AP–US Drug War Has Met None Of Its Goals

MEXICO CITY — After 40 years, the United States’ war on drugs has cost $1 trillion and hundreds of thousands of lives, and for what? Drug use is rampant and violence even more brutal and widespread.

Even U.S. drug czar Gil Kerlikowske concedes the strategy hasn’t worked.

“In the grand scheme, it has not been successful,” Kerlikowske told The Associated Press. “Forty years later, the concern about drugs and drug problems is, if anything, magnified, intensified.”

This week President Obama promised to “reduce drug use and the great damage it causes” with a new national policy that he said treats drug use more as a public health issue and focuses on prevention and treatment.

Excellent article.

As the federal government becomes ever more desperate for financing, they will demand the right to legalize and tax marijuana. Just a matter of when it will happen, and my guess is it will be very soon. The only thing slowing down legalization of pot is the problem with determining if someone is driving under the influence, since it stays in your system for so long.

The war on drugs

has worked EXACTLY as they planned it's a racists government institution meant to jail minorities take away voting rights and grow ghetos. It's a systematic destruction of black and minority families. The enticement is too great just like our need for money we don't have. The banks knew we would want a system of debt rather than one of wealth wanting what we didn't work for yet. Same lure, same trap same result.

that the msm is finally waking up, at least a little.

legalize ALL drugs, and End

legalize ALL drugs,
and End the Fed!

those two things alone would take care of a lot of trouble.

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

I find it extremely!! interesting

that this is an Associated Press (i.e. mainstream) article and that it pretty much makes the case for the futility of continuing the war on drugs.

THEN, I find Obama's choice of wording interesting..."a new national policy that he said treats drug use more as a public health issue and focuses on prevention and treatment." Sounds to me like he's gonna decriminalize drug USE. This could be the first step to legalization of manufacture and sales.

BOY, things just get more interesting every day.

The medical community has

The medical community has cured NO diseases since polio, and we have not WON any other wars, either..wake up America.

End the war on drugs.

DECRIMINALIZE AND NOTHING LESS.
Legalization is another "stepping stone" move to decriminalization as was getting arrested for smoking in the streets was an honor in the 70's.
The cannabis movement is very dynamic. Keep tuned in.

The war on drugs is really a war on people around the world, and gets "instant" endorsement from the most ignorant amoung us and the most endocrinated amoung us.

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

"endocrinated" A typo or have

you coined a new word? I like it! Endocrinated 1. to be brainwashed by repetitive endorsements 2. over stimulation of the endocrine gland by propaganda
