You Say You Want a Revolution? Think Again

EXCEPTIONAL article on LRC today.... changing social mood is a necessity if we are to prevail! Viva la Revolucion!

"...If this union is to return to its progressive roots it will be not by the sword but by the writings of those dedicated to a philosophy of liberation, by the wide dissemination of radical thought into the op-ed pages and editorials of our newspapers, into the comments section to Internet news sites, into the mouths of the interviewed "man on the street," into the intellectuals’ monthly journals and thence most importantly, into the minds of men. It is here where even the most humble advocate of liberty can make a difference, it is the necessary first step that, should we fail to take it, will bring any hard-earned advances to naught.

Pick up your pen and write until your fingers go numb, submit an avalanche, cross you fingers, and hope for the best. That is the one and only way to pull out of this tailspin. Patience and endless repetition, above all, are needed. Keep in mind the words of Rexford Tugwell (one of the more reactionary and conservative of FDR’s "Brain Trust") that "a nation does not take a new direction overnight." (Tugwell, 105) Remember that for decades FDR and his fellows wandered in the intellectual wilderness, yet steadily chipped away at the edifice of law, using small, but friendly, publications such as The Review of Reviews and The New Republic as their base of operations.....

....Read the op-ed pages and editorials of any newspaper, glance at the comments section to any Internet news site, and listen to the interviewed "man on the street," read our intellectuals’ monthly journals and agree; modern America is too uncivilized and savage for freedom.

If you wish for a change back to liberty, forget your rifle – grab your pen."

Insult to injury.

Millions of sheeple are out of work. They have gotten the quick lesson on government. Millions more are going to go without work or a means to survive. Educate them? They are already educated. They have nothing more to loose and are looking for the culprit (real or perceived) who brought them to this overwhelming grief. The government still does not get it. Things are going to escalate, want it or not...I shudder at the outcome.

I think it is to late in the game for this way to be taken. We do not have the time. The economy is on the edge of collapse. Once the economy goes over the edge,
the people will revolt. Especially when the truth comes out about the crimes that were comitted by those on wall street and in the government. As people lose everything they worked so hard for and have a drastic change in lifestyle, violent revolution will occur.
We are talking about Military, police, teachers, and those who would rely on Social security losing their pensions. As Celente said, when people lose everything they lose it! we have seen that recently with the man who flew his plan into the IRS building. I have heard people that I don't even know say things like buy guns and food, pretty soon it will be time to take action..
People are frustrated. Again we don't have the time the Author says we have to change our government.. If Ron Paul had been elected president I would have a different outlook. Ron himself talks about massive changes coming soon. Those changes he is talking about are not the use of pens. Now, I nor Ron Paul advocate violence. Violence will be the outcome of 80 years of communist programs trying to be put into a free market economy.

Agreed rebelsoul! People

Agreed rebelsoul!

People need to remember only 3% fought the revolutionary war. You don't need a majority of sheep you just need enough people who will take action.

History has proven the majority of sheep just sit on the sidelines to see who wins.

We are on the verge of full blown tyranny and we don't have the time it would take to educate the masses adn try and counter the media if we followed the advice of the article.

You can have all of the "Revolt" you want...

but if the MASSES aren't actually on the side of INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY.... not WAR and not WELFARE.... the liberty leaders won't have a chance to succeed.

Yes..revolt may happen. But what we get in the place of the current set of thieves will be nothing more than a new set of thieves... if the people have not been taught HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE between a "collectivist" philosophy and a "freedom" philosophy.

The Tea Party is a good start.

For the first time, people are getting really riled up about our government, and they're not looking to the Democrats OR Gop for any more guidance. If we start knocking some of these bastards off, like Reid, and Pelosi, one at a time, maybe the ripple effect will cause some integrity to surface somewhere in Washington. The best solution is to force constant turnover in Congress. Forget the notion that "your" Congressman is special. Vote these folks out EVERY election and let someone else give it a go. A big part of our current problem is that these people get too comfortable and make to many network deals for their own benefit. Keep fresh people coming and, more importantly, going. Get rid of the "Career Politician"!

I fully agree with you. It

I fully agree with you.

It will take decades but that is the best way.

This is the ONLY way to establish real change

if you ask me.

We could get Ron Paul elected president, Judge Nap as AG, and a score of liberty minded individuals in congress. BUT, unless the MASSES are willing to do what it takes to restore the Republic, (giving up all of their "goodies" and their reliance on government for EVERYTHING)... all of those good men would get nothing but heartache and criticism... and they'd be out on their ears in the following election in favor of those who promise the masses bread and circuses.

Sigh! Here we go again

Sigh! Here we go again expecting democracy to fix it self when it is the problem in the first place.

Did you actually read and follow my posts in this thread?

I am SAYING that ELECTING people is NOT the answer. Getting the masses to UNDERSTAND the ramifications of individual liberty and the responsibility that entails and actually WANTING that liberty is the answer. And that is only done through educating them... and continuously repeating the lessons.

If you don't change the social mood you are either going to have the SAME type of people elected, OR, you will have REVOLT and then full Dictatorship (because a dictator doesn't care what the masses think).

So SURE... you can run off with your 3% of the population agreeing with you..... have a Revolution of force... and then DICTATE to the other 97% how things will be (which won't work for long.. AND is the antithesis of libertarian philosophy)... or you can try to change social mood in general to a knee jerk reaction that demands FREEDOM instead of FREEBIES.

I disagree, respectfully.

There is 50% of our population that is simply not smart enough or have enough ambition to be free. they will always have their hand out and asking for help. They will never rely on themselves. Unfortunately for them there is a coming financial collapse. Nothing can change that. It is not a question if, It is only a question of when. They will then know what it is like to be free and take care of themselves because there will be no goverment to take care of them. They will become Libertariams out of necessity to survive.

Tal vez (perhaps)

I do agree that we will never have 100%, and that people, if they want to survive, will HAVE to learn to handle things on their own. And those that don't learn will simply die of starvation and violence between themselves.

In the meantime, the more people we get to UNDERSTAND liberty the better off we will be. I also have no problem with non-compliance (and the penalties that may involve). I just don't think it is time yet to "storm the battlements"... while the masses still believe that there are goodies to be had from government.
