Troops, Tanks, Rifles, Hummers and road blocks in Los Angeles, CA--2 mi. fr/Dodger Stadium!Submitted by yogmama on Sun, 05/30/2010 - 13:53
While driving down the road yesterday in an area known as Glassell Park, about 2 miles northeast of Dodger Stadium, I came upon a detour. There were road blocks and military troops in full-on combat gear doing who knows what in the middle of a residential neighborhood. From a distance I could only see the shape of a few people dressed in uniform standing behind roads blocks w/a couple of hummers and a tank behind them. They road-blocked and enclosed an area of a few blocks (I don't know how many to be exact) but I do know this: They made sure people couldn't get into their secured area. I don't know whether they were letting the people who were enclosed out. All of this shocked me because, knowing the composition of that particular area I knew that several homes and families were enclosed, including a Catholic church and the little grammar school attached to it. There is also a small library for the residents of the community there, it too, within the blocked area. I didn't see any police, and I found that to be curious.
I saw all of this while detouring and only in passing, I didn't stop to observe more. I wish I would have had a camera w/me, but I didn't. Now I realize the importance of carrying one w/me at all times. The sight of seeing those streets blocked off was chilling. I didn't stay to observe more because it was so creepy. What I observed happened at about 11:30 am. Their presence there covered a time span of somewhere between sunrise, and as I discovered later, 12 noon.
I remember reading that either last weekend, or the weekend before, that there was a military drill assisted by the Long Beach police and LB fire department on Shoreline Drive in Long Beach, CA which is maybe 20 miles or so from where this event took place yesterday.
Last night I decided to go to a market that is about a mile up from the neighborhood streets that appeared to have been "taken over" by the military. While standing in the checkout line I heard some men asking each other if they knew why the military had been there in their neighborhood earlier that day. None knew why; but they were really excited about the fact that the tanks (I only saw one) were "really something!" I didn't hear them say this next quote, but the young lady that I was with at the market said she heard one of them ask the others, "Did you guys see how the soldiers were holding their guns? They were holding them like this," wherein the one guy asking the question made a gesture as if he were holding a rifle in front of him with both hands, and holding it so that the rifle was pointing towards the sky, according to the young lady's observations of him. I didn't hear or see that because I was paying for my stuff, but she says she did see and hear it.
I don't like this one bit--people seemly getting turned on by seeing the military in streets w/their weapons in hand blocking off parts of their community! I am going to try to get more info about what happened yesterday and to whom it happened, and when I do I will post that info here.
