Learn from the fall of Rome, US warned

The US government is on a ‘burning platform’ of unsustainable policies and practices with fiscal deficits, chronic healthcare underfunding, immigration and overseas military commitments threatening a crisis if action is not taken soon, the country’s top government inspector has warned.

David Walker, comptroller general of the US, issued the unusually downbeat assessment of his country’s future in a report that lays out what he called “chilling long-term simulations”.

What a segue for Ron Paul!

Here's a link for the CBS article, with video clip:

If you can get people to read that and then watch these speeches from Iowa:

it could be a tremendous momentum builder.

So right

This is such an important issue and Ron Paul has it nailed. I wish every cadidate had to address this very issue, not who's to blame, we already know that, but what the solutions are. No other candidate on either side could stand up to Dr Paul in a debate on this issue.

This should be pushed to the forfront nationally and debated.

"The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite."
~ James Madison, Federalist No. 45

Excellent addition to article

One of the things that concerns me about our messege is that a large portion of the GOP react to things in an Apocalyptic way.

What I mean by this is that they believe that our time on this earth is short and that the "Second Coming" is right around the corner. This leads them to act on matters not with the long-term in mind, because "we will not be here anyway". I grew up this way... the Russians were the evil ones then.

This short-term mentality has many weaknesses. Mainly in that it does not take in account scenarios where one outlives the short-term and then is ill prepared.

I come from and older generation than most of you all. Yet I graduated only in 2000 and have used the internet since the early 80's ... anyone remember videotex? Even being 45, my parents were much older... dad was born in 1903 so I grew up with a strange outlook on life.

I can tell you were the battle lies with many in the older generation. Believe me when I tell you that merely shouting at them will fall on deaf ears. Talk about their grankids and you have a way to there hearts though. They are not afraid of sacrafice, but will not to just give something up if they think it is just going to some lazy bum that big government wants to reward.

Talk about them preserving their great legacy, not letting the US fall as the Romans.... these are keys to opening their minds to the reality of our situation here. For us it is about Freedom, for them it is about legacy and security. Different generations hear things differently. When they hear Freedom, they just think hippies.

We need their votes. I have been to a meetup group and love the enthusiasm, but if I had not already done my homework I would have been really turned off. I discovered Dr Paul on the internet even though I actually voted for him in the election when he beat Greg Laughlin. I voted for him as a protest because I did not like Laughlin.... now I will vote for him, not out of protest but because I believe in him.

The point to this is this, appeal to others by first understanding what they think. Listen first. I repeat, LISTEN FIRST! .....Anyone who is in sales know this is the key to being a great salesman. Please understand I want us to succeed. I've been waiting a whole lifetime for some like Dr. Paul.
