(AP) Three years ago, the Republican establishment piled scorn on the presidential candidacy of Ron Paul.

Today, he is in a statistical tie with President Obama in 2012 polling. His son, an ophthalmologist who has never run for elective office, is well ahead of not only the GOP's handpicked candidate for Senate in Kentucky but also both Democratic contenders -- all statewide officeholders.

I just got back from the bar

I just got back from the bar and a bunch of guys were ranting back and forth about the government. Some of them were talking about armed revolution.

I am out of touch with most Americans precisely because I am not out of touch with reality.

Letter to Chris Stirewalt: I

Letter to Chris Stirewalt:

I think you owe your readers an apology for your sloppy piece of journalism. Since when is standing up for the Constitution equivalent to hating the government? What exactly do you mean when you say, "the government"?

Every soldier, police officer and elected public servant takes an oath to support and defend the Constitution. When thoughtful Americans point out that many of these people have committed perjury, this to you is hating the government? When elected public servants break the law, they are not the government. While they may have been legally elected, their actions are outside the parameters of "the government". For example, if two policeman moonlight as burglars while working as policeman, even though they are sworn officers, carry a badge, and are being paid as policemen. their actions are not the actions of the police department. Their actions are their own.

I think you ought to think before you write. There is a big difference between our government, and our politicians. I totally support our government. But I have a real problem with those politicians who have broken the law. And I know the difference.

sincerely,
Greg Butko

You're misreading the

You're misreading the article.

The defining reason for RP's rise in stature and polls, is specifically because he speaks to people who have finally come around to a visceral dislike (that'd be hate in tabloid journalism) for government.

It's not about some cop going bad. It's about how 90+% of what government does, even if all those involved do their jobs to perfection, is detrimental to liberty.

It's not like the Department of Education is somehow bad because someone working there is doing a poor job. Their very existence is an insult to liberty, decency and civility. As is almost every other thing government is involved in.

How anyone can look at RP's rise in popularity, and not recognize it has to do with people finally seeing government, meaning what it has become over the last century or so, as an enemy of their freedoms, is beyond me.

People are getting fed up with them, with their rules, laws, regulations, confiscations, and in many cases, their very existence. And people who feel this way will vote RP. Who else would they vote for? Who else promises to work to get rid of most of that wretched institution of tyranny?

Imagine a dart board comprised of all the different functions of government as of today. Throw a dart and see where it lands. The more people viscerally disliking / hating that the government is involved in that function, the better off we are.

thnk you Mr Butko

Just to put this in perspective.

I cant believe this is on the fp of the dailypaul
This is not about hating government. Ron Paul doesnt hate government.
The article even contains lies about the Pauls that are treated as facts
Paul will not likely be the next president. And his son still faces the most arduous part of his journey as Democrats spend millions to paint him as soft on defense, lax on drug enforcement and too radical on welfare programs.
I swear this is the kind of stuff that kills us with the mainstream. this is about making government smaller not hating anyone
Even former GOP chairman Marcus Carey doesnt seem to agree with the message of the article and Carey isnt a Paulbot[sic]

Dude, this was a great

Dude, this was a great article!

Of course RP hates the government. Not necessarily the idea of some kind of (very limited) government, nor personally the people who happen to work for government, but almost all of what the government is and does as of today.

Break government into it's constituent parts, and tally up which parts RP is for, and which parts he is against. The for / against ratio is deep in the single digit percentages, guaranteed. Which makes hating the government, a reasonable approximation for the sentiment that drives people to support Paul over other contenders.

In fact, the greater the share of people out there that hates government, the greater the share that will vote for RP. He stands to lose very few votes from those even further towards the anarchist camp, who hates government even more than he does. 99% of those backing someone else over Paul, do so because they have more faith in government than he does. To the extent their faith is broken and turned into visceral hatred, RP will benefit in the polls.

If we are to prove faulty the Examiner's prediction that he won't win in 2012, we should encourage even more people to hate government, along with pretty much everything the government is currently involved in. People with that sentiment not only will reliably vote RP, but will also vote for congress critters and senators enabling RP to pass as much of his legislation as possible, if he should win.

Be happy! We're getting massive press right now, from huge outlets that previously ignored or ridiculed us. If this keeps up, we'll win, and with us, so will America. While government, and all its enablers and cheerleaders will lose. And that is a good thing!

No offense

but that article sucked ass. It totally painted us as anti government, anti rule of law people. It painted us as a we hate everyone group. We got work to do, keep on pushing forward. Carpavel, you have been here a long time and I love ya, sorry to beat up on your post, but the article had such a negative tone, which I realize was the original writer's tone, it was just too negative for me. I appreciate and respect everything you contribute though, and hope to keep you around. Keep up the great work!!!!
