Anyone Had their House/Fire Insurance Cancelled Lately?

Hi All,
I cannot find a post that was on here maybe oh, a month or two ago? Someone was having trouble retaining their home insurance because the insurance company would cancel if they didn't get a new roof. We asked for a reduction in our premium by raising our deductible (in other words taking on more liability) and instead of making an amendment to our policy, the agent wrote a new policy which required an inspection. Voila...we need a new roof. "Oh, can't afford a new roof, you are cancelled."

I am finding any time you try to reduce a payment, properly/legitimately, it ends up slamming down on your head and costing you more. With upside down mortgages, mortgagees are little more than glorified renters who must bow to the whim and the needs of the lender while paying "rent," taxes and being responsible for all repairs. Any ideas on this? Did anyone else have this happen to them or hear of it happening to them? Thanks.

Thanks for the Ideas and Tips

Today I begin looking for a new insurance company and I hope I get lucky quickly. There is entirely too much stress going on right now. I saw a post on www.americancrisis.us about anger and channeling anger with others, peacefully, instead of doing rash things or getting depressed. This guy is in South Africa and wow, they have reasons to be mighty upset as well. Any other ideas, bring them on. One can go insurance poor, while, well, we know all about the insurance companies. They don't want to take a policy which might involve risk.

I had this exact same issue

You story and mine are nearly identical. I was going to go for a $2,500.00 deductable and the insurance company almost cried. They seemed worried that I wouldn't be able to pay the deductable. Anyone it turns out that they did me a favor and I found insurance that was much cheaper. I don't know if you have it in your area or not, but I got a policy from AAA.
