Promoting Oathkeepers in Afghanistan
Submitted by 101st-Soldier on Tue, 06/01/2010 - 08:43I just wanted to let you guys know I'm doing my best to promote the Daily Paul and Oathkeepers here in Afghanistan.
I'm heading to Kandahar soon for a few days and I'll be bringing my DVDs (thanks to Ron @ OneDollarDVDProject) there to show some guys I know there and to leave them behind to spread (hopefully like wildfire!)
I also wanted to leave you guys with a photo op I did today.
I wear both an Oath Keeper and Three Percent tab on my kit and on my left shoulder every time I leave the wire.
My CO even asked me what those two meant. I gave him a brief explanation and liked them both. My squad leader liked them too saying "Maybe I'm an oath keeper and three percenter".
More and more people from my unit are starting to come around, a lot more then I ever hoped for. Eventually I'll "leak" the videos to the other companies out here maybe even to the American contractors on the FOB.

the 'reason' that U.S. military is in Afghanistan and Iraq . . .
has been so muddied and complicated by so many angles--
that a connection with what happened in international waters on Monday is weak, if it exists. I mean, it probably does exist in some way; most world events are connected, even in fragile ways, but . . .
The U.S. government involvement overseas (whether through military or CIA or contracts or diplomatic 'missions') is like a tangled web--*thinking entangling alliances*--
the point of oathkeepers is to remind these service men and women that it is the U.S. constitution and the rights of the people who are citizens of the U.S. which come first in their loyalty--
however *they* have found themselves embroiled.
It is a 'from this day forward' situation.
I honor these young people--
and you have my prayers, soldier. I know you are an agnostic, and I respect that--
but you still have my prayers.

I understand your frustration with the recent events, but is it really the Oath Keeper's responsibility?
Shouldn't there be OTHER voices speaking out on this?
Why drag that in here? It is completely unrelated.
We are trying to support some guys in Afghanistan who are thirsty for knowledge, and are willing to try and wake their brothers in arms up.
It is kind of like running into a Rotary Club meeting and screaming, "Where is the outrage on Gaza??"

and it's our militaries job to speak up as well. Matter of fact, there should be tanks surrounding DC and a stop to all plane traffic leaving the US until all of these criminal bastards are rounded up and tried ( all of the Israel ass kissers and their ass kissin' leader ) too.

But you can't have your little DC scenario without waking them up FIRST.
That is what we are working on here.

Let me give you an analogy.

Well I'm doing the best I can with what I have.
On TOP of trying to remain employed, and keep others employed, paying outrageous taxes,IRS bills, medical bills, insurance, mortgage, food, arsenal, survival, etc. I'm supposed to save the country. OK. Let me just write that into my F'ing day planner.
Instead of coming in here and waving your arms wildly, where some are trying to take action, why don't YOU grab a bucket of water and help out?
Why don't YOU WRITE the Oathkeepers and ASK THEM instead of coming in this thread and behaving irrationally.

There has been a strange silence ( continual ) from OK...it is concerning and is starting to smell funny. If there is a genuine movement behind OK...real vets and patriots...where are they...why are they silent ?

I realize what the thread title says, but if you dig a little deeper, there is much more going on than just promoting O.K.
I have managed to put Ron (onedollardvdproject.com) in touch with another soldier in Afghanistan. If you look at Ron's site you will see that he is offering SO MUCH MORE information than just promoting Oath Keepers.
He has sent a package to him that is getting good response, and helping to wake the other soldiers up. He is doing this at his own risk, and Ron, so far, is doing this at his OWN expense because everyone is too cheap, lazy, or preoccupied to pitch in for the effort. I mean 1 freakin dollar for a DVD?!? How cheap can it get?
Then YOU come in bitching because you don't think O.K. is doing enough.
Well, I am not a spokesman for O.K. No one in this thread is. I have no affiliation with them whatsoever. I'm sorry you have gotten no response from them. I personally have not waited for word from HQ. I am going to the sound of the guns, and taking whatever ACTION I am capable of.
We are trying to bear some fruit in a different manner, and it is not just promoting O.K.
I hope you understand the bigger picture here.

I hope others will get on board. People (myself included) get caught up in all of these philosophical discussions, and they don't always see the call to action.
These DVD packages don't just have to go to Afghanistan. They can go to the local Sheriff. They can go to many that will be faced with the decision of having to trample on, or stand up for people's rights if the time comes.
Many Service members go into law enforcement when they get out, as that is all they think they can do.
What a dilemma it must be to be told that you are fighting for our freedoms in another land, and then come back to the states and trample on them as a LEO.
This last comment was not meant to be an attack, just an observation. I could be wrong.

Would you be able to get Rise of the Republic on DVD? I've heard good things about that one. Send over whatever next group of DVDs you think will help open even more eyes. I'll also make sure my guy in Kandahar gets them as well. I'm still working on getting a contact at Bahgram.
Everything you're doing to help is great and I'll be trying to push for maybe a public screening at the USO. We'll see if that every flies!

I was woken up from this dream land by Dr Ron Paul. If you think I'm a walking contradiction, then perhaps everyone here who's had a change of heart is too. I suppose you were born into this world as a Constitutionalist but apparently, I wasn't as blessed as you.
And I did consider fighting my deployment orders. I was given advice from the lawyer (the one who defended several other Courage to Resisters) that I'd end up in the brig for up to 12 months. I have two young children. They came first.
