LOL!

They gave Dr. Paul $500 to oppose his own bill!

Idiots!

I'm talking about news anchors, on-air "talent" and the other pretty faces in the news.

Idiots!

This guy clearly hasn't got a logical brain. This website only shows correlation, not cause and effect, based on this discussion. They imply that we will be able to tell who has been bought by their supporters.

This is the same problem as Ron Paul had when he was supported by white supremacists. It's backwards.

Of course people who vote certain ways will be supported by those who like the way they vote! Duh.

Great tool, bad analysis.

It's like the news anchors in California who are continually surprised by the variety of descriptions viewers use to describe an earthquake: length and strength of shaking, etc. It never occurs to them that some people were further away or higher up in a building. They aren't very smart.

Not sure how to respond

Your point maybe entirely valid, but think that this is the first quantitative analysis I have seen yet that directly links spending for special interests which I think benefits Dr. Paul's position as it clearly demonstrates the end result. Correlation, cause and effect are irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that it is absolutely obvious that entities who benefit from certain investments (who clearly have more money to invest) typically win. In this case, the masses will be exposed to this obvious advantage gained by the people with the most money and the transparency of seeing what special interest money buys, and hopefully be able to help the average person discern what is really going on with respect to a particular issue.

You Are Correct, mostly

What concerns me is that the solution that will be proposed by incumbents is that they try and reverse the recent court decision and put a limit on what corporations or groups can donate.

In other words, they'll blame the lobbyists (us). We have a right to lobby and donate to candidates, and there is no one we can trust to control who can exercise this right and how, especially incumbents.

I have no criticism of the website and the data, only the dim-witted superficial news people who can't see the obvious flaw in their reasoning. Cause and effect is HUGELY different than correlation: government likes to establish a correlation and ban it.

are you sure?

when looking at my reps page it shows the date the money came in and the date the vote was taken. More often than not money came in the day before a vote. you can look at the sources with primary documents often explaing why a particular interest is giveing out money. I say there is enough evidence there to see cause and effect. The site is still a little confusing, you just have to dig deeper to see some pretty significant data. This is my new favorite site.

Great website,

thanks for posting.

This is a great story and a great hope for the country.
Bring on more of this kind of transparency!

Yes, he does.

I just hope he doesn't turn out to be the Glenn Beck of NBC.

This is truly an awesome tool

This is truly an awesome tool to use when deciding who to vote for. I will use it before casting my vote in future elections that is for sure.
