"Immigration Reform": The Democrats' Plans for a Perpetual Super-Majority...Will BackfireSubmitted by John Adams on Sun, 05/02/2010 - 20:05
Assuming that the legislation passes, they can't magically just give people citizenship; there will have to be some process for lining up at the Secretary of State or DMV or wherever to file. Given that illegals have no documentation, how do you prove how long anyone has been here? It doesn't matter if you've been here for 20 years or 20 min, you get citizenship. That should set off some alarm bells, because the moment the bill passes, people will flood the border. And you can't blame them. If some idiot is willing to freely give up his land and country, you'd be a fool not to take it.
The logic behind the Democrats' thoughts of a super-majority for life is a fallacy. The truth is Latinos are smart, hard-working, and ambitious. They aren't stupid. A new "voting bloc" of tens to hundreds of millions of people would effectively be able to take over all political establishments.
If you and millions of your countrymen just received political power and voting rights, why the hell would you vote for Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid or Barack Obama when you could vote for Selena Fernandez or Jose Calderon or Miguel Aceveda? You wouldn't. You'd run for Governor, set your mom up as Treasurer, make your dad the Secretary of State, your brother the Sheriff, and so on and so on, until every neighbor and extended family member was running the government. And of course you'd win, because your have a voting bloc of "your people" -- people with the exact same background and story as you.
Who better to relate to and convey Latino concerns than one of "la raza"? How could a White or Black politician ever understand your needs/desires when most of them can't even understand your language? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that people who are seeking freedom and a better life from a corrupt government and horrible living conditions won't be falling over themselves to live under the thumbs of new masters.
Possible Unintended Good Consequences of Amnesty Passing?
The Freedom Movement needs to start reaching out to Latinos (legal and illegal). They're not all collecting welfare. Most just want a better life and instead of treating them like the enemy, we need to embrace them and share with them the beauty and ideology of the Constitution. We need the Constitution translated into Spanish and spread into every town and barrio in the country. This way it's a contingency plan; even if amnesty passes, people will be awake and vigilant about their rights. And since the government will have caved to their demands, they'll keep making demands--demands for either socialistic giveaway or their Constitutional rights (depending on who is able to best influence their hearts).
Let's be realistic. Most Americans will never "wake up" until it's too late, if at all. Should amnesty pass, our cause would actually be better served with the newly -legal illegals--IF AND ONLY IF we can spread the message and ideas of Freedom to them before we lose the opportunity. If you had millions of "new Americans" who read the Constitution and believed in their freedom, the government could not stop them.
When people are struggling to be free, they are a lot more vehement about protecting their Rights than those who have grown apathetic and complacent because of a sense of entitlement.
Put yourself in the place of a poor illegal worker who was just given citizenship. Wouldn't you want the right to start a business and make a better life for yourself? To have access to a better standard of living? You'd band together with others who had the same vision and demand lower business taxes, that government get out of the way, and call anyone who wants to raise taxes racist because they want to keep Latinos down (they want them to be citizens so they can vote, but they don't want them getting too rich, etc.). The legalization of the illegals could actually be the driving factor in a new renaissance because the new citizenry would be more enthusiastic about improving their lives than the sheep who will sit around and do nothing.
