Ethics Panel Ruling: Trey Grayson Can Oversee Own Senate Race

By ROGER ALFORD - Associated Press Writer FRANKFORT, Ky.

-- Secretary of State Trey Grayson can oversee the U.S. Senate race in Kentucky without any apparent conflict of interest, a government ethics panel ruled Friday.

Grayson, who is Kentucky's chief elections official, is running as a Republican for the Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Jim Bunning. One of his GOP rivals, Bowling Green physician Rand Paul, questioned whether Grayson should recuse from oversight of the race.

"There's nothing on the face of it that requires abstention," said John Steffen, head of the Executive Branch Ethics Commission.

The unanimous opinion of the commission held that it is "highly unlikely" that a secretary of state in Kentucky could influence the results of a statewide election "without having the universal cooperation of election officials across the state."

I am less concerned about May than I am November.

I think Rand will win the GOP nomination. But come November there might be trouble in the general election. I wouldn't put it past these guys preferring to elect a Democratic tool than a Republican that isn't in their inner circle. They did this to Ron a couple election cycles ago in Texas. The local GOP endorsed the Democrat that Ron was running against. They only want players who will keep their crap game going.

In their desperation to keep

In their desperation to keep Rand Paul out of a power- holding office, these people are abusing the most fundamental of principles regarding contest rules of any kind. Who are these people on an "ethics" board that cannot uphold a simple rule regarding "conflict of interest"...even when it is requested by a candidate? Who are these people????

A football analogy seems appropriate

What would you think of the league owners, if they made a ruling that the hometown quarterback could also serve as chief referee simultaneously, while they told the other quarterback to just accept their decision, because they felt that their hometown favorite wouldn't likely use his advantage too often?

For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it. - Patrick Henry

If it's not a problem why not let Rand Paul oversee election?

Instead? To prove that it has no bearing, why not ask Grayson to let his opponent Rand Paul oversee the election?

What will he say?

Pathetic

Very pathetic.

uh-oh

Kentucky and Texas have exactly the same VVPR and audit requirements.

This is not good.

Yep. SOS's only ensure the finest chain of custody for voters.

That's all they do is make sure no matter what at all costs without any personal regard for themselves to ensure that we the people's votes are fair and just.

Lawsuit . . .

anyone?

Now, do NOT be surprised in November...

When Rand Paul loses by a huge margin, ok? Because, he will not be elected! Trey Grayson has been "chosen/appointed" already, ok? You got that? This corporate-owned and run shell of a government is not able to be "fixed" by "The People." Ya dig? This is a total mismatch of effort! Trying to infiltrate this false-fictional-illegal shell is a complete waste of time! They have the winners in a sealed envelope (figuratively-speaking). You can throw your earnings into Rand Paul's pockets and feel good about it! Please do! But....DO NOT BE UPSET WHEN THEY SWEAR IN TREY GRAYSON, OK?

Fox in a Chicken Suit

This demands a political cartoon

Yeah, but

Trey Grayson talks to Dick Cheney. Surely, he's advising him not to do anything unethical just to keep the regime's lies and bumbling from being highlighted.

Now that is one helluva oxymoron. Let me guess they are a non partisan group, right?

Executive Branch Ethics Commission? All Lawyers

Here is their web page.

Web site grade: F

  • No ethics violations found.
  • Lawyers only.
  • No mention of any work done. What are they doing?
  • AP Reports they ruled to allow Sec of State, KY to approve his own election to US Senate.

Searched for evidence of their relentless pursuit of ethics violations. Must be hard these days to find, let alone pursue and prosecute violations. No mention of any hard driving, investigator credentials. No ethics accomplishments noted. The web page mentions they got appointed, little else. After a few minutes, searching outside the gov pages, only found dismissals.

Go Rand Paul!

SofSes manage their own elections all the time.

Elected Secretaries of State supervise their own reelections all the time. SOMEbody's got to run the department that runs the elections. At least this way the people get to vote on the official in question {and hope the votes are counted fairly accurately}, rather than having the slot filled by appointment.

The only thing different here is that he's running for Senate instead of another term as Secretary of State.

It's a fine piece of mud to sling for the campaign. But it cuts no ice in court - or on "ethics panels".

However, raising the issue may help put more eyeballs to work checking the election process than is typical in a primary.

"Obama’s Economists: ‘Stimulus’ Has Cost $278,000 per Job."

That means: For each job "created or saved" about five were destroyed.

It may cut no ice in court,

It also does not build integrity.
The Rand Paul campaign asked Trey to recuse himself. It would have been the honorable thing to do in this instance.

This just confirms my opinion of Trey Grayson.

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

Yeah, it's highly unlikely

Yeah, it's highly unlikely that a politician would do something dishonest, right?

If he were an honorable man

instead of a self-interested man, he'd have recused himself.

Judges do this all the time.

Only if ...

Don't worry...

There will be measures in place to ensure the integrity of the voting results. This is important to know so we can focus on winning this.

Still, their decision is unfortunate.

Yeah there will be one huge measure in place......

Diebold's Electronic Voting Machines. All the integrity Grayson's people will ever need.

There are also things we need

There are also things we need to be aware of, which are in effect in Kentucky(and every other state), which violate the integrity of the voting process

How unethical

the fix IS in, isn't it.

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

But, if the election officials

are subordinate to him, that's more influential than just cooperative.
