Update 2: From The Hill:
Paul urged support for an amendment by Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), that is identical to what's included in the House-passed bill that will require "full disclosure and full accountability going forward."

Update 1: From Huffpo:
David Vitter has picked up the Sanders standard and will get a vote on the full Fed audit following Sanders. Splitting the action into two votes could give Fed defenders an opportunity to carve up the bipartisan coalition, with Republicans generally voting for the Vitter amendment and Democrats generally voting for Sanders - leaving neither with enough to get over the top.

So someone straighten me out here
Didn't Ron Paul say he wouldn't have voted for this bill because it was an overall bad bill with only a good amendment (audit the Fed)?
So what are people saying to their representatives? I'm struggling with what to write them.
I'll be happy to. You're new
I'll be happy to. You're new here. Ron Paul never votes for a bill that has anything in it that violates the Constitution. He voting record is flawless. And though his history making Audit the Fed legislation was lumped in with the bill, he could not violate his principle of voting for a bad bill. There is no one in Congress with such high integrity. He is peerless.
Thanks for the help
I'm SORT OF new here, just registered but I check the Daily Paul everyday. I'm a long time Paul supporter. I agree there is no one like him. But...
I'm struggling with telling my representatives that they should have voted for a bill that Paul wouldn't have voted for. In defense couldn't they say "Well, Ron Paul didn't support this bill either."?
I understand that this is just inherent to our current system; that good legislation gets tacked together with bad legislation so, seemingly, to get the good you must accept the bad. Perhaps thats my hang up.
It's my
understanding, that the amendments are voted upon separetly from the main bills?!?

I made a Youtube plea to my Senator
...then I e-mailed it to his office.
It's too late to save this one, but the issue isn't going away.
Keep in mind, I'm going easy on him and trying to be diplomatic while still getting my point across.

i understand why, so i don't
i understand why, so i don't want this to sound like an attack, which it is not. but if there is no up and down vote on s604 soon, then it would be time for ron paul to stop endorsing neo cons and come down harder on the establishment, not worrying about his committee seats, which would be meaningless.
I'm a peaceful patriot too but there is
nothing peaceful about how much the cronies in gov't and big corporations are stealing from us. There's nothing peaceful about this great nation crumbling before our eyes as a few thousand elitist pigs run off with our money. You can bet they will be living high off the hog in some other country as we become impoverished and destitute, working for our $7K salary per year, like the rest of the world. The choice is tough - poor and free or poor and slaves. On the bright side, this event can be a springboard to be a light to the country about this dark behavior.
I liked what Jim DeMint said about the fed
"They are not as smart as they think they are"
"They used to come get you and lock you up because you were insane, Now they come get you and lock you up because you are sane"

Bob Bennett not a conservative
Senator Bennett is the Utah Senator of 18 years seniority in the Senate that just lost his bid for re election.
That is a good thing.
He does as the lobbyist from the Federal Reserve Bank requested. He voted no.
He is against Ron Paul's legislation to audit the Fed.
He does not deserve to be in the Senate for that and many more reasons..

LOL - I sent Lamar Alexander a note about supporting Vetter...
Here is his canned reply! I find this condescending A!@#$'s response insulting since he assumes that I, the uninformed and ignorant constituent, couldn't possibly have any real understanding of what the Fed is and how it works! Thankfully, he has cleared it up for me now and I can go back to sleep...or so he thinks! I wrote him back and explained to him what the Fed has really done to this country, under his watch and that, although my wife and I voted for him last time, we will now not only give the maximum amount to his opponant, we will also work had to throw him out on his A#$! I also mentioned that history will not judge him as a champion of the people, but as a sellout and a traitor who chose the dark side over the right side! Here is his response...
Mr. and Mrs. XXXX XXXXXXXXXXX
Dear XXXX,
Thanks very much for getting in touch with me and letting me know what's on your mind regarding the Federal Reserve System.
In 1913, Congress created the Federal Reserve System to serve as the central bank of the United States in order to provide the nation with a safer, more flexible, and more stable monetary and financial system. Over the years, its role in banking and the economy has expanded. Today, its duties include regulating banks and influencing credit conditions in pursuit of a stronger economy. You can learn more about the Federal Reserve's history and current role at http://www.federalreserve.gov/pf/pdf/pf_1.pdf.
The Federal Reserve does not run on taxpayer dollars from Congress. In fact, each year the Federal Reserve returns any profits to the U.S. Treasury - including nearly $35 billion in 2008. However, by law the Federal Reserve is accountable to Congress. For example, members of its Board of Governors are confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and Federal Reserve officials must appear before congressional committees several times each year. In addition, the Federal Reserve must issue annual reports and undergo regular audits that cover most of its activities. In a step towards greater transparency, the Federal Reserve also provides details about its activities on its website at http://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/bst.htm.
While ensuring that the Federal Reserve System remains accountable for its actions, Congress should not try to micromanage the Federal Reserve or weigh it down with overly burdensome reporting requirements. It was set up to be independent of the political trends in Washington, and it should remain that way. That is why I haven't joined as a cosponsor of the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act.
I appreciate your taking the time to let me know where you stand. I'll be sure to keep your comments in mind when the Federal Reserve is discussed and debated in Washington and in Tennessee.
Sincerely,
Lamar

This is NOT over!
They hope that we will become discouraged and just fade away.
Every time someone has stood up to them in the past they have pulled some kind of trick and won a battle like today's vote.
And afterwords their opposition has always dissolved; retiring to lick their wounds or becoming part of the problem.
This movement is different.
We know the stakes.
We know the REAL enemy and we will not be deflected.
Ron Paul was ignored, ridiculed, and defeated in the 2008 election.
His movement is now stronger than ever.

You have to identify a rat before you can get rid of it. Now that we have done that, the rest is easy. If that old man in the congress can take a slap again and again...so can I...

Put Audit-the-Fed HR1207 To A Senate Vote!
Just pass the House Rep 1207 Audit-the-Fed passed the House of Rep. Let it pass w/o amendment and move on to our Executive branch.
Amendments are are pesky things.
Look at all the trouble caused by the "Income Tax, 16th Amendment" and "Direct Senate Vote, 17th."
Senator Direct Vote, 17th? Failed ratification. Completely.
Income Tax, 16th? Failed ratification. Completely.
These amendments, and many since, are frogs. Leaped right over Constitutional process. Never ratified. No rats.
Philander Knox, Secretary of State pretended them into existence.
Pardon me, Ladies, if you feel I spoke a bad word.

McCain and Shelby
I have a little soft spot for these Senators now, I thought Shelby of Al. would have voted against this bill, notice alot of retiring senators are voting against this bill looking to work for the special interest now, Gregg, Bond, Dodd, Bayh, Voinovich, and Bennett ousted, let's not forget the democrats who voted against this bill also which is most of them, we need to vote them out of office.
Ron Paul 'outraged' over audit the fed vote
" After the Senate rejected the tougher version of an ‘Audit the Fed’ bill, Congressman Ron Paul (R-Tx.), who’s been pushing for an audit of the nation’s central bank and money printer since the 70s, lashed out on Facebook.
“I am outraged. The Senate just voted down the Vitter Amendment and against a real audit of the Federal Reserve.” wrote Paul. “My entire team and I are going to work very hard to make sure the American people know who voted right, and who voted with the banking special interests.”

We got it PASSED in the House and at least forced SOMETHING through in the Senate. That is a big deal, even if not nearly enough.
This is depressing news, but

I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say this is not over and we're not going to simply walk away with our tails between our legs. Instead, this only ups our commitment to push harder until we finally END THE FED!
Who's with me?
Unless Ron Paul! -Lorax
No surprise here.
We all knew this was going to be the outcome. We are fighting the good fight. We don't stop, we don't surrender. Like guerrilla warfare we only lose by not fighting. Let's get these facist traitors out. WE WILL EVENTUALLY WIN.
There is always next year.
I bet the crooks are running scared, what are they going to do to stop it in 2011?
This is precisely why we need to repeal the 17th Amendment
The US Senate is America's Corruption Central. Until the 17th Amendment is repealed and we have the Senators chosen by the state legislatures, we are going to have to put up with this bull***t.
Senator Direct Election Never Passed. US 17th Amendment Failed
The "Direct election of US Senators" is a frog.
Jumped right over Constitutional process. Never ratified. And the rats involved, mind you, were none too happy about their con failing. They pretended Philander Knox, Secretary of State deemed it and the Income tax 16th amendment too.
Pardon me, Ladies. Saying "Philander." is not polite.
Those ratifying boys could not ratify those amendments. No matter how hard they ratted. Not acceptable at all. Adding insult to injury, they locked up all our gold as hostage. Finally, the fort where they hid our gold was named, "(Philander) Knox." Sorry ladies. His actions, as you might guess by his name, are reprehensible indeed.

this just simply sucks
I'm going to write Ron Paul a note. He must be so disappointed. How much can this man take? He is a miracle as far as I can see. I don't know how he gets up and goes to work each day. Talk about professionalism.
It sucks all right
I like your idea about the letter to Ron. He is a miracle. Nobody, NOBODY comes close. Our country is lucky to have him.
