A similar trend is playing out in the Kentucky Senate contest, where anti-establishment candidate Rand Paul has collected 52% of his nearly $2.4 million campaign kitty from smaller donors. Trey Grayson, his GOP primary opponent who has the backing of Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and other top party figures, collected about 7% of his money from small donors. Grayson also has raised $2.4 million for the May 18 primary.
In addition, 17% of Grayson's money came from political action committees; less than 0.4% of Paul's did, the analysis found.
