Texas Yanks Thomas Jefferson From Teaching Standard

0 votes

(March 12) -- Widely regarded as one of the most important of all the founding fathers of the United States, Thomas Jefferson received a demotion of sorts Friday thanks to the Texas Board of Education. -- http://www.aolnews.com/nation/article/texas-removes-thomas-j...

and from http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2010...

Among the changes approved today, the board:

• Struck the word "democratic" in references to the form of U.S. government and replaced it with "constitutional republic."

• Added references to "laws of nature and nature's God" in lessons about major political ideas.

• Rejected lessons about why the United States was founded on the principle of religious freedom.

• Removed most references to "capitalism," "capitalist" and "free market," because conservatives said they had a "negative connotation." Instead, "free enterprise" will be used when referring to the U.S. economic system.

******

Yet another good reason to shut down the Dept. of Education ,make school boards local and accountable to Parents, not bureaucrats.

The problem isn't the ideas, it's the PUBLICLY financed schools

As long as schools are financed by forcibly extracted taxes, there will be stupid fights over what will get taught.

This is a never ending battle. Christians versus atheists. Creationists versus Darwinists. Jeffersonians versus Hamiltonians. States Rights versus Abolitionists. It goes on and on.

Ron Paul is right: freedom brings us together, whereas government power tears us apart. Eliminate tax funding of schools and the fighting ends because there will be no spoils to fight over.

I agree with the 1st one, but

I agree with the 1st one, but lets keep religion out of our schools. None of this creationist or earth is 4000 years bullcrap, students need to be taught evolution. We need to stop religion from interfering with the classroom.

Here we go some jerk already trying to dictate what we shall

have or not have in schools.

You just don't get it, do you?
Do you think that you have the right to dictate to every other person in this country about what they should have in their school.

Have you heard about a word called freedom.
Not freedom just to be an atheist but freedom for everyone. Not freedom from every spiritual belief and full of atheistic and secular teachings.
But freedom for everyone.
Why don't we just follow the constitution. No law for and no law against!

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, ...

Kudos on savaging the newbies!

Gotta whip all newcomers till they bleed. That's the way to grow the movement!

I agree with your arguments but I think the "jerk" reference detracts from their effectiveness. Just try to imagine Dr. Paul posting here and trying to persuade by calling someone a jerk. Wouldn't happen.

Evolution is a religion

Whether you like it or not, it is. It requires faith to believe in it like it requires faith to believe in creation. There is no real proof of either one, only evidence. So, why should I be subjected to your religion?

The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment...Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are His delight. Prov 12:19,22

I agree that it requires faith to believe in evolution.

Science should not be about belief.
Belief should not be the objective of science.
Good science requires humility about our ability to know.
We will never achieve a full understanding.
Science history: the record of discarded theories.
Major portions of what we "know" today will likely be added to the rubble, so how is belief justified?

It would be helpful if all science were treated as theory rather than fact, interpretations of observation, evidence, and data rather than proofs. Good science is about constantly developing and testing theories, constantly trying to understand while realizing the immensity of the unknown and our infinitesimal ability to grasp it.

This is great on so many levels.

...

I can live with these.

A person will go far to find an example of free enterprises these days..If your not connected, you are disconnected from the business world..Most of the business today trickle down from the corp. powers that be..They control who gets the business..In more ways than one..

Well they are right on the

Well they are right on the first too.
