Depends....Are you required to maintain the lawn? If so, then you have a case. If not, then you probably don't.

Your action of renting allows you that space as personally rented to you. In the same reason, it is unlawful for an owner to enter a home/apartment without giving ample notice. Just because he owns it, that does not give him liberty to do what he wishes to it.

You can thank your pandering liberal politicians for laws that protect the tenant to no ends....in this case, they are on your side.

He has his reasons. And I don't think anything you say will change his mind because he has gone to the trouble of buying the sign and posting it. After you find out his reasons, then you could say why you support Ron Paul. Then go home and put up a RP sign right next to his... or on the other side of the yard. If he gripes about it, say "Why are you griping about it?! They're both great guys, and I think Mike would make an excellent running mate for Ron Paul!"

If he insists you take down the sign, then do it. Then make yourself a great BIG Banner and hang it off the eves of your house. Hey, its out of the yard, right?

That's no different than the landlord coming in and making you hang a Huckabee sign on your living room wall. Looks like a violation of a rental agreement to me. If you rented it, then you have the right to use it how YOU want to use it unless indicated otherwise in the contract.

I'd hate to discourage you but it's almost no convincing red necks. How old is he? Has he ever been outside of the USA? Does he talk like a red neck? Most of those who vote in this country are blind sheep. The only way to do something is trying to find out from the legal side if you have a right to also put your sign whoever you support. I don't know what else to tell you...

If you rent the entire house and your landlord came over and put this on your lawn you should not only tear the sign to pieces, but you should slap you landlord around for mouthing off to you. You live in rural Iowa? Well than I think you know how to handle trespassers. Huckabee is a lunatic who raised a psychotic son.

I pretty much read this whole thread. I don't think anyone mentioned converting your landlord to supporting Ron Paul. I find it hard to believe that anyone who is truly informed would support Huckabee. So just educate your landlord on the issues.

I know the law in Cali, this might be enough of a reason that you can live for free for a few months. Well, not exactly free because you have to deal with a lot of BS which waste lot of time. But check the law.

Just the kind of story they would love and it would embarrass the hell out of him! This is the kind of story they have on a night. Local tenant fights with landlord over political free speech on property!

PS Your landlord can't put anything he wises on the property you are renting unless it is specifically listed in the lease. Read your lead. Its like him leaving his car on your lawn. Not allowed.

You rent the land. You can take the sign down and do so immediately. Replace it with a Ron Paul sign.

Look under the local (city or township) landlord/tenant ordinances. Often times if the landlord is abusive or a tenant has been threatened it automatically breaks the lease. In fact the invasion of privacy by your landlord may be enough to break the lease with a decent lawyer. Move out on the guy and let him pay the mortgage.

Be a little smart about it first. Send a letter to the landlord asking for him/her to remove the sign. Hopefully he/she will reply in writing. Use the documentation trail. It's your only hope for a good outcome. Otherwise, I'd just surround it with Ron Paul signs.

check with your state on the laws for tenants. I think that as a person leasing a property it is legally yours as long as you are current on the rent. So it is your property and you do not have to allow the land lord to dictate to you as to advertising

I would not want too much of a confrontation with my landlord. It is pretty obvious he has a different idea of 'free political speech'. I would look at my lease to see if I am in my rights to toss the sign OR I would visit each one of my neighbors to stage a massive act of protest. LOL

I would talk to all my neighbors right away and ask each one of them to take one of my RP signs and stick them in THEIR yards on my behalf.

Your mission is not to sell RP, but to advocate for free political speech- to do something to help the 'underdog'. Even if they do not support your candidate or they say no - it is still ok. Some will do it, some won't - the whole point is to get them talking about RP. I think a lot of people agree it is wrong to censor someone like this and there is a good chance they will be willing to stand up for your right to represent the candidate you choose.

Even the ones that say no are still a planted seed. Maybe they will get curious about 'who that guy is' and they will find out more about him after talking to you and watching others put the signs up.

Take it down now. As the lease holder you are in possession of the property not him. It's like saying he can come on the property anytime he wants since he is the owner. He can't even come on the property legally without notifying you reasonably as per your lease.

If you were leasing a building for a business the owner could not come and put up a sign for another business this is just ridiculous.

The guy is way out of line. I know you may not want to make waves with him but he has no right to do that.

If you are renting it including the yard then he can not use it for his purposes you then have the right to control what you are paying rent for!

Pay some negihborhood children like $5 to steal it. Just a suggestion.
