newspaper Op-Ed column dismissing Stern's claims against Bush as coming from "the left-wing fringe." (Stern returned fire, labeling Limbaugh a Bush "lackey.")

Stern's torrent of Bush barbs came in the wake of Clear Channel Communications' move in late February to pull Stern off six of its stations, condemning his program as "vulgar, offensive and insulting." Following the controversial Super Bowl halftime show featuring Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, Clear Channel, like most major broadcasters, was under scrutiny over allegations it broadcast indecency. Clear Channel's radio chief was scheduled to testify before Congress where he was sure to face hostile questioning. On the eve of that congressional appearance, Clear Channel, which had never raised serious concerns about Stern's show before, suspended the program from its radio outlets.

Clear Channel's move appeared to be more a symbol than a substantive effort to shut Stern down. The communications giant carried the shock jock only in six markets. Viacom's Infinity Broadcasting -- a Clear Channel competitor -- is Stern's syndicator and main radio vehicle.

But Stern quickly complained on-air that the real reason Clear Channel yanked his show was that just days earlier he'd begun questioning the president and praising comedian/commentator Al Franken's anti-Bush book "Lies, And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them." Stern insisted it was political speech, not indecency, that got him in trouble with the San Antonio broadcasting giant, whose CEO, Lowry Mays, is close to the president and the Bush family. The jock still condemns Clear Channel and its Republican connections, but most of Stern's firepower today is directed squarely at Bush and his close association with the religious right, which Stern says is the driving force behind the FCC crackdown on indecency.

Some in the broadcast business see Stern, perhaps best known for ushering into radio "Lesbian Dial-a-Date" contests, as a corporate clown whose political influence is not on par with the likes of Don Imus, the syndicated shock jock turned smart-aleck pundit. "Who cares what Howard Stern thinks about people running for public office?" says one longtime radio executive. "Imus is different, that's more of a thinking guy's show. With Howard, it's pure narcissism."

Yet Stern has proven his political clout in the past. Known mostly for his libertarian take on politics, in 1992 he made news by endorsing Republican Christie Todd Whitman for governor of New Jersey, and she then won in an upset over Democrat Jim Florio. (She repaid the favor in 1995 by naming a New Jersey highway rest stop after the jock.) Stern has also backed Republican George Pataki for New York governor. "When Stern says he helped Pataki win," says Goyette, "I don't think anybody doubts that."

That's because of the bond Stern has built with his fans. "He's got a passionately loyal audience, which includes many extremely affluent and white-collar listeners," notes Paul Colford, who wrote an authorized biography of Stern, "The King of All Media." "However he wants to play his most recent grievance, he's got a nucleus of tens of thousands of fanatics who are willing make the phone calls and send e-mails and show up at Times Square to protest, whatever the course of action may be."

"They're addicted to this guy and that's an awesome power," says Harrison. "Stern has moral authority with these people, in part because he has not been beating the drum for a political agenda for all these years."

It's that relative absence of political discussion on Stern's show in the past that might make the current anti-Bush barrage more influential. "The fact that his audience does not tune in to him to hear about politics means that he is not just preaching to a choir, in the way that most of the conservative talk-show hosts are doing," says David Barker, author of "Rushed to Judgment: Talk Radio, Persuasion and American Political Behavior." It's an audience, he suggests, that might be more open to persuasion from a broadcaster like Stern.

Approximately 8 million listeners tune in each week. And at any given moment during his four-hour program roughly 1.4 million people are tuned in. By way of comparison, that's more than the number of morning viewers at any given time watching Fox News, CNN and MSBNC -- combined.

"There's no question," says Harrison, "Stern is the sleeping giant of liberal radio."

Good News

Ron Paul listens and is advertising on Sirius Radio, INCLUDING Howard 100. The crew is on vacation right now, but if one of his ads play while they are there it will get them talking.

Needless to say, Ron Paul knows about Stern and Stern knows about Ron Paul. This is probably the closest Ron Paul will get to actually being on Stern's show, but this doesn't mean a representative like Stanhope or Liv could go on.

Now let this topic die, I'm not going to post any more responses to this so it won't bump anymore.

Enough!

Enough is Enough!
Let this post die and go away. This is stupid!

You scoff at Howard but he's a lowlife plugged into millions of

listeners and viewers. My suggestion has been to push getting the "Ron Paul" girl on his show which will at least introduce ron to millions of people. Howard is an icon to a set of the populace just as much as Cramer is to another (much more gentrified) group.

Ron Paul Girl on Howard...

-----------------DO YOU REALLY WANT RON TO WIN------------------
Ron needs more than just money. Send this strategy to mail@ronpaul2008.com and also to press@ronpaul2008.com if these ideas make sense to you

do it! Send an email about her!

Howard stern would love to have her on.

I cant believe this shit is

I cant believe this shit is still alive here. The moron Stern is no use to Dr. Paul or anybody else but himself. He is a low life with a following.

Just a point

eliminate the Department of Education and quite possibly the FCC too.

Sorry, the FCC does not need to be eliminated, only changed. It needs to be a technical and scientific function only.

Everyone jumping on any frequency at any power (watts) they can muster would be a disaster, like everyone in a big room all talking at once. Some yelling louder than others. Unless you were extremely close to one of them, you couldn't understand any of it.

This is one thing that cannot be handled by the states, since radio waves do not respect border lines. I do not know of a constitutional authorization for an FCC, unless it would be "to promote the general welfare", but to do otherwise with the radio spectrum (a limited resource that belongs to the public), would totally screw it up. Like on these cable news shows where you've got 4 or 5 guys all talking at once, and you can't understand anything any of them says. I am all for freedom. I am freedom's best friend, but in the case of the radio spectrum, it just won't work to anyone's benefit without some rules that have to be followed, from a technical point of view.

If the states COULD handle it, I'd love it, but again, broadcasts of any type do not respect borders, either state, national, nor planet wide. This is the one agency where I think the FED's are needed, if they'd only stick to the technical aspect, and not content.

Some may disagree, and if you want to argue the technical implications, I welcome it. I've been an engineer for over 20 years, I think I could hold my own.

Enforcing Property Rights.

This is the same thing as physical property. People own it and are not allowed to trespass and government courts help enforce these rights. So once the radio spectrum is sold off the people that own it can do with it what they please. If someone else trespasses they can be taken to court.

The problem most people have with the FCC is when it trys dealing with content.

Unreal

I can not believe that a post about Howard Stern supporting Ron Paul is on a permanent front page link of DailyPaul. I really don't think that Dr Paul is that desperate for this kind of endorsement. If this is what DailyPaul is promoting, instead of focusing on trying to get Dr Paul on a prominent political show like Meet the Press then quite honestly, I quit and concede to the juvenile Jerry Springer crowd.

I thought that this website was for intelligent and positive posts and endorsements. I am very disappointed not only in DailyPaul but also some of these supporters. I personally, would never assume who Dr Paul would want endorsing him without his approval. I've warned posters in here about "blowback" before and I was ignored and guess what? Posters comments in here were used by the media for negative articles where 2 screennames represented All of RP supporters. When will you all learn? When the consequences of your actions reflect on Dr Paul and cost him the Presidency? This is not a game, this is about the only chance we have to keep this country from being destroyed by ignorance.

I don't think Stern would help us in the primary.

He might be helpful in the general election.

"Freedom is risky..." Ron Paul

I think that is the beauty of freedom. Live and let live. No need to be protected from contrary points of view. I haven't listened to Stern for years, primarily cause they yanked him off the air. But, although he is admittedly adolescent, he has a truth-telling rebellious streak. The more the merrier at this freedom fest! I would welcome Stern's support! Tolerance and freedom folks. Remember, fear is the way they fool you into giving up liberty!

This is a MAGNIFICENT idea

I've emailed Howard Stern twice a few months back about this very thing. The first time, I appealed to his Libertarian side. The second time, I asked him to have Ron Paul Girl on. I don't think emailing is an effective way to get Howard's attention, though.

Has anybody considered holding a rally in front of the Sirius building as Stern's crew is coming into work? With Stern Revolution and Ron Paul Revolution signs together? There HAS to be a sizable New York Meetup capable of something like this. After all, Howard Stern's Revolution is a free-market revolution opposed to government-controlled media.

I know Howard has some liberal views. Many of his wack-packers are on disability or welfare. He's had Michael Moore on the show promotingSicko and government healthcare. Its not going to be easy, but his endorsement is well worth it.

Here's my take on Howard Stern. He's an entertainer first and foremost. He must entertain his audience. He is intelligent and sensible, though. He's also very vain. He flew the idea of endorsing a candidate in order to challenge Oprah's endorsement of Barack Obama. He also has enormous influence, evident by his endorsement of Sanjaya on American Idol. Sanjaya stayed on the show until long after he should have been ejected.

I don't think a Stern endorsement is necessary. There's no stopping the Ron Paul Revolution. We will win. But it couldn't hurt.

I refuse to listen to Stern anymore because he is a Greedy Swine

But my freind told me Pauls been getten alot of air play from the guy who's on after Stern, Bubba the Love Sponge. If it was me I would be focusing on Artie Lange who's a more down to earth American but not as Greedy and Hated as that scum Stern

Question

Did anyone even bother to ask Dr Paul if he wants Stern's endorsement? I really think that before everyone emails and calls to get Dr Paul on his show or Stern's endorsement they should have the decency to ask Dr Paul if he wants this type of media attention. Sometimes we get overzealous and don't stop to think of what the RP campaign would want. Sometimes things like this can backfire on him especially so close to primaries in very socially conservative states.

Personally I feel that Stern does not represent family values and is a slimeball and this really could be blowback for Dr Paul. Instead why aren't all of you emailing Tim Russert at Meet the Press and asking him why he has had Cobert (who was running as a joke) and Chris Dodd (who even Tim stated in the interview was zero in the polls) on his show and not Dr Paul.

Meet the Press has a huge audience of Americans 40+ and has the credibility to give Dr Paul a huge jump in public awareness on his views. Ask Dr Paul first before you do something like this and respect his opinion.

Yes,

Also nice. I did send emails to both.

I'm not sure the RP would claim to represent "family values" -- freedom values, perhaps. Freedom means allowing different families to have different values, without any forcing of a particular set of (government approved) values down your family's throat. Suggesting, perhaps. Individual shunning, perhaps. But not forcing through the government.

RP, wrt to the brothel owner, said that he was happy to receive money and endorsements from anyone who wanted freedom.

Dennis

Ron Paul does represent family values

Taking Howard Stern's financial contribution is one thing but to have someone like him endorse you is another story. Howard Stern doesn't care about freedom, the middleclass, the demise of the declining dollar the war in Iraq etc. Howard Stern cares about making money, foul language, naked women and derierre bongo's. If you truly care about Dr Paul's image you wouldn't even consider having this type of individual endorse him. Sometimes I wonder if some of you really care more about contraversy or getting Dr Paul elected. If you put as much effort into getting Dr Paul on shows that are credible then I would say you do care.

"If you truly care about Dr

"If you truly care about Dr Paul's image you wouldn't...."

Statements such as this are quite scary. Everyone supports Dr. Paul in the best way they see fit... enough said.

Totally agree

When Jerry Falwell stated that every good Christian should be concerned about the nomination of Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court, Barry Goldwater retorted: "I think every good Christian ought to kick Falwell right in the ass."

A politician playing the good church is scary indeed. It's not about do-gooders, it's about getting the Government out and Freedom in, so people can run their lives as they see fit. Stern needs no authorization whatsoever to endorse Paul, and should that happen, Ron Paul would not have to do anything about it.

Grow Up!

I am scary? You wanting Dr Paul to be endorsed by a sick, pervert who was kicked off of television and you are calling me scary?? Grow up, Dr Paul does not want this type of exposure and for you to call me scary shows not only your ignorance but also your loss of concern for Dr Paul winning. I am sick and tired of having to pay the price of people who are ignorant of history and candidates positions voting for someone that affects my life. Go ahead! Alert the media and let them know that a sick pervert endorses Ron Paul! I can see the headlines now. Sometimes some of you supporters are your worst enemies. Dr Paul is the first candidate since JFK that is worthy of representing the American people.

This is not a game! This is respecting a candidate that deserves our respect. If you truly care about Dr Paul then you would not want the endorsement of Howard Stern, a pervert, who the laughing stock of the media. Either you want Dr Paul to win or you don't. I am sick and tired of this immature attitude that ends up hurting all of us. ASK Dr. Paul if he wants Howard Stern to endorse him!!! If he does so be it!

What about asking for an interview?

It'd be hard to get him to straight up endorse the Doc.
Has anyone written any emails asking if he'll interview Ron Paul?

stern is the shit

If he believes in liberty your damn right Ron Paul should accept the endorsement.....if you don't like what howard stern says should that really matter? shouldnt the right to free speech trump your moralist disdain?

Howard hate the FCC too, so he should be a easy sell on RP

e-mail away

"Truth is treason in the empire of lies." - Ron Paul

I used to listen to Howard

I used to listen to Howard Stern and I'm going to vote for Ron Paul. Stern has a lot of listeners and Paul does too. I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only RP supporter who used to listen to Ron Paul.

Howie

is pro war? Forget it.

America is sick, call a doctor! Dr. Ron Paul.

Stern & War

After Stern changed his mind on the was he had the balls to play one of his shows after 9/11 when he was EXTREAMLY pro Iraq War. The next day he commented it was very difficult to hear himself so Pro the War and I think he was caught up in the War Fever. It would be good for him to interview RP who is one of the few people who didn't back that war and warned about what is happeneing today.

No.

Stern started-out pro-war & then came to his senses, publicly admitting he was wrong. Aside from ancient stories of illegal drug use, can anyone find me an instance of Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly doing the same?? Say for doing/saying something within the past 5 years, just to make it interesting...

Another Source to Get Ron Pauls Message Out

I've listened to Stern's show several times in the past and, although vulgar at times, I find his shocking views funny and good hearted in a satirical and entertaining way. I sent him this email:

I am writing to ask you to consider support for Ron Paul for President. I know he is a Republican, but he is the only one running for President who will end the war in Iraq, abolish the Internal Revenue Service, dismantle the Drug Enforcement Agency, eliminate the Department of Education and quite possibly the FCC too. Every other candidate is a business as usual candidate in Washington. Americans are tired of the lies, the cons and the neo-cons.

I have been an avid fan for decades. I would appreciate your support and consideration of the only candidate who can truly put our servant government back in the hands of their Masters, The People... Ron Paul!

Stern comments

Ron Paul Bloggers;

1) Correction to recent bloggers:: Yes, Howard Stern's fans do vote, they are not a bunch of teenagers and homeless people . His base, I believe is the 20 year old to 50 year old population. College students and the core of the baby boomers. Doctors, lawyers, stockbrokers, housewives, blue collar workers.... I believe he presently has 6 million listeners as compared to 12 Million when he was on FM (numbers not exact). His audience respects his opinion enough to listen to what he has to say.
2) The bloggers who feel his content is "Not quite right" for the Ron Paul campaign are missing the message of this whole movement. Personal rights and liberties. You have the right NOT to listen, the right TO listen and the right and resposbility to PROTECT your children NOT to listen. Turn it off if you don't like it.
3) His input alter the NY race for Governor was impressive. Pataki, I believe named a Highway Rest Area after him. He altered the American Idol voting system by having this horible singer by the name of Sanjai (?) knock out many better contestants.. Incredible influence.
4) He is versed on libertarian views since he ran for Governor under that ticket many years ago. The guy believes (at least when I listen to him many years ago) in the Gov't minding their own business, less Gov't and less GOv't involvemet in the airwaves(FCC violation). The guy has done more for the first amendment than many. He actually changed the landscape of radio today.
5) The guy is a patriot at heart. Problably the first anti-establishment guy after Lenny Bruce. Long live the First Amendement, like it or not.
So how do you get to him.
1) LIV THE RON PAUL GIRL. HE WOULD FALL FOR HER IN A HEART BEAT (who wouldn't, she is witty, cute and quite funny), AT LEAST GET HIS ATTENTION, MAYBE GET HER ON THE SHOW OR HAVE HER MAKE OUR CASE ON HIS SHOW. He would be all over her as would his fan base. Liv, you gotta take one for the team.
2) GIVE THE WORLD A GOOD SHOW ON THE 16TH. Power to the people. We must show the world that this is not the Ross Perot or Howard Dean show (again).
One last point. All radio personalities (IMUS,Opey and Anthony, etc)should be solicited since the tighter the Gov't clamps down on these people thru FCC regulations the more it will impact their incomes. Nobody wants a stronger First Amendment constititional right perserved than these entertainers.

Change is good!

dmp7296 is correct.

1. At a recent Florida event, Sal the Stockbroker fell off the stage. When they asked if there was a doctor in the house, there were about a dozen or so who came forward. This isn't just teenagers. Howard is the most listened-to show on Sirius BY FAR. And second place is "Bubba the Love Sponge," who I'm told has already said nice things about Ron Paul.
2. Glenn Beck offends me at least as much as Howard offends Jane. (Again, I have nothing but the greatest respect for Jane and her hard work, we just differ on whether Howard would do a good interview of the good Doctor!) I can't stand him and I don't like his show, but I'm still ok with Dr. Paul going on it even though I don't trust Beck as far as I could toss him...
3. It was Christine Todd Whitman who let him put up the plaque in the rest stop. Later it was stolen. Howard ran for governor as a Libertarian, but he generally supports free-speech Democrats and RINOs. He's not a very political person, but he could easily be converted to our side, and his listeners are quite loyal and intelligent. If the show were "only about sex" *I* could do it for 1/600th of what Howard gets. The Sanjaya thing was indeed impressive "media hacking"! :)
4. Right. Howard's the king.
5. Amen, brother! Defund the FCC!!!

I LOVE your idea of Liv going on, she'd be GREAT!!! Just Howard's kind of girl, too!! I've also said we need to get www.DougStanhope.com (who is HILARIOUS -- go see him if you like dark, raunchy comics!) on Stern's show again. Doug plus Liv would be hilarious radio. He's so far the only one to mention Dr. Paul on the show, and he has endorsed Dr. Paul.
