Rand and Ron - TIME
Submitted by sharpsteve on Thu, 05/27/2010 - 09:18Rand may be the talk of Washington at the moment, but his meek-mannered 74-year-old father Ron is in many ways the improbable godfather of the Tea Party movement. In a GOP lacking for compelling leaders, he may be the man with the most potential influence as the 2012 campaign approaches.
Ron Paul's 2008 presidential campaign, with its message of limited government and its anti-Establishment ethos, created a kind of do-it-yourself model for the current activism shaking up politics around the country. The Paul campaign even inspired the first modern-day tea party that anyone can remember: a December 2007 antitax protest re-enacting the original Boston Tea Party on its 234th anniversary. (On that same day, Paul's fervent supporters raised an astounding $6 million online, a single-day record.) The message then, as now, was a revolt against government taxes and spending and what his supporters called "tyranny." "Dr. Paul was pushing for fiscal responsibility and limited government long before the Tea Party moniker was slapped on it," says John O'Hara, author of the book A New American Tea Party.

funny
that the "god-father of the tea parties" didn't make it to their top 100 most influential list. just nudged out by lady gaga, i'm sure...
He didn't?
Geez, where have I been...I thought he did.
Anyway, this is the best article I have ever read in mainstream journalism about Ron Paul and the Revolution and its ideologically messy offshoot, the Tea Party Movement.
Time says, "In a testament to how the world has shifted around Paul, in May the Senate passed a Fed audit provision. Unanimously. When Paul released a book last fall exposing the Fed's practices (End the Fed), it became a best seller." :)
Many thanks for posting this. Everyone should read it.
Yeah, and Ron Paul was #18 in
Yeah, and Ron Paul was #18 in the actual poll when they ended it. He was one of only two politicians in the top 20, Ron Paul & Obama. Obama had a much lower influence on the scale of 1-100. RP was in the 90s & Obama was in the 70s. Also, RP was ranked higher than Obama by 1 or 2 positions.

Wow. That is a totally amazing
article from Time, of all sources.
Dynamite story!
Is Time Magazine finally trying to be relevant in its advancing decrepitude?
New Hampshire and Ecuador.
Great article
I'm completely surprised! TIME magazine is one of the big dogs of the MSM when it comes to publishing biased opinions. However, the author of this article kept it classy and objective, highlighting the philosophic ideals of the Pauls, rather than focus on the emotional wedge issues.
I'm kinda shocked.
