Vital Info to study: Political Ponerology and Psychopaths

spouse and I have recently become aware that one of our children has fallen prey (as have we, by association) to a psychopath.

The damage has been, so far, not more than emotional and spiritual, but that has been enough.

This person (the psychopath) is religious and uses religion as part of *his/her* methods.

We (our child's father and mother) have been naive. We HAVE believed that all people are good.
We have 'fallen' for this person. Fortunately, our child has seen the danger and is moving away from it.

But this has opened my eyes to something of which I had never before been aware.

This person is intelligent. This person is charming. This person looks VERY good. This person is willing to 'serve' as part of his/her (yes, I don't identify by gender on here) overall 'program'--

can look VERY self-sacrificing, but is without conscience. As a result of this very well-developed skill, many people with consciences (including family members of the psychopath) are led along . . .

manipulated into doing whatever the psychopath wants.

When we first realized it, we shuddered.

Yes, it feels evil.

Yet, this evil person wears an almost perpetual smile.

I'm sorry; I have to believe this. I might have disagreed before the last few years, but now I have seen it for myself.

Yes, many of *us* DO assume *we* all have consciences--

those of *us* who do fall prey to this even more easily at times--

arming ourselves against this is a must--

and there ARE people with limited intelligence or brain damage who suffer from conscience impairment who do not become 'successful'; they can cause a lot of pain to those who love them, but they seldom are able to wield truly destructive power.

As for how God views this--

I don't know. He will judge.

But evil exists.

We have to realize that it is quite easy to turn the average decent human into what many consider to be evil.

Give him a cause, some money, some brotherhood, and some babes and he'll kill for you.

Examples: military, gangs, executives, politicians, etc.

I will have to explore this more before commenting...really interesting and it fits.

When you understand the true nature of psychopathic influence, that it is conscienceless, emotionless, selfish, cold and calculating, and devoid of any moral or ethical standards, you are horrified, but at the same time everything suddenly begins to makes sense. Our society is ever more soulless because the people who lead it and who set the example are soulless - they literally have no conscience.
Psychopaths learn to recognize each other in a crowd as early as childhood, and they develop an awareness of the existence of other individuals similar to themselves. They also become conscious of being of a different world from the majority of other people surrounding them. They view us from a certain distance.

Think about the ramifications of this statement: Psychopaths are, to some extent, self-aware as a group even in childhood! Recognizing their fundamental difference from the rest of humanity, their allegiance would be to others of their kind, that is, to other psychopaths.

Their own twisted sense of honor compels them to cheat and revile non-psychopaths and their values. In contradiction to the ideals of normal people, psychopaths feel breaking promises and agreements is normal behavior.

She Tolls For We.

I had intended to resurrect this classic on perspective from the DP archives myself yesterday. The day before I was reminded of this lesson from our own history when I posted a comment on the Humans: Good vs. Evil thread.

Recognizing names and current events is never as important as discerning profiles and techniques because wisdom is learning how to avoid being easily manipulated and deceived.
