Wake up people. We will keep losing jobs here as long as we buy products from over there!

I bought California oranges and dates in Australia today.

I also get dried beans and hot sauce from the US too.

You do know the wheels on the bus go "round and round", right?

Get a grip.

With the exception of perhaps Peanut Butter from China, it seems most if not all of these items either come from the U.S. or from countries that are historically known to have the best varieties of the particular food in question.

They have the best varieties because of their climate, soil, and farming practices they have developed over the centuries, along with selecting the best varieties for future planting.

These foods were not "outsourced" to these countries, they ALWAYS were grown there.

While we probably can grow anything we need here with a few exceptions, are you trying to prevent me or anyone else from being able to trade and obtain the best coffee, tea, spices, etc.?

Seriously.

I should be able to buy whatever food I want from whomever I want.

I do like to grow my own produce mostly, but I'll be damned if anyone stops me from drinking Caribbean coffee, or using spices from the middle or far east.

And if we stop buying stuff from other countries, how will they be able to afford OUR junk that we make?

You are living in a Mercantile dream world. It is that very thought that has allowed corporations to persist, and fascism to rise, and communism to gain a foothold in response.

Mercantilism failed hundreds of years ago. Get over it already and learn to embrace laissez-faire - the only system geared towards liberty.

Good point

Extreme protectionism is akin to Washington state saying "We're going to grow oranges in eastern Washington instead of importing from Florida" and Florida saying "We're going to grow apples in Miami".

Good luck with that.
