NASA Predicts A Solar Flare Will Knock Out All Electricity in 2012
Thoughts? It seems plausible...
Newly discovered evidence by NASA predicts that a super solar storm coming in mid-May 2012, which occurred on Earth in 1805, could occur again and knock out all electricity on the planet, taking us back 100 years.
Prior to 2006, researchers at NASA and other similar think-tanks discovered strong evidence that a solar storm is coming–and this week the most intense solar maximum in fifty years has been detected. The facts are starting to grow.
The prediction has been issued by a team led by Mausumi Dikpati of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). Dikpati’s prediction is unprecedented.
According to Dikpati “The next sunspot cycle will be 30% to 50% stronger than the previous one,” she says. If correct, the next solar maximum forecast for 2012 would be a global catastrophe–second only to the historic Solar Max of 1958 and 1805.

NASA has been saying the sky is falling for years now. turns out, solar cycle 24 has repetedly failed live up to their hysterical forecasts. We are in a weak, slow, delayed solar cycle (24). There is no reason to believe solar sctivity will mysteriously change to a different trajectory.

No, you cannot. You can get a GUESS at tomorrow or next week, but they provide HISTORIC data for anything beyond that. They make no attempt to predict the weather right here on earth that far out. What makes you think they can predict the SUN's weather, YEARS in advance?

They are trying to make it sound like they are predicting a storm on that date. Those are impossible to predict.
Plus, there could be 100 storms, the most powerful ever seen.
But unless they are pointed at Earth, nothing will happen.

Catastrophe second only to the Solar Max of 1958. If it was such a catastrophe in 1958 how come we have no memory of it and life went on an progressed just fine technologically etc?
Also if it knocks out the electricity over the whole earth so what we just turn it back on. Or is he saying it will render all electrical components useless and un-repairable? That sounds more like an EMP from a nuclear blast over the earths atmosphere. And even that will not take out everything.
Sound like more fear mongering or perhaps tipping thier hand for what they have in store for us?

In the 1980s in Canada
it took out all kinds of electronics and big power distribution transformers. The induced energy can cause short circuits and fires. Back then, most electronics were 2nd gen type stuff. Nowadays, everything has microprocessors which are more sensitive to this kind of disturbance. There could be large repair bills for everything from your car to your PC to your microwave.
I'd be curious to know if you had a metal roof and you grounded it, would that be enough to redirect the energy or is it some kind of energy wave that would go through a steel roof. Not that I'm planning to line my attic with tin foil. At least not yet.

It has some drawbacks...
Every single year I take multiple lightnings strikes (while I am home, who knows when I'm not there). You can hear the house cracking and starting to buzz about 3-4 secs before the strike.
Basically it turns the house into a huge stepleader that is always there.
Fortunately I've never taken the main stroke yet, just a feeder, and what's really odd is that it always hits the exact same place on the roof, the northwest lower edge.
Before the roof was grounded, a hit would make fire shoot out of the outlets, lol. Now it's not too bad, but we'll see tommorow as it's another thundersnow day.

Why it matters
A CME is charged particles. That's moving electrons, or current. Current creates a magnetic field, magnetic field creates current.. AKA electromagnetic wave.
When that hits Earth, the power lines are like the windings of a transformer. The changing magnetic field (from the wave) induces current in the lines over 100's of miles. The current melts wires, destroys transformers - etc.

So it also depends on it's orientation to the Earth's Field.
