Whom did you support before converting to Dr. Paul?

I'm just curious--we've posted about where we're from, how old we are, our walks of life, etc. but before you became a Ron Paul supporter, whom did you support in this election? Was Ron Paul your man from day one? Did you cross party lines to join the Revolution? Did you support another republican candidate first?
I was a Fred Thompson supporter before joining the Revolution. I'm glad I saw the light!
I still get the update emails from Thompson's official campaign. The latest edition just arrived in my inbox, which prompted me to ask the question.

In this election, No One
The last time I voted was 1988; guess who I voted for then? Since then I haven't bothered; of course I liked Harry Browne (whose book How I Found Freedom Changed My Life 25 years ago), but the exercise in futility just wasn't worth the trouble.
My first election was 1964; a hereditary liberal Democrat, I thought I should be a Responsible Citizen and hear all sides, so I read Goldwater's book The Conscience of a Conservative, and it made a lot of sense, but still I succumbed to the propaganda -- "Goldwater's going to get us into a war!" -- and my conditioning, and voted for Johnson.
Three years later I had to flee to Canada to escape Johnson's war.
I was able to return the following year, and in subsequent elections drifted further left, to the Peace & Freedom and Citizens Parties, until I met Irwin Schiff in 1981 and began to learn the truth, i.e. that everything I'd been taught and thought I knew about history, politics, economics, etc. was a carefully-designed tapestry of lies. I heard about Ron Paul that same year, and sent him some money.
Ron Paul remains the only "politician" I've ever contributed to; though I've never lived in Texas, I've considered him my only representative in the District of Corruption, so sent him a little now and then. I'd heard he was running this time, but though I certainly wished him well, I wasn't paying much attention -- till that "debate" in May and the resulting explosion of interest in the general population, beyond the usual small group of libertarians.
Since then the rEVOLution has practically taken over my life; I follow events every day (chronically ill, I spend most of my time in front of my computer) and have sent more money (as I will again on Sunday). And, though registering Republican is about the only idea more nauseating than registering Democrat, that's what I plan to do -- though my state's primary isn't till June. And if Ron Paul isn't the Republican nominee, I'll write him in, then de-register and go back to preparing for the coming Dark Age.
(And BTW, like another poster, my "second choice" is Hillary -- though of course I'd never vote for her. But I figure, okay, if America isn't ready for Peace, Freedom & Prosperity, if "the people" really want more of the same, then let's go ahead and get it over with. I consider Hillary the perfect figure to preside over the Final Collapse of the one-time United States of America.)
What will come of it all? I have no idea, but the political scene, and the future, have suddenly become at least a lot more interesting. It's wonderful to find suddenly that there're more than the historical handful of Americans who're actually interested in Liberty. Some of the sheeple, at least, are waking up!
Nobody
I haven't voted since 1992. Ross Perot seemed like a great candidate then because of his stance on NAFTA. He was really a one issue guy though, I don't recall his stance on policing the world, Fed Res, income tax, etc. I wouldn't have voted at all were Ron Paul not running. He's the best candidate for president in my lifetime. I wouldn't even have considered voting for any of the others this time around.

No-one!
i didnt like any of them until i learned Ron Paul was running. This made me really excited. I looked up ron paul after seeing Russo's FTF and when i saw he was running ive been riding the high ever since.
I liked McCain in 2000,
I liked McCain in 2000, Edwards in 2004, and before I heard of Ron Paul, I guess I liked Dodd, he seemed the best bet on the Democratic side. But the first debate seeing Ron Paul won me over, and I have never doubted that choice since. My eyes have truly been opened.
I think Obama was my first choice
I didn't whole-heartedly support anyone before I found Ron Paul, but I was leaning towards Obama. Honestly, I have no idea why at this point. If Ron Paul were not in the race I'd probably just be looking for the best Libertarian candidate, maybe even consider Kucinich. I don't really like Kucinich as a big-government guy, but he has very progressive social positions which I agree with and he has a lot of integrity. But all that doesn't matter to me right now. I found Dr. Paul a few months ago, researched him, and now I know that my first presidential primary vote in my life will go towards a good man, not "the lesser of two evils," (I am 18 so I have never voted in a primary before).
I've voted Republican
in every presidential election since 1974. Voted for Keyes in the 2000 primaries, voted Bush in the general election. Voted Bush in 2004 (a vote AGAINST Kerry that year.)
Sometime around 2005 I became so disgusted by the grotesque spending by a Republican majority that I became a member of the Libertarian Party.
After hearing that Ron Paul was running, I returned to the Republican Party to support him. Should he not win, I will either return to the LP, or stay in the Republican Party to be a fly in the ointment. .
GOP
I was BORN in '74... About a week before Nixon resigned.
Ronald Reagan was my childhood hero. I've voted Republican in every election until 2004. '92, Bush-Quayle, '96 Dole-Kemp, 2000 G.W.Bush-Cheney...
In 2004, I voted for Badnarik-Campaigna. Sometime shortly after the elections in 2000, I realized that the Libertarian party was closer to the Republican ideals I'd been taught my whole life. Even Reagan had been manipulated into betraying those ideals, and he was supposed to be my hero!
I'm glad Ron Paul is letting me vote Republican again, though. I wish Reagan had stayed closer to the core of Conservatism. Maybe all the neo-cons would have gone to the Democratic party, where they belong.
What kind of question is this?
It's been Ron Paul since I was born. I was born again Paul as soon as I heard his message. Stop fishing. It's not important. Tomorrow is the message.
Thresh
I like that it shows how varied the support is.
It helps as poll data and shows we are in every camp, spreading the gospel of RP. It's nice to see that truth and honesty can still bring us together.
exactly
This is exactly why I asked this question to begin with. It shows that Ron Paul unites people of all sorts of background and beliefs, and that the uniting factor is the freedom to hold those beliefs. We are each a colorful tile in a mosaic, and Ron Paul's message is the glue.
Jesus is my Lord and my God, and Ron Paul, champion of all things freedom, including religion and the free exercise thereof, is my choice for president.
My Story
I had heard of Dr. Paul for many years, as the Constitutionalist! 1992, Bush 1. 1996, Howard Phillips. 2000 Howard Phillips. After suporting Keyes in primary. 2004, disgusted. Didn't support or try to campaign for anyone. But pulled the anti-kerry lever.
I'm so excited to have the opportunity to support and vigorously campaign for someone who actually believes what I believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No One. Knew about Ron Paul for 10 years +
The others are all tarred with the same brush.
While we knew Paul, all that time, he wasn't in our state. But kept up with some of his doings on the web.

I was for Dennis before Ron
I was for Dennis before Ron. I knew who Ron was, but didnt know he was running until later on and then I switched to him. Dennis is still a very good candidate, but Ron would do more for this country. He will do things that Dennis would not do. Like get rid of the CIA, FED, IRS, and end the drug war.
Undecided
I would have voted for the candidate from the Constitution Party as a protest vote. I could never bring myself to support the others.
Voted for Kerry in 04, in 08..Hillary, Obama, then Ron
I voted for Kerry because I wanted to end the war or at least get someone more responsible. I also saw the deficit going up tremendously and thought Bush had to be one of the top 5 worst president. Now I know he must be the worst in the history of the USA. (our children will look back at this generation as the most ignorant for not getting this guy out of office sooner)
I supported Hillary at first because like a lot of people, I didn't think Bill Clinton did a bad job in office. Then I looked into Obama a little bit. Finally I came across this guy that got dissed by Giuliani in a debate where he talked about foreign policy and quoted books and authors. After that I had to look into him some more.
Now I changed over to the Republican party and brought along my sister and mother. I'm trying to get as many republicans to vote for him in the primaries.
If every hardcore Ron supporter bring just one more republican, Ron will win this thing!
I am so amazed at all the
I am so amazed at all the people who came here from elsewhere. Who woke up to the message of Ron Paul from so many varied places. Wow. My own story is not so enlightened. I am 60 years old and have lived in despair of national politics my whole life. I have been voting a straight Libertarian ticket for more than 30 years. I voted for Dr. Paul in 1988, knowing that nobody would ever hear his message and despairing of things ever changing. I have always followed John Quincy Adams' advice: “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” But I always felt my vote was lost and that I was just a lonely soul. How marvelous to see the nation and even the world galvanizing from the ground up in support of these ideas now that they are hearing them. How amazing that this man has devoted the last 30 years of his life to reach a point where he can at least get his ideas heard in hopes that some will listen. How gratifying it must be for him to hear our voices rising up and our money flowing into his campaign in support. He knows what this money means to us. He lives in our world. Aww, I'm getting maudlin.

I voted for Bush over Kerry
I voted for Bush over Kerry in the first Presidential election I was allowed to vote in.
In 1992 I was a big fan of Ross Perot.
In 1996 I was a big fan of Ross Perot and Steve Forbes
In 2000 I liked Steve Forbes and Alan Keyes
In 2004 I voted for George Bush -- I wasn't in love with the candidate, but I was voting against Kerry.
In 2008, I originally thought that I would support Rudy Giuliani. I wasn't psyched about any of the candidates, and I had heard rumblings of Thompson, but didn't know his politics. I didn't really support anyone though, until I saw a debate back in May... and there was Dr. Paul, the libertarian I was hoping for.
I've been on the Paul bandwagon since that early debate, and I'm going to ride it until there is a libertarian movement in this country worth discussing.

Good comment!
I liked that comment by lonelibertarian: "if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything".
Never voted in my life, nor cared about politics. I am 40 now. I overheard Dr. Paul's name in a restaurant where 2 men were talking among themselves. Well, not sure why I had to "google" his name as soon as I turned on the laptop next. The rest as you may say is history.

Libertarian socialism is
Libertarian socialism is another way of saying anarchism. Not chaos, but a society where equality among all is dispersed through free association (no one can force you into this) and mutual aid (everyone working together).
And just for the record, I do not support abortion. I don't support the taking of innocent life (hence, the veganism).
**Edited: Sorry, this was in response to a previous question**
Badnarik
Badnarik in the last election. RP from day one for this election cycle. I followed him before he announced he was running :)
Dennis the Menace - but then

I voted for El Presidente twice... McCain as Senator
I voted for El Presidente Jorge Bush twice. Also voted for McCain for Senator. I've always been a Republican. Bush and McCain are both RINO's. I will never vote for McCain in anything again. Bush has pissed me off so much I'd be Registered as an Independent or Libertarian right now if it weren't for Ron Paul.
First I supported Tancredo, before I heard of Paul. When I first saw Dr. Paul in the first debate I switched to supporting him once I did some research. But I thought he didn't have a chance. When Fred Thompson announced he was going to run I decided I'd probably vote for him. Well Ron Paul started picking up steam and had a good 3rd quarter. So I switched back to Ron Paul. I know even more about all the candidates now, and I simply won't be able to vote for anyone else but Ron Paul. Actions speak louder than lies with me. Ron Paul is the only one who tells it like it is, and backs up what he says with his voting record.
If Ron Paul doesn't win the nomination I'm leaving the Republican party. At that point there will officially be no hope for this party, just as there is no hope for the Democrats. America will need a new party in order to fix things and restore America to what it was meant to be.

not really Rudy
I had Rudy in the back of my head, but I hadn't looked into him at all yet. The moment I heard RP was running, I sent in 50 bucks and knew he was my man.

No One
No one, I was seriously contemplating not voting for the first time in years. Even when I found out Dr. Paul was running I was still skeptical that there would be enough support and I have followed his career for 20 years. I am guardedly hopeful after watching 30 years of apathy and downright stupidity from American voters.
I am amazed to to see so many people embrace Dr. Paul's message I never thought I'd see the day and it has indeed given me hope again. However if this election is stolen from Dr.Paul and the majority of you people bail out on this freedom movement then I will never be involved in politics again!
If the majority of you stay in the fight no matter what happens on election day then I will fight to the death with you.
