The best solution to the BP oil spill: privatize the oceans

This is something that Walter Block talks about. Here's a quote I like on this from him:

"there are vast areas of human existence where private property rights play no role at all: oceans, seas, rivers and other bodies of water. But why should we expect that there would be any better results from such 'water socialism' than we have experienced from socialism on land?" - http://mises.org/journals/scholar/waterprivate.pdf

its an interesting idea. We

its an interesting idea. We should be wary of the unintended consequences that would occur as the government(and it would have to be a world government that could claim ownership of the oceans) "auctioned" off land to their cronies. I don't view this as a priority, though. I don't think the BP spill had anything to do with capitalism or socialism, it was just human error or something more sinister, but not systemic.

The king's oceans......

Just like the king's forest. This is where privatization would lead, only the rich could afford it (i.e. sectors of ocean) and it would be considered the same way as other corporate lands with signs reading, "Attention Pesants, KEEP OUT"...... There already doing it.

You don't think so, there's a video now out with one of the top enviro-elietest out there calling for privatization of every sector of earth. I will post when I find it.

Re: The king's oceans

Here's the video I mentioned where environmental-elitist admit that some should own every square inch of the world. To privatize is to play right into they're hands.

Well, I agree with some elite-environmentalist

if they advocate every inch of the world should be owned.

If socialism on land doesn't work DailyPauler, why are you advocating socialism on water?

Re: Well, I agree . . . .

Being that you agree with them doesn't suprise me, cause elite-environmentalist are mainly comprised of socialist, which are monopoly-capitalist and they are the ones who would end up owning the oceans.

Just because I don't want privatized oceans doesn't give you a right to falsely lable me a socialist any more than it makes you a real capitalist.

That's why god invented

That's why god invented insurgency!

I am out of touch with most Americans precisely because I am not out of touch with reality.

Hahaha, so who's going to

Hahaha, so who's going to sell the oceans? Someone who doesn't own them to begin with?

I am out of touch with most Americans precisely because I am not out of touch with reality.

Nobody.

People homestead unowned property.

Riiiiiiiight... homesteading

Riiiiiiiight... homesteading the oceans.

If I was gonna live out on the ocean, the last thing I'd want is somebody knowing I'm there.

This thread sounds like la-la land.

Yes, that's the ticket!

We need a Homestead Act for the Ocean~!

Two words

"Shock Doctrine" Naomi Klein. My fear is that Corporatism would be the final nail in the coffin for humanity.

Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.

Nonsense, Klein is an anti-capitalist socialist

Her thinking on political philosophy is retarded. See this review of her book entitled: The Plop Doctrine.

Further if the oceans were privately owned that would not be corporatism. Corporatism is a mixture of gov't and business.

ditto to that ...Klein is no friend of freedom.

So Federal Reserve finances the homesteading

So Federal Reserve finances the homesteading for their corporate buddies. Private capital versus printing presses. I think Q's concerns are justified, at least in the present economic environment.

Free includes debt-free!

I'd rather have JP Morgan own the ocean

than for it to be unknowned as it is currently. As least with an owner, there is somebody with an incentive to take care of it or they will lose money.

Whiskey is for drinking,

Ha!

water privatization is still very relevant as these BP nut-noids can't seem to fix the problem..
