Rand Paul's strong pro-coal message resonates

Rand Paul will have to do a lot of this to counter his opponent's claims. Unfortunately, some Kentuckians really do believe he's anti-coal.

Here's the NEWER VERSION of the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrXsuhXtuH4

I gey my electricity from coal

Wake up boys and girls coal is a great option for most of the U.S. Our hugh coal burning electrical generating facility has a long rail spur with car after train car of coal entering this plant. And there is very little emissions from burning these vast amounts of coal.

Fact is coal is our best energy source, unless you want to build nuclear and I would rather burn the coal.

It won't let me link over to

It won't let me link over to the video but there's a lot of good reasons to be anti coal. Although Rand's position on this will in no way stop my financial support, Coal needs to go or else be cleaned up several orders of magnitude.

Some quick facts: Kentucky generates 92% of it's electricity from coal and pays the 3rd lowest rates in the country. Kentucky operates 56 coal-fired power plants in 21 stations totaling 16,510 megawatts (MW)

According to source watch a typical plant produces the following-- http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Environmental_imp...

3.7 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), an amount equivalent to chopping down 161 million trees. CO2 pollution is the principal human cause of global warming and climate change.

10,000 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2), which causes acid rain and forms small airborne particles that can cause lung damage, heart disease, and other illnesses.

10,200 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx), equivalent to half a million late-model cars. NOx leads to formation of smog, which inflames lung tissue and increases susceptibility to respiratory illness.

500 tons of small airborne particles, which can cause bronchitis, reductions in lung function, increased hospital and emergency room admissions, and premature death.[11]

220 tons of hydrocarbons, which contribute to smog formation.

720 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), which causes headaches and places additional stress on people with heart disease.

170 pounds of mercury. 1/70th of a teaspoon of mercury deposited in a 25-acre lake can make the fish unsafe to eat. Mercury also causes learning disabilities, brain damage, and neurological disorders.[12]

225 pounds of arsenic, which leads to cancer in 1 out of 100 people who drink water containing 50 parts per billion.

114 pounds of lead, 4 pounds of cadmium, and other toxic heavy metals. These toxic metals can accumulate in human and animal tissue and cause serious health problems, including mental retardation, developmental disorders, and damage to the nervous system.[13]

Well said!

Burning coal to generate electricity should be a last resort. As the stats show, it is an environmental disaster. Why strip mine your state and poison the very air you breathe so you can turn on the AC in August?

h-daddy

"needs to go..?"

by what, the iron fist of government? last time i checked we're still in a recession/depression. assume we even get out of this in 10 years time without a revolution.. kinda stupid to be talking about global warming. if you're a billionaire and you're willing to invest to look for alternative energy on your own, then it's a different story. impractical suggestion is as bad and useless as a wrong suggestion, and often even more distracting away from the real issues.

Very nice!!

I particularly like how he worked into the interview at the end how AIG's lobbyist is throwing fundraisers for Grayson.

i was hip hip hooray for coal

i was hip hip hooray for coal until longwall coal mining ruined 200 acres of farmland. Slips, loss of a pond and loss of fresh spring water. I used to call people tree huggers if they were against coal. Now reality smacks me in the face.

The coal company ruined private property without due compensation. The DEP and the politicians are IN BED with the coal companies. If this were Europe, the coal companies would have to backfill with coal waste so as to prevent slips and severe land settlement. I don't know if they could have saved all the water no matter what. It is devastating.

Make gas and energy out of WEEDS!!! There's an endless supply.

Thanks, it made my day :)
