Big News! Fred Thompson Fails to Make the Delaware Primary Ballot
Submitted by soulmantim on Thu, 12/13/2007 - 16:18
With this news could there be a possible bow out at the Iowa Caucus if Thompson doesn't place?

Is this a good thing or bad thing for Ron Paul?

Bad news for RP; we wanted
Bad news for RP; we wanted Fred in there to further dilute the neocon vote.
Funny thing about actors
.
I worked in broadcast TV for a long time and one thing I have observed: actors tend to be out of touch with reality and are not always blessed with high intelligence. Flubber Thompson is such a person.
He found a nice niche on Law & Order and small parts in movies. He gets treated well - big TV shows are always very nice to the talent. This is all good for him.
When he dolefully (almost with a touch of embarrassment) announced his seeking the presidency on Jay Leno, it seemed more like a schooboy being sent to the woodshed than a guy who wants to help the Republic. There was a sense of futile resignation in his announcement. As if he knew he had no chance from the get-go, but was going to do it anyways.
It is easy to take pot-shots at Flubber. I have done my share, here and elsewhere, but he seems kind of pathetic. More worthy of compassion than ridicule. Whatever fire he may have had in his belly burned out long ago. He might be a great guy to go fishing with, but not to have a hand in steering the ship of state.
In interviews and debates, he can come up with a good quip, but clearly he is in way over his head. He is certainly no match for Ron Paul.
.
Flubber Thompson?
LMAO!!! You got me there.

Thompson?
I agree. Fred doesn't seem motivated at all. It's as if he was forced to be somewhere he doesn't want to be.
I don't understand how he thought
he would be a contender? Just because he looks the part doesn't mean he'll be a good president. It just makes him a good actor.
If Mitt could do it...
If Mitt could do it...
I stand corrected.
You got me there.
I'd rather they pare off
I'd rather they pare off some of the lower tier candidates at this point to focus the attention on the more serious candidates... (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

Hope Fred stays in...
It just further divides the neocon candidates...
He would make a better VP
He would make a better VP that most of the others suggested on here, like Edwards, Gravel, Kucinich, Marx.
Aside from being dead...
...GROUCHO Marx would have made a fine running mate.

Agreed, sort of
I think Goldwater Jr. would make a good VP.
Fred just doesn't seem motivated..
Here's why I ask if it's good or not:
Yes, on the topic of the war and foreign intervention, they are polar opposites. However, Thompson was my second choice once he started talking, he had some good points on domestic issues BUT didn't seem like he wanted to be our President.
I think if Thompson drops out he may endorse another candidate. One of the pundits where saying that he may endorse McCain.
Maybe the sheer number of Ron Paul supporters at the Fred Thompson rallys could coax him to back Ron Paul, considering Ron Paul is very strong on border security and such.
It really is a toss up here, but I know a lot of Thompson supporters liked him because he wouldn't take a dump on the constitution like most of the others. There are Thompson supporters, like those at Redstate.com, that have a kneejerk reaction to Ron Paul because he's against the Iraq war.
So, anyway, things aren't looking up for Thompson, Hunter, or Tancredo in Iowa where will they go? Who else has a strong border security platform? Certainly not Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, or McCain...
He'll get on
Just like Huckabee got on in Illinois.
The commission will put him in and ask if the other candidates object to it.
If they object, it looks bad on them.
Say what?
az, I'm from Illinois and I haven't heard this. How did you come by that tasty little tidbit?

There is the article link from the Tribune
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-filing_06dec06,...
I had read somewhere, I can't remember where, the he either missed it or made it within 5 minutes of deadline of filing.
The "Barring Objections" make me think he missed it.
That's a little different
Then only having half the amount of votes needed to qualify.
I feel bad for Fred. He
I feel bad for Fred. He should drop out and endorse Keyes.

Thompson interviewed about snafu
Reporter "Fred? What happened with the Delaware ballot thing? 281 out of 500 signatures? Like what's the problem? Is it a math thing or something?"
Thompson responded. "look....I....uh...oh...wel....the...sig..uh..nat..ures...well..we felt...that ...then again I...what I am trying to uh...say is that when you....get right ...."
Reporter "Sorry to interrupt, Fred, maybe I can explain this for you...you sent some campaign folks out and they went to the local car wash and took names until they had 281...then they went to the secretary of state and handed them in and it was bunch of guys from New Jersey and stuff..right?"
Thompson,"well...uh..yeah...yeah that's right."
Reporter.."and like 14 of them were registered republicans in Delaware?"
Thompson "Now just hold there! We didn't know where Delaware was...Ok?...uh...we knew it...uhm...was a state and everything..but...uh it wasn't on the navigation in the cadillac....so...we kinda got ...uh lost."
Reporter..."oh,"
We want it more than they do and apparently we want it waaaay more than the Thompson campaign."

If he couldn't get 500 sigs there, he probably wouldn't many voters either.
