"I think The Republicans have a level of energy but inside that energy they have their own problem and fissures. They're basically at the behest of a fringe group that's taken control of their own party and their own leaders are scared of it."

Katie couric is the worst
Katie couric is the worst interviewer of all time.
Of all the questions she could possibly have asked him about anything that matters, she came up with "so have you, kind of, taken another look at, sort of, the way you communicate, at all?"
i am not impressed
In some part he is correct.
The Democrats and the mainstream of the Republican Party (the neocons) all are advocates for big government. They may want government to control a different part of your life, but essentially they are all believers in the superiority and efficacy of government; they think government is the solution, not the problem.
It is the fringe who are advocating small government, and this is not yet mainstream. It will take a major economic breakdown before the federal government will fall and we are not there yet. In the interim, it will be the gullible majority of voters who swing between the Democrats and the Republicans depending on which group is more hated at the time of each election. For the most part, people who vote do so because they are believers in government also; it is just like another religion.
