Would you support me? I'd have to start in the next month or so.
I'd need to be sponsored as I have a wife and four kids to feed. (me and my family's living expenses are minimal)
I'd need help in generating press.
I'd need help along the way, maybe if someone could help draw the most effective map in terms of logistics, press, and events.
It might give us an early start in the 2012 season generating news and interest in our ideas of Peace, Freedom and Prosperity.
I'm a former paratrooper and Gulf War Vet if that helps.
With the right help, in a slow political summer season it might get a little attention, keep people thinking.
I love this country, if we could find the courage to stand up it might give all freedom loving people through out the world the courage to do the same.
If the thread dies quickly I'll just keep spinning my gears trying to think of other ways to spread the word, I was a candidate against a neocon in 2000 , I received 30% of the vote. It was a lot of work but listening to RP's advice, I think he's correct, we should be working the media as an effective way to change peoples hearts and minds.

But think of what you asking of Dr. Paul. He is old, and although he is in good health, the Presidency ages all men prematurely.
He has been fighting for America, all his life.

I wouldn't have to raise much, about $700 a week (which is what I make currently working construction) to keep family under roof and fed, I could do it through direct donations and or t shirt sales at my site. My concern
Is that you would be setting yourself and the rest of the movement up for a slew of crazy jokes/attacks. The MSM would jump on the story all right, but just so they can demonstrate how crazy Ron Paul supporters are.
I can take it, we're not crazy...
We want peace and freedom, what's crazy about that? We want to follow the Constitution and the rule of law, it's frustrating yes, but crazy? I know where you're at, but we just have to remember that we stand for peace, freedom, liberty and compassion, we always have to remember that.

Would it be possible for you to act locally on a budget you already possess?
You could walk around your town, county, or state for the cause of a local politician concerned about liberty.
If you want national media attention, maybe you could come up with a stunt on par with a silver balloon possibly carrying a stow away child.

I'm sorry to to say that, but you would get media attention. If you seem like a freak, it will hurt us in the public eye. Just something to keep in mind. So if you do it, be clean cut and "normal" acting. And if you're a Truther, forget it!

It might help..I'd say I'm a pretty regular guy, been married for 18 years, have four beautiful children, owned my own business until the rain drought in 07, 08 forced me out, (incidently I spent what little nest egg I had on my campaign) it could've saved me through the drought, wa wa, I know. I believe our foriegn policy is responsible for the events of September 11th where terrorists hi-jacked aircraft and flew them into buildings. Depending on how long it will take:
If you start on the Atlantic coast in the summer and stay in the Northern states the heat wouldn't be too bad.
Then angle down toward the South as you go West to catch the warmer temperatures. Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California would be great in the late fall.

Consider that those on the Oregon Trail averaged 8-12 miles
a day, that may be stretching it. Especially when you think of stops you may want to make along the way.
Get some input from those that walked to the Rally For The Republic. They held town hall meetings along the way, and had others join them for segments of the walk.

It'd be too expensive to bring them along. I hadn't figured that 30 to fourty miles a day would be too much. In the army we used to do that, but not sustained, I still believe (maybe foolishly) that I'd be able to do 20 miles a day 6 days a week on average.

something to capture peoples attention and keep them interested. I'm not an ad man but maybe something like "I'll keep walking until Ron Paul announces his candidacy". Last night I watched "The Century of Self", a documentary on Edward Bernays and Sigmund Freud and their impact on American business/politics. They were able to use media to control the masses by making the consumer emotionally connect with the product, make them feel like they need it to obtain a sort of happiness.
The Libertarian movement has truth on its side, yet we are not being the best salesmen in regards to the theories of Bernays and Freud, we often use reason to sell. We use facts, history, or examples of why our ideas are the most sensible. Have you ever seen a car advertisement listing details on why your car will last a long time? Factual details about a car in an advertisement are slim to none, the advertisements sell a feeling.
Is there a way to do so with your walk? I bet there is but we need one smart dude to pull off an intelligent and effective media stunt. If we want to win in 2012, we need to go into offensive mode, establish a series of media charades, and have Ron Paul establish himself as the emotional outlet of happiness for the people.

I would support you and even try to run with you for awhile through my area,I really need to stress that if you start on that end you will get to my end in the dead of summer and it may kill you,I am serious!
You may want to start at the pacific side and go back this will work better for the weather all the way across.
I have done this twice by bike,and have learned that what I say is true,and yes now is when to start from this end,The weather here is perfect and as you go across it will warm before you get there.

I live here, just a few miles from Nags Head so it would seem the natural choice to start from.. I've lived in the desert before so I know full well it can kill the unprepared, I haven't thought it out that far but I guess I would walk in the night and seek shelter in the day. I wouldn't need much, a back pack, a few change of clothes, a small one man tent and a sleeping bag, MREs and of course water, water, water. It's a cause worth risking life for, but ya, don't want to die..the heat of the desert would surely be add to the drama.

Taking your suggestion seriously
It's all frivolity until I can determine if it's doable financially. I did a little studying, I think twenty miles a day is realistic. One thing to consider is that RP may go ahead an announce before I even get to the desert, I guess at that point I'd have to determine the benefits of continuing onward anyways.
