You Say You Want a Revolution? Think Again

EXCEPTIONAL article on LRC today.... changing social mood is a necessity if we are to prevail! Viva la Revolucion!

"...If this union is to return to its progressive roots it will be not by the sword but by the writings of those dedicated to a philosophy of liberation, by the wide dissemination of radical thought into the op-ed pages and editorials of our newspapers, into the comments section to Internet news sites, into the mouths of the interviewed "man on the street," into the intellectuals’ monthly journals and thence most importantly, into the minds of men. It is here where even the most humble advocate of liberty can make a difference, it is the necessary first step that, should we fail to take it, will bring any hard-earned advances to naught.

Pick up your pen and write until your fingers go numb, submit an avalanche, cross you fingers, and hope for the best. That is the one and only way to pull out of this tailspin. Patience and endless repetition, above all, are needed. Keep in mind the words of Rexford Tugwell (one of the more reactionary and conservative of FDR’s "Brain Trust") that "a nation does not take a new direction overnight." (Tugwell, 105) Remember that for decades FDR and his fellows wandered in the intellectual wilderness, yet steadily chipped away at the edifice of law, using small, but friendly, publications such as The Review of Reviews and The New Republic as their base of operations.....

....Read the op-ed pages and editorials of any newspaper, glance at the comments section to any Internet news site, and listen to the interviewed "man on the street," read our intellectuals’ monthly journals and agree; modern America is too uncivilized and savage for freedom.

If you wish for a change back to liberty, forget your rifle – grab your pen."

We are out of time.

If there is a right way, it will take too long. Obama and his elfs are destroying the country at a rapid pace. The Judge agrees that once one of these "laws" get in, it is hard to undo it. If we wait until Barry is out of office we will not recognize the U.S. Our children and grandchildren will be slaves. No. There is no more time.

Only a catastrophic event

Only a catastrophic event such as the collapse of the dollar will wake up the people. Unfortunately people have to be shocked into consciousness before they will act. The "frog in a pot" analogy describes the average American today. Unless we experience a catastrophic event we will be enslaved by our government. We are already slaves to a great degree -- especially those that pay individual income taxes.

I too caution against armed insurrection until the majority of Americans feel enough pain to be willing to fight for their freedom. The State Militias are not the answer. No doubt they have all been infiltrated by government agents and are being watched at every turn. Members of the Militia will be portrayed in the news media as enemies of the people and persecuted to no end. To be successful, organized resistance will have to operate in small groups, have support of the people, and go underground.

We really do

have to win hearts and minds first.

3% taking up arms in this environment would not lead to a successful revolution. The other 97% would consist of too many people who don't understand why they are doing it and the 3% would just be an enemy.

The path is to change the majority opinion. Until a clear majority voices their discontent at the ballot box and the gov't does not abide by the results, the majority won't be convinced the gov't is full of criminals who must be removed from power by force.

Yes, innocent people will be martyred by an increasingly arrogant police state before the public opinion changes. Yes, outrageous criminal activity by the gov't will go down before the public opinion changes. Yes, we may pass a point of no return in tyranny before public opinion changes. Our only hope lies in changing public opinion before that happens because there is no other path that will be successful.

The Vote

The revolution is coming in November with our voting. IMO

TheKingIsComing

I actually think

that public perception will change more rapidly, the more government exposes it's "police state" mentality. I think we see typical neocon people starting to change their ideas already as they look in horror at what is going on. This is going to grow geometrically the more the state cracks down.

If we are THERE to offer them the explanation and the answers I think we will see a very rapid jump in understanding. What has taken 30 years to get to 5% of an informed populace.... will only take another 5 years to double or triple or quadruple, etc. .... and then we're talking about some serious hope of change!!

There is a an acceleration we can look forward to

as people's tendency to give police the benefit of the doubt gives way. Some of this is due to being surrounded by less of a culture of it, allowing people to break away from the herd mentality faster as reality becomes less ignorable.

Still, it won't be a matter of getting enough people with guns to overrun the white house. What would revolutionaries do after that? Hold elections?

Defend Liberty!

How about the pen and then the rifle!

This is what our Founding Fathers did.

Economic suffering will lead to revolution. When that eruption of violence comes there will be three factions, (1)those occupying the seats of power and their privileged friends who benefit from the plunder and control, (2)those rebels who are suffering and think the answer is more government, and (3)those rebels who want freedom.

The pen is not going to influence those in power and those benefiting from plunder and control; it may influence those suffering who otherwise would demand more government as a solution. But ultimately, freedom is only going to be regained, if ever, by meeting force with force.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

Wouldn't you want more members of group 3, Henry?

Do you not think that each of us should "believe" that we can make a difference?

I not sure if we can, but in my mind, if you don't try you'll never know. I don't expect human nature to suddenly change overnight, but the "battle" is eternal for our species.

The abolition of "slavery" took hundreds of years. Don't you think that we may have a chance, when this system collapses, to gain influence? I'm not sure yet, but you never know what will happen.

I am in favor of the pen now.

But when the time comes, likely withing the next 15 years, the sword will be the only remaining option.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

I would like to add

that I wish libertarians and anarchists here would call in to beck, hannity,o'reilly, limbaugh, and all political radio talk shows. It can make a difference. It will be small but it will definitely gain recruits,IMO. The vast majority of people do not even understand what we are talking about. We do need sound bite slogans, to repeat to everyone who will listen. Adopt the tactics of the enemy, but make them better.

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. "
Barry Goldwater

There is at least 2 million liberty believers about there. There is a scale of belief of course. If everyone of them donated a dollar a day and spoke out in defense of liberty several times a day, it could make a difference. Just think about the potential if each of us believed truly with all our "heart".

You never know unless you try. Give it your all. We just might win. No retreat, no surrender.

I just took twenty minutes thinking and then writing a response

to this and now it's gone. The spam filter came up. No links. Don't understand. This is the third time this has happened. I had a lot to say but now it is silenced and gone and I don't want to take the time since it just might be gone again. The administrators never approved the blocked spam filter posts. This is at least the third time this has happened. Hopefully this changes if people complain. Live and learn. Definitely copy your thread before taking the chance of losing it through the filter.

All of the Things This Writer Suggests are Worthless

words and protests mean nothing to those in power.

And that is why....

he is not talking about addressing those in power. He is talking about educating the MASSES.

There MUST be ENOUGH people educated in Liberty if we are to avoid the same mistakes when we rebuild.

elviejo~Thanks for posting this

I agree... this is a race for education and awareness to prevent eventual destruction! The endless repition part requires a lot of patience!

The limits of tyrants

"Find out just what the people will submit to and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."
— Frederick Douglass, civil rights activist, Aug. 4, 1857

Only our resistance limits the tyranny of our rulers. We will be oppressed TO THE DEGREE to which we consent and comply. The country is not yet ripe for revolution, but it's time to stop consenting and complying. Do what you can, and spread the word.

If only each and every American knew just how 'powerful' they

are within themselves, this would be a no brainer and we would have already accomplished the goal of restoring our government to the rule of law.

When the American people come to realize that their individual powers lie first in their willingness to learn of this political/legal gift that was now born to each of us by the sacrifices of these delegates, Articles of Freedom.

Your power lie in the inner vision that you should pay attention to as a result of study. Your power lie in the 'desire' that is stirred as a result of this 'vision' and your power lie in the 'willingness' to commit body, mind and soul, your talents, what little wealth you have to give, and your tenacious perseverance added to the whole that will see through the final outcome of this daunting endeavor.

That is what signing the pledge to Articles of Freedom require from each conscious American!

We are each now being called to true service. None of us are impotent as those who have taken control of our checks and balances have falsely manufactured it to seem, not at all, we are very, very powerful!

All the while knowing full well that none of us can 'control' the outcome of this. Its far bigger than each of us, but by our tenacious 'individual' efforts to take full responsibility for our sovereign Rights, faith in our visions, with the intention to restore our entire bicameral system to the rule of de jure law, we most certainly can now do that.

It saddens me to say that this

article speaks to the heart of truth.

Even if we could briefly grasp the reigns to stop the nation hurtling toward self-destruction, the load is too heavy for even the best team to stop.

Do we have time to educate and turn the direction? I see this as part of humanity's very slow evolution. Public support for 1776 was a brief mutation that stayed in some of us, but didn't take for most people who immediately set about finding their masters again. That will be the result of any revolution by force.

True revolution happens in hearts and minds, no where else. How do we reach those hearts and minds? That's the question best addressed by this forum, IMO. Anisha, OctoBox -- and Jake and RP whose political works are models of effective education -- and many others at the DP share their ideas and show the way with education and disengagement from the system.

Elviejo, beautiful article!

I believe this with my whole heart. The pen is mightier than the sword!

In the case of America, revolution doesn't have to be 'bloody' or violent in any way. We already had that scene but back then it was a break in consciousness with the 'divine rights of kings' that that war came to happen.

Once the Declaration of Independence was made it showed for the record 'the people' did their due diligence by petitioning the king on his myriad violations to the colonists and as a result the war was a morally 'righteous' war came as a necessity to establish our claim to individual sovereign freedom over divine rights of kings.

We now have the Articles of Freedom. It has manifested now through great sacrifices made by just a handful of 121 delegates from 48 States who took the initiative on their own dime, who met in St. Charles, Illinois to for 11 days to bring resolutions to the 14 egregious violations to our U.S.Constitution going back almost 100 years.

I encourage each and every one of you here on Daily Paul to please make the effort to visit the archives of the Continental Congress 2009 (keep in mind this was done on a shoestring budget so forgive if the technology is not up to snuff). Then spend some time reading the introduction to the Articles of Freedom so you will be familiar with the intention of this document.

I wish you all blessings and high energy as 'we the people' gradually one by one open to receive the gift that is now before you. Pay attention to the inner vision that comes to you as a result of studying this. Trust your spirit, trust your vision and know that we are all being given the time at the 11th hour of our country to come aboard and do what needs to be done.

So many heart felt donations need to come in to help with the burgeoning expenses of printing costs, gasoline expenses, and overnight costs for our delegates as they go city by city, town by town, county by county to ensure each and every elected official who has sworn an oath will be 'put on notice' by their receipt of this document that orders them to cease and desist anything they are doing that is 'unconstitutional'.

http://www.meetup.com/Articles-of-Freedom-Pledge/

American people, you are each being called to answer this beautiful gift.

Don't forget to sign the pledge once you are aware of what this is about.

Agreed.

Great article--I used the same title five days ago!

I don't consider myself much of a blogger (yet) but I did feel moved to write a short post on the same topic just five days ago--I even used the same title!

You Say You Want a Revolution

Someday, maybe I'll be as eloquent as Mr. Maloney.

Great job

I thought your article was terrific.

Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.

The first shot

fired prematurely will bring down the movement.
Not saying that violence will never be a necessity, just that education of enough people is a necessary foundation for victory.

'Do not fire until you see the whites of their eyes' is a scary proposition, but it wins battles.

Well he acts like the

Well he acts like the revolution just started. it has taken 30 years to get where we are today. Many of us writing in the wilderness during that time and never thought we would see the awakening we are seeing today especially in the last two years.

However we are on the verge of full blown tyranny and we don't have another 20-30 years to convince a majority of sheep while in the meantime we live in tyranny. BecaUse that is how long it will take if we follow his advice. So he is wrong to forget the rifle, the pen has never won freedom and we are never going to be able to compete with thier pen the media.

We have to draw the line somewhere and refuse to submit to tyranny for it is here now. PACIFISM IS WHAT GOT US TO THIS POINT. By all means continue to educate but be prepared to resist physically if necassary and stop buying the BS that pacifism has ever won freedom!

I respect your opinion but what got us to this place wasn't pacifism it was ignorance. People are waking up and like compound interest will start doubling if we are continue with our positive activism. I hope

It is not our positive

It is not our positive activism either it is the pain politicians have foisted on the people. I have seen how long it took to get here and that's the bottom line we don't have the time. Even if you educate enough sheep most of them still won't do a damn thing about it. Many are uneducatable.

And I keep hearing it even here if we can educated enough then we "can vote the bastards out" AND YOU STILL HAVE DEMOCRACY and a bunch of dumb sheep that will want to go back to what they know and want a bunch of benefits by using mob rules democracy to get it.

If you want to ensure your children's and grandchildrens future you must kill the democracy period!

If the government is force...

(as we now know) and they do not care what the American people want...Why would they bother to read any of our complaints when they don't even read the bills they pass (let alone the constitution)?
The colonist also tried the pen against sword (as you may recall) and was met with further insult....I think that is where we are really at. Many of us do not want violence but, we are trying to "reason" with a cabal that won't even open the letter...It is possible to get some results by civil disobedience. That is probably the last attempt at reining in our masters before things get out of control. Just my take and I've been involved for 35 years...

Useless

What I take from the article above is not trying to win over the minds of the government with the pen but your fellow brothers and sisters. That is why our battle has been so hard. Because the government so to speak has the biggest pen and piece of paper, The Mainstream media. Win over the hearts and minds of our brothers and sisters the we win. For we surely out number those in DC.

"I have found that being rich is not about having the most but about needing the least"

Well, said we must

win the hearts and minds of our brothers and sisters. Once they understand what it means to be truly free it will be very liberating.
