Rand Paul asked if he will always support Israel

To paraphrase his reply:

I'm elected by the citizens of Kentucky to serve the Constitution, the interests, & national security of the United States

For the first time ever in my life do I see someone running for public office (other than Ron Paul & Jim Traficant) putting America and his people first and not sucking up to Israel. Please dont be fooled by the useful idiots attacking Rand Paul

We need rules

It's too simple to say the people should just do what is right. The founders knew people would vote stupidly unless there were restrictions in the Constitution.

Granted, those rules are now ignored, but at least an attempt was made to protect us from our greed and stupidity.

I don't know, maybe we should just scrap all the rules, as they never seem to last. I don't know why we keep a budget any more either, as it is no restraint.

Supporting Israel

I would submit that cutting off foreign aid to Israel is the real way to support it. Right now Israel's sovereignty is compromised because its politicians are beholden to US interests. Cutting off the gravy train would allow Israelis to govern in their own self-interest.

Now...that doesn't mean the Israeli government would necessarily make decisions in the interest of the Israeli people. But at least the US would not be involved.

Term limits and libertarianism

They seem to be in conflict, but are not. The congressional power to legislate is extremely concentrated and seniority based, and a voter who wants strong representation does not have an equal choice in the ballot box. If you can't neuter the power of seniority, you have to limit terms.

10-15 million more voters need to believe in non-interventionism (liberty) at home and abroad to change America. Minds changed on Syria. Minds changing on privacy. "Printing money" is part of the dialogue. Win minds through focus, strategy.

He is absolutely right about term limits

You work within the system as it is set up, but try to change it to a better system. Don't get out when all the bad guys stay in. Besides, the elections DON'T determine who is in Washington any more. That is decided by the shadow. It takes a huge overthrow and just the right situation for the good guys to get any place close to being elected. Let's hope he makes it.

Those Silly Zionists....

Wait a minute now, are you telling me that there are certain people in the U.S. that care more about Israel than America? This is shocking and I've never heard of such a thing. LOL!

Nice to see portions of America slowing waking up to this. America's only business should be protecting the interests of America - not Israel's.

No illusions of grandeur for

No illusions of grandeur for this man, no concern for being the most popular guy at parties or for fanfare or accolades. Just a wise man dedicated enough to his country to suspend his medical practice and give it his all. A major hurdle in a few more weeks, Rand, then it's an open vote.

Term Limits

I too question his platform on "term limits". What is his reasoning here?

Another poster already mentioned that it is the voters who decide whom they want to represent them and for how long?

The candidate can always call it quits if the job gets too overwhelming for whatever reason.

Should a candidate become complacent and vulnerable to lobbyist power after extended time, then it is the voters who should remind him of his place.

Surely age is not an eligibility prerequisite for any candidate to run for office. I would hate to see term limits mandated against Ron Paul for example. It will either be up to Ron Paul or the voters who decide when enough is enough... Not another law or regulation please????

Shuleba - I agree with you agreeing with me!

First of all term limits is one of the least of issues Rand should be spending time on.

I don't care what some have said, ultimately it IS WE THE VOTERS who control term limits.

If Americans choose to stay un-informed and vote for whoever spends the most money, then they will continue to get what they deserve.

But we are becoming better informed about issues and candidates.

Again, who among us would want Ron Paul to not be in congress today?

He promises his district basically NOTHING and yet he continues to get re-elected.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Yeah, he should focus on real

Yeah, he should focus on real election problems like ballot access laws, gerrymandering and the such...term limits won't do crap.

Never Forget the USS Liberty

Remember always which foreign state attacked the USS Liberty in open waters twice killing 34 sailors and wounding 171 saying they made a mistake. Also never forget that a de-moc-rat president Johnson recalled Navy aircraft launched to help the Liberty so as not to embarrass his Israeli political backers. He was a traitor to America and was never brought to justice.

I think we've had enough of Israel for a lifetime.

Glad people are continually reminded of this....

As far as Israel goes....

A little history about the land of milk and honey:

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told the American Israel Public Affairs Council on Monday that "Jerusalem is not a settlement." He continued that the historical connection between the Jewish people and the land of Israel cannot be denied. He added that neither could the historical connection between the Jewish people and Jerusalem. He insisted, "The Jewish people were building Jerusalem 3,000 years ago and the Jewish people are building Jerusalem today." He said, "Jerusalem is not a settlement. It is our capital." He told his applauding audience of 7500 that he was simply following the policies of all Israeli governments since the 1967 conquest of Jerusalem in the Six Day War.

Netanyahu mixed together Romantic-nationalist cliches with a series of historically false assertions. But even more important was everything he left out of the history, and his citation of his warped and inaccurate history instead of considering laws, rights or common human decency toward others not of his ethnic group.

So here are the reasons that Netanyahu is profoundly wrong, and East Jerusalem does not belong to him.

1. In international law, East Jerusalem is occupied territory, as are the parts of the West Bank that Israel unilaterally annexed to its district of Jerusalem. The Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and the Hague Regulations of 1907 forbid occupying powers to alter the lifeways of civilians who are occupied, and forbid the settling of people from the occupiers' country in the occupied territory. Israel's expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in East Jerusalem, its usurpation of Palestinian property there, and its settling of Israelis on Palestinian land are all gross violations of international law. Israeli claims that they are not occupying Palestinians because the Palestinians have no state are cruel and tautological. Israeli claims that they are building on empty territory are laughable. My back yard is empty, but that does not give Netanyahu the right to put up an apartment complex on it.

"Qui audet adipiscitur"

Good enough answer on Israel BUT...

I don't agree with him on term limits.

EVERY ELECTED person in government has term limits DECIDED ON by the VOTERS.

If there were term limits then we would not even know the name Ron Paul today.

Let the people decide who stays and who goes as dictated by our Constitution.

WHAT SHOULD be limited is this corrupt Two-Party system in place and alternate party candidates should be given a level playing field in which to compete.

OUT with the RNC and DNC who RECEIVE federal tax-payer dollars to operate.

THAT IS IMMORAL and UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

ALSO---DO AWAY WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE COMMISSION which is made up of...REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC PARTY OFFICIALS.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

So wrong...

"EVERY ELECTED person in government has term limits DECIDED ON by the VOTERS."

No they dont! They become entrenched because the lobbyists have power to entrench them because there are no term limits. Money is re-election power. With term-limits, the lobbyists have much less influence.

Holey Smokes! What is wrong with you people....?

Ron Paul is a very unique exception to this rule, but definitely not the rule. Maybe, it's because he can (and is willing to) return money to the Treasury each year...

"Qui audet adipiscitur"

Overhaul campaign funding Practices

The focus on who brings in the most money for Campaign support sets up corruption opportunities from the getgo? To restrict the amount of $$ spent on campaigns thereby making it an equal playing field seems reasonable to me. Perhaps equality in accessing ballots, debates, media coverage should be the focus rather than set term limits after the fact.

It's a stupid question

Rand is running for the US senate, some people ask his policy of Israel???

This question should be asked for somebody who is running Israel office, not the US office.

The nation of Israel is not God's chosen people. They rejected Jesus Christ, so they are sons of perdition. Wake up, dispensationalists!

“History has never been dominated by majorities, but only by dedicated minorities who stand unconditionally on their faith.” --R.J. Rushdoony

I thought Rand was not blunt enough.

....and it bothers me. I know, I know, when one is running for office, one must be discreet. But he came off to me still saying we would support Israel to defend itself, and that Israel is a ally and a supposedly democratic one at that.Sounds like soft pedaling to me, which leads to the possibility of compromise later.

What I wish Rand would have said, in plain terms, that what happens to Israel or any other country is not the US concern--Because we are not the world's recess monitor.

Conscience does not exist if not exercised

"No matter how cynical you get, it's impossible to keep up!
---Lily Tomlin

Just to contrast that

Just to contrast that thought, I sensed that Rand was reiterating a non-intervention foreign policy. In unsaid words to an unasked question would he also support all countries the right to defend themselves? I cannot get over how much Israel's welfare, above all others, is so tantamount in American politics.

Israel is controlled by

Israel is controlled by Ashkenazis who have no ethnic lineage to Israel whatsoever and they are not Semitic, which is a race around that area including Somalia. Also, that Iran guy is a Sephardic Jew. Did you know?

what the

beep is this Israel religion all about? Are those people braindead? I don't know if humanity can be saved with this abundance of ignorance. Then there was the guy saying "you won't abolish anything in the next 15 years". Where has this guy been, where have all of these people been? The U.S. is bancrupt, there is no need to abolish something, the market will abolish this crap sooner or later.

rand

great answer(s)!

i liked the israel answer and the sunsetting of regulations answer. good stuff.

Glad to say...

I found a home for 2 Rand Paul yard signs today down in Louisville. I was down there visiting family from Bloomington. The fallacy in this sort of Israel all-or-nothing support thing...is mind numbing. Christians (I'm one) need to wake up and stop drinking this kool-aid. I suppose it all stems from making a very grand interpretation of this verse:

“I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3)

From a Christian perspective, how do you think Jesus would answer a loaded question like that about Israel. He didn't exactly support the ruling class in Israel, did he? Well, let's not get into this...

Very glad he made the point about the hypocrisy of us funding, even more so, Israel's enemies.

Thanks for sharing. I

Thanks for sharing. I particularly enjoyed his answer to the "party system" guy. If you're looking for someone to be a system guy then I'm not your man.or similar wording to that effect. Well done!

America First

America shouldn't put anybody else's national security before its own. I also think that we should eliminate all foreign aid. This would start to get rid of the US national debt.
