Why America Should Apologize
by Connor Boyack

In an interview last week about his new book, No Apology: The Case for American Greatness, Mitt Romney was asked what he meant when saying that America need not apologize. He responded as follows:

While we've made some mistakes, we have a record of promoting freedom, peace, and prosperity throughout the world. There is a view in Washington that America will be eclipsed by other nations. I think that would have grave consequences for freedom and world peace.

True to form, he did not actually answer the question. He first made a highly superficial concession that we’ve made some mistakes. (Which? How often? How damaging?) He then goes on to blabber about a "view" that other nations might "eclipse" America, something he feels would have "grave consequences." How this is in any way connected to the original question is anyone’s best guess.

Mitt Romney, unsurprisingly, is wrong. He’s not the only one spouting this hollow rhetoric, however. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said recently during his CPAC speech that we should "never, ever, ever" apologize for America. Former Governor Sarah Palin said last fall that we "should never apologize for our country." George H.W. Bush said, as President, that "I’ll never apologize for the United States. Ever. I don’t care what the facts are."

These shallow and ignorant statements are an affront to any sense of justice, morality, and civic virtue. If, as Romney suggests, America has "made some mistakes," it might just follow that, depending on their severity and damage, we should apologize and/or make reparations. To see where this might apply, and in stark contrast to the superficiality of Romney and his like-minded cohorts, let’s dig a bit deeper and consider a few examples, in no particular order:

WE need not appologize, it is

WE need not appologize, it is the Illuminati who need to appologize and then be hung!

Mitt

Who?

I apologize

for the atrocities of my government and only wish I had the power to stop them from commiting more. I know I am supposed to and am doing what I can to elect the right representitives, but they all lie or their aren't enough of them.
If only there was a way the ones that have been damaged by the US could hear me and I'm sure many more of us.
Can you imagine how many of them think we have a government that does the will of it's people? They don't know we are lied to and terrorized by our own government. Many os us don't. Oh how they must hate us.
Although it seems that many have forgiven and don't. We should learn from that.
Some think saying sorry would make us appear weak. How does continuing these atrocities make us look?

Correct...

Saying sorry makes one humane, not saying sorry makes you inhumane.

Did not know they had released that many.

Good article.

Mitt, Mitt, the hypocrite...

this reminds me of how Mitt gets on the stage and talks about freedom, and how he's such a proponent of it.

Really Mitt? I beg to differ:

If you don't believe that a sick person can choose what they medicate themselves with, then you're simply not a proponent of freedom. It's just that simple.

'Cause there's a monster on the loose

This is NOT coinsidence that they are

all spouting this line it is brainwashing the public. If the public read "WAR IS A RACKET", "CONFESSIONS OF A ECONOMIC HIT MAN", or "SHOCK DOCTRINE" they would not fall for this stuff.

As a Christian, and a Patriotic American

I believe this attitude is deadly wrong! 2nd Chronicles 2:14 says "If my people, who are called by my Name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways , THEN I will hear from Heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land.

I understand why Romney may have messed this up, and Huckabee too. Palin has taken herself down a few more notches on my list. The Germans are beginning to understand this, as are the Catholic and Lutheran Churches.

Yea but,

"MY sheep hear my voice & they follow ME"..Notice no ifs, ands,or buts..Claiming to be a Christian Nation & then doing everthing opposite as a society & gov't, you miss the full jist..Gov't must govern more than just Christians as society is not made up of just Christians..The legislature has ruled to take God out of the schools & teaching ,so where does that let the idea of a Christian Nation..I'm a Christian not just self proclaimed..Gov't has the roll of defending the Constitution, not just it's citizens..Our US gov't is presenting to the World it's own vision, which no longer represents the Christian vision..It's a vision of mob rule..Lawlessness..They make the rules as they go, to suit their administration purposes..
Their citizens' interests have become secondary, & less important than the promotion of the ENTITY..
Christian is no longer the controlling factor ..This is why I cannot understand another religion attacking what does not exist..Christianity is not the enemy, America has left Christianity for something in & of itself..THE ENTITY..You cannot grip it..

To proliferate a false idea, the idea that replaces Christianity..
This is apostasy..

Politicians are blinded by GREED-

They're not going to apologize when their wrong!

Agree...

I always wonder or dream of how Dr. Paul would speak about these atrocities as President of the United States.
