World overpopulation prognoses may be wrong
Recent global statistics indicate that nativity has decreased, not only in the wealthiest countries, but also in several Third World countries. The average number of children per woman (the fertility rate) required to keep a population level is 2.1. In the world's advanced countries, the fertility rate in the 1950s was roughly 2.8. Today it's down to 1.6. In the Third World commonly believed to be "exploding", overall fertility rates have dropped from 6.0 in the 1960s to 3.0 today - and are still falling. With present nativity figures, the world population will stabilize around 2050 on about 8 -10 billion according to demography experts (for more see A brief review of 1999 UN report ).
But there are great uncertainities here because the nativity figures have been steadily decreasing.

The entire
population of the Earth could each be granted a quarter acre in Australia, and there would still be about 1/8 of that continent left over. And the rest of the entire world would be deserted. There is no over-population of Earth. It's a myth.
My guestimate is that the Earth, with current food tech, could easily maintain 30 billion.
Prosperous societies produce more kids as well, hence the current downtrend.
For an informed citizenry, individuals must discard the television set in favor of the acquisition of information via either books and/or the internet. An uneducated populous will remain in ignorance and thus continue to suffer the sharp ax of tyranny.

You can put whatever statistics and numbers on it you want, but i'll only believe you when i finally get a good parking spot.
You'll have to wait until 2051
then we'll have caught up building parking spaces for 10 billion people.
