Idahoans may soon be able to use silver to pay taxes

If Rep. Phil Hart, R-Athol, has his way, Idahoans could soon be able to pay their taxes with silver medallions produced in the state of Idaho.

Hart said the bill serves several purposes, including creating jobs in Idaho, as well as giving citizens in the state a way to store wealth in what he believes is a more stable form of currency. Hart said that though the U.S. Constitution dictates that the government should use nothing but gold or silver for public currency, the federal government has essentially left that provision “in the rear view mirror.” The bill would give the state treasurer the ability to work with silver processing companies to develop a state medallion that the state would then be forced to accept as payment for taxes....

Worst advice I've heard yet.

Let the Treasury discharge the tax for free in compliance with HJR 192 and keep your gold and silver for purchasing goods and services in your community.

Pay Gov Legal Tender; Use Silver Among Your Trusted Community

Over the centuries, yield to paying Gov legal tender that they edict. You will get by. Use silver or other things of value among your trusted community. Simple thought and actions will stead you well all your days with us.

Paying taxes with silver?

Better to keep the silver, and pay your taxes with your worthless dollars.

I agree.

I like the real money bill drawn up by Ed Viera a bit more.

However, we don't need that anyway. All we need is a declaration by the States that nothing except Gold and Silver coin shall be considered tender in payment of debt in those States. That will pretty much get the job done.

While I prefer competing currencies, we need a Constitutional amendment for that.

Talk of this in SC House

Apparently state legislators are looking for ways to stabilize budgets. However, logistics become difficult, as in the first commenter to the article's point about valuation. What do you peg to? So the road always leads back to the Fed. The dollar was a certain quantity of silver. Are state legislatures thinking this a good idea again? Maybe this is the landslide that will take out the Fed. Or the beginning of U.S. dissolution, where the 50 states have 200 currencies? Wherever we're headed, there's no getting off this train. Hooray for states that wake up and preserve their wealth.

Good Luck !

Here's hoping the Bill passes.

beesting

Phil Hart...good Ron Paul guy!

Nice fellow. Wrote a pretty long book on constitutional income and asks, "Do we have any?"

Unfortunately, Rep Hart is the exception instead of the rule in Idaho.

Should have guessed there

Should have guessed there just might be a connection ;)
