A good friend of mine was out for a drink celebrating a friends birthday in Connecticut. He ran into another friend from high school who now is a DEA agent. In conversation the agent said his main focus was monitoring doctors and pharmaceutical companies. Although in the course of conversation he said that "Over the course of the next few years the time of the pot heads is coming to an end". Come to find out this agents father is also retired DEA who still deals with the agency as a lawyer. As far as these guys are concerned the War on Drugs is alive and well..

I don't know if you have access to a meetup group or anything, but to help out Roger Christie perhaps a chip-in of sorts could build funds necessary to put some full or half page ads in a local paper.

I would place ads for Jury Nullification - since, in all likelihood, the court wouldn't allow it to be brought up.

To help out Roger Christie!!

Thanks for asking, all the information in this other thread.

Marijuana minister says “This is the last marijuana trial.”

End of Hilo’s Holy War?
Marijuana minister says “This is the last marijuana trial.”
by C.J. Cameron Johnson | Jun 22, 2011

Rev. Roger Christie / With a new attorney and a delayed trial date, Hilo’s marijuana minister plans to challenge the basis of the government’s case by calling into question the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) current, allegedly disingenuous, classification of marijuana. Facing anywhere from five to 40 years in federal prison for crimes relating to the distribution of marijuana, Rev. Roger Christie, founder of The Hawaii Cannabis (THC) Ministry, appears to be digging in his heels, even as his co-defendants (“the Green 13”) are making deals with the government.

Before his arrest (and to this day) the popular Christie believed providing marijuana as part of the religious experience at THC Ministry in Hilo was protected under the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act (RFRA). Though he operated openly as a state-licensed cannabis minister out of a Hilo storefront for 10 years, it turns out the federal government does not agree Christie is protected by the RFRA. After a prolonged and extensive investigation involving undercover agents and wiretaps, federal law enforcement officers raided Christie’s home and church in March 2010.

Very bold, and I think that

Very bold, and I think that since the DEA was involved he actualy has standing and could procede, but not in a Hawaii court, it would have to be in DC right?

States (individual) rights vs federal power-play

The new video, "How Weed Won the West", deals with this issue better than any documentary so far.

Here's the trailer:

Everyone on either side of the prohibition argument needs to weigh this self-evidential presentation of facts, and defend our common understanding of ALL basic human rights.

BTW Dr. Paul is in it.

Great DVD, I purchased a copy at a recent Hempcon event

How Weed Won The West,
is a micro overlay, of a macro economic transistion from the monopoly of CIA and foreign cartels, into the hands of the sovereign, albeit with substantial regulation
The transistion is into a membership with protections, including security and a community feel and respect, grown from the grass roots and after 30 years of attmepts of legalization, legalization is opening it's doors to serve the public.

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

politically motivated?

"While Hawaii has a law allowing the use of medical marijuana, the sale of marijuana is illegal under any circumstances and dispensaries are not allowed, although the state Senate has passed and sent to the House a bill to allow medical marijuana dispensaries. The measure was introduced by Sens. Will Espero, Robert Bunda, J. Kalani English, Brickwood Galuteria and Josh Green, all Democrats. Green is a physician from Kona.

The bill, if passed, would levy a $30 per ounce tax on medical marijuana, and would bring in an estimated $50 million yearly to depleted state coffers. It's scheduled for a hearing before the House Health and Public Safety committees at 10:45 a.m. today in House conference room 209 at the state Capitol Building in Honolulu."

Hmm... taxing medicine...

Does Hawaii equally tax other medicine (by weight, or weight/therapeutic dose)? If not, that portion of the law is going to get eliminated under equal protection auspices. I would hope that the law includes the standard severance language (the rest of the law stands even if some part is found to be based on the color of law).
