In a party-line vote last week, 10 Republicans on the State Board of Education tentatively approved new standards for the social studies curriculum in Texas public schools.

In their great wisdom, the members of the GOP majority chose to include conservative political activist Phyllis Schlafly among a list of nearly 300 historically significant personages. They excluded Thomas Jefferson as an influential force in American history.

Excerpts from the Phyllis Schlafly report

For years, liberals have imposed their revisionist history on our nation's public school students, expunging important facts and historic figures while loading the textbooks with liberal propaganda, distortions and cliches.

The unelected education "experts" proposed their history revisions such as eliminating Independence Day, Christopher Columbus, Thomas Edison, Daniel Boone and Neil Armstrong, and replacing Christmas with Diwali.

Schoolchildren will no longer be misled into believing that capitalism and the free market are dirty words and that America has an unjust economic system. Instead, they will learn how the free-enterprise system gave our nation and the world so much that is good for so many people.

Liberals don't like the concept of American Exceptionalism. The liberals want to teach what's wrong with America (masquerading under the code word "social justice") instead of what's right and successful. The SBOE voted to include describing how American Exceptionalism is based on values that are unique and different from those of other nations.

But all else is irrelevant if fraudulent banking is ignorned.

And Thomas Jefferson was seriously after central banking. Therefore, he trumps many "influential" people lost in politics while the banks rob and control their countries and the world.

The new standards are great

in that they promote study of Adam Smith, Milton Friedman, and Friedrich Hayek in addition to the standard John Maynard Keynes, whose economic theories have been wrecking governments across the globe.

But they really erred when they removed Jefferson.

Just because Jefferson was a "Democrat" does not mean he was a leftist statist like Obama.

JFK was more conservative than BUSH

Wonder if they will remove him from the books for belong to the wrong party ?

Jefferson and JFK were hero's to me, even though I dislike the philosophy of socialist liberal leftists who dominate the democratic party.

Yes, Political Parties are Irrelevant

What matters is principles.

State Board of Education chair criticizes Jefferson stories

State Board of Education Chairwoman Gail Lowe on Friday criticized some media outlets for reports indicating that Thomas Jefferson was dropped from the social studies curriculum standards tentatively approved by the State Board of Education last week. Lowe and other Republicans on the board - including the seven-member bloc of social conservatives - did vote to remove Jefferson from a world history standard that requires students to study great political thinkers such as John Locke and Thomas Hobbes.

...

Good idea.

This is what happens when you

This is what happens when you let the government decide what to teach your children. The republican members of the state board of education in Texas are religious zealots, it's a shame that a somewhat-liberty minded state elected this people.

I think it's an outrage!

The Declaration of Independence is effectively what began this country!

Not influential?
