Old joke from back in the

Old joke from back in the day, post civil right act.
White man brings a black man into a resturant.
They sit down and immediatly the waiters hand the black man a menue and take his order. The white man sits there while they fawn over the black man, then calls the owner over and says "how about serving me". Owner says "the government says I Have to serve him but dosen't say anything about serving the SOB that brought him in here".
Does the white man have a civil rights case against the owner?

Simple question for us DPers.

Simple question for us DPers. Of course not. A business is the sole property of it's owner(s) and theirs to do with it as they wish. If they wish to ban a certain selection of people it's their lose of income.

Should the owner of a youtube channel...

...be allowed to block a user from commenting on their video about the evils of discrimination?

I was just blocked because of my comments on this vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS_qya7w0hs

(oh, the Irony...)

It's His Channel..So Yeah

he's a total douche global warming, climate change, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthew egghead so don't worry about it. I block clowns on my channel if they get too rambunctious but usually let things fly...

Here's the boneheads FB page maybe you could become "friends".

It doesn't bother me.

I do think it's amusing though!
:)

I don't have facebook - I never really saw the point and I hear it's a rampant data mining operation...

Yeah, I was blocked too. I

Yeah, I was blocked too. I didn't even know they could do that. Kind of ironic that they are so against discrimination, yet discriminate against any answer that he/she doesn't agree with. Shows just how ignorant they are!

It's funny because...

...my initial comments are still there and I thought I was being reasonable - a little discussion never hurt anyone...

.

bumpage.

The Attorney General of the USA

In fact three high ranking officials of the US commenting on the very recent AZ immigration law say they have not in fact even read it. Rand Paul is called to task on a law over 50 years old and is supposed to make a do or die statement? Rachel Maddock cocks her head in exasperation as if the outcome is predetermined. Reminds me of "eligibility, do you have any ?" Give me a break !! This is a tempest in a tea pot . If they were not so worried about this man this would not be a discussion.

Very good comment celeste and this thing is clearly

a coordinated PTB attack on not just the Pauls but our movement. The PTB is reeling a bit but they are far from declawed or defanged. The coordination between the supposed R Fox and supposed D MSNBC is obvious for anyone that cares to do the briefest examination.

I think they may be far overplaying their hand and this will backfire on them even given the less than stellar handling of this by high level movement staff.

In Texas

In Texas, an establishment owner has the right to refuse service without cause.

everyone is...and it is so jucily devisive!

Assert Your Authority

to be fair

it's not really the same...

You can choose a belief system (and then become a member of a group based on that). But you can't really choose your color/genes.

So you can reasonably agree with exluding feminists, Christians, Ku Klux Klan members, Buddhists, atheist and so on from your property and still be against excluding someone based on race and other genetic features.

... So, the answer to the thread's question is "no", but it can't settle the debate.

agreed

I think you are right on.

Ding! Someone gets it

The CRA is about discrimination BASED ON RACE, COLOR, RELIGION OR NATIONALITY.

If you are an @sshole, owners can throw you out.

Yes

But Ku Klux Klan meat isn't very tender, so most customers won't order it, anyway.

LOL

KKK "The other White meat", lol.

"They used to come get you and lock you up because you were insane, Now they come get you and lock you up because you are sane"

I think we should ask Maddow to answer that one!

The answer is irrelevant

If you don't agree with government running the show you are a racist. That is the point.

KKK members don't eat in restaurants.

They eat their young.

What are you really asking...

If you say no, then a White property owner need not serve blacks.

Crazy world...I don't think that anyone should be forced to serve anyone, but I don't believe people should refuse service to others based on something like race. That being said, if anyone who thinks I should be a slave asks me to serve them, I should be entitled to the right to say no.

So I would say, yes they have the right to refuse service to a KKK member, but not to a someone based on race, a white man for example.

Yes I believe people have the right to descriminate against you for your personal beliefs as they impact them, no I do not believe that people have the right to discriminate against you for race or privately maintained religion and the government should protect you from prejudice in those areas.

I don`t think it is ok to discriminate against Jews, Muslims or black people, but it is ok to choose not to affiliate with people who are discriminating against you or your community (KKK, jihadists or Israelies who believe you should kill all Palestinians...). How you or the state can make that determination is very personal and difficult to prove. For example, I think you shouldn`t discriminate against women, you should open the door and be a gentlemen, however do you owe any such traditional mannerism to a feminist? What if she is a lesbian feminist...who hates your guts?

Difficult questions, I think the law needs to be involved in extreme cases, but it is a question of morality. It is a free country so fraternity should be voluntary, not mandatory. However...you can't own a bar and serve one person and shoot the next for tresspassing. That doesn't make sense.

Do people have no faith at all...

What person would insist on going to a diner where you are not welcome. The service will be bad, the food may be bad, you will be disrupted throughout the encounter, et. al.

The great unspoken part of this is that word gets out. (Cough, Internet!) Poor service, people stop coming. Racists attitude, you will be boycotted and go out of buisness. Running to the government to punish those you may not agree with is NOT the only option.

That is what Rand was trying to say, but he couldn't speak over the belligerent "Mad-Cow."

She even said get used to it, the media is going to harp on this. This was a zealot with an agenda, period. And she didn't even hide it. Postive coverage of a Tea Party canidate, forget it! And recycling the Tim Russert race crap... Not even origional.

Now to overlap their partisan agenda, the media focuses on Rand, rather than their Uber allly "Mad-Cow". Priceless.

But it doesn't matter, why? Because Kentucky will decide this election. NOT MSNBC!!! In case you haven't noticed, Obama and the liberal agenda aint popular in these parts. Liberal attacks actually help mainline Republicans with Paul.

So what if McConnell backtracks, Rand wasn't his guy to begin with, think he's impartial? The people don't like McConnell down there anyway! Believe me!

This can be answered a couple of ways

First, having owned businesses, I can say that you have the right to refuse service to anyone and for any reason.

Now that that is settled...

Secondly, in this economy! black, white, red, orange, purple!.., If you own a business..Suck it up and take it..make money while you can!

True

I was going to say, I'd serve them as long as they were not acting a fool. If they come in just to eat and don't say anything why not? I can dislike anyone for any reason, but if they come into my business, we obviously get along well enough to have an exchange of currency.
