Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King’s discharge petition, aimed at repealing Obamacare, is gaining momentum in the House as more representatives sign on.

Today Rep. Tom Price, Georgia Republican and chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) is circulating a request that members support the petition. To date 74 representatives [104 co-sponsors now listed at Thomas link below]— all Republicans — have affixed their names to the document which, if a majority sign, would force House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to bring King’s bill, H.R. 4972 “To repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” to the floor for an up-or-down vote. If a majority sign the petition it is likely that King’s bill will pass, as those who sign will vote for his repeal.

King is urging the 34 Democrats who voted against the health-care legislation to sign onto the petition. He was enthusiastic about the support his motion has received.

“I am optimistic that we will be able to attract the 218 signatures we will need to force a vote on repealing ‘Obamacare.’ The past week has seen significant momentum building for repeal,” King said. “Signatures on the discharge petition have come more quickly than I had expected. This has been partly due to a large number of co-sponsors on the repeal bill, but it also demonstrates the effectiveness of the efforts of the Heritage Action Team and a boost from the Club for Growth. I have asked for a national cooperative effort by all organizations interested in restoring liberty by repealing ‘Obamacare.’”

I think it's time we start making flyers.

this is a big one - we need to end this thing now. That bill included special taxes on coinage and more than we can probably imagine. Lets get it repealed. Dr. Paul signed onto it and that's enough for me to get energized, even though he didn't write the bill.

Now 102 co-sponsors

We need more.

Another one signed on making 102 co-sponsors.

How many more before the November election?

I am hoping that after the

I am hoping that after the November elections, there will be a whole lot more co-sponsors.

Greg, That is the hope, unless the people that voted....

for this bill want to be re-elected, change their minds, and their constituents believe them. I would not believe them because they could just as easily change their minds again.

WI state health care shortfall could reach $850M

State health care shortfall could reach $850 million

Madison — In spite of a recent round of cost cutting, the potential shortfall in the state's health-care programs for the poor, elderly and disabled has grown to as much as $850 million in state and federal money, threatening to throw the entire state budget out of balance.

State Health Services Secretary Karen Timberlake told lawmakers of the expanding deficit as they approved a sweeping audit Wednesday of the state's Family Care program. Republicans have questioned the financial sustainability of that program, which provides long-term care to the elderly and those with physical and developmental disabilities.

Timberlake last year was directed to find $600 million in savings for Medicaid, which provides health care to the poor, elderly and disabled and which includes the Family Care program. But Timberlake said Wednesday that the recession has opened up a new shortfall on top of those cuts because of diminished revenue and a flood of newly unemployed workers seeking health coverage.

Depending on how the new shortfall is handled, it could amount to about $300 million, or a fraction of the total potential deficit, for the state to resolve.

Sen. Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay) said Medicaid programs had "incredible cost overruns" that have to be dealt with by finding efficiencies and possibly tougher measures.

"One option is to cut various rates (paid to providers), cut benefits," he said. "Is that painful? Yes."

But Sen. Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) said legislators need to keep in mind that people are in great need of services as they lose health insurance when they are laid off.

"People signed up for Medicaid because they have a need," he said. "The choice is do we abandon them or do we acknowledge our obligation to help them?"

Getting rid of Obamacare is easy

Congress just needs to launch an investigation into Obama's qualification to be president and ALL of Obama's idiotic policies go away and are unwound.

ATLANTA — Embarrassed. Ashamed. Failure.

These words don’t typically describe an accomplished doctor, but Martha Boone doesn’t fit the mold. The Atlanta urologist is an outspoken critic of Obamacare, warning her patients about its disastrous consequences and alerting fellow doctors to the ramifications for her profession.

Lately, however, she’s spent more time worried about the survival of her own practice. With the new health care law about to add more patients to government-run insurance programs, Boone wondered how she would survive with dwindling Medicare reimbursements to cover her older patients.

Because many doctors double as small businessmen, they face the reality of meeting a bottom line in addition to treating patients. Boone figured she had three options: lay off her office manager, drop patients who rely on Medicare or relocate her office.

She didn’t like her options, but didn’t have much of a choice. After months of agonizing over the decision, Boone this month moved her practice to a less expensive office in an older building. It was hardly the ideal outcome, but it allowed her to keep her staff intact and continue treating her Medicare patients.

Too Late to Close the Gate?

Email from a CPA, MBA and well connected businessman:

"It (ObamaCare) HAS been implemented. You will probably not hear them talk much about the hiring and training of new IRS auditors but it is happening NOW. I will be at the home of one of the long time trainers for IRS who is part of our ASTD chapter. At our May Veterans Job and Career Fair, the IRS was actively recruiting."

Keep those letters and phone

Keep those letters and phone calls coming in! I was never for Ron's bill, because there is just tooooo much other crap in that bill (i.e. Section 203 which no one EVER discusses) to just take the 'mandatory' part out. The whole thing is a total assault on our privacy and freedom.

8 more in Congress sign on for Obamacare repeal

'Pulled out by the roots' plan now has support from 133

They are U.S. Reps. Jo Ann Emerson of Missouri, Frank Wolf of Virginia, George Radanovich of California, Steve Austria of Ohio, Greg Walden of Oregon, Frank D. Lucas of Oklahoma, Adrian Smith of Nebraska and Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska, and they are the latest members of Congress to sign on to a plan to repeal Obamacare.

Its goal is to "pull out by the roots" the legislation that, among other things, will require citizens to provide their "Body Mass Index" rating to the government and purchase "government-approved" health insurance whether they want it or not.

There now are 133.

Thanks elviejo. The Thomas website is still showing only 95..

co-sponsors of this bill.

I'll see what happens over next several days, checking for updated numbers.

WND is usually a good source of advanced info.

Thanks for this story.

This is hopeful news. I believe it is now up to 2:1 against Obamacare, but it is too late for opinions. The only way to undo the bill is to repeal it.

218 is the magic number. 218

218 is the magic number. 218 members of the House is all that is needed to cut off ALL funds the Obamacare. And that is what we should be looking for after the 2010 election. The first step in removing communist programs is to defund them with a simple majority in the House of Representatives.

"removing communist programs," I like that phrase.

This bill would be a step in the right direction back from the present tyranny.

4 new co-sponsors: Now 95 on repealing Obamacare

I wrote a letter to Denny Rehberg (MT) yesterday. Is it probably just a coincidence that he just signed on.

..BUT..maybe not! :)

..BUT..maybe not! :)

Crickett, Rehberg maybe one of our DP 'visiters!'

Thanks, but I don't know if I have that kind of "Macht!"

Why is it that this bill only

Why is it that this bill only needs a majority of the House to cosponsor (218 cosponsors) to force Pelosi to take the bill to the floor for an up and down vote? HR 1207 gathered over 300 cosponsors yet it was never sent to the floor for an up and down vote.

those who cosponsored 1207 didn't sign the discharge petition

they are two different things. ron paul never wrote a discharge petition. he didn't think that the Democrats would sign it, even if they cosponsored the bill itself.

signing a discharge petition is basically slapping the leaders of house in the face, so democrats would have been reluctant to do it.

Steve King is MY Congressman

Iowa 5th District.

Now you see why I have a "King for Congress" magnet along with a "Don't Blame Me I Voted For Ron Paul" sticker on my car.

******************************
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive."

spacehabitats, King is great on this issue....

meeting power with power.

Where does he stand on other issues?

King voted: Yes on FISA....

King voted:

Yes on FISA....

Yes on H.R. 1955 [110th]: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007....

Yes on H.R. 3199 [109th]: USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005.

But he did vote No on H R 1424 Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, and No on H.R. 1: American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

King just has contempt for the First and Fourth Amendments. He's better on spending than on protecting the rights of the American people.

Realdeal, He sounds like Grayson of FL...

or Kucinich of OH....Great on one issue, but miserable on the rest. Another one-trick pony, but still o.k. to back him on this and repeal this collectivist HC bill from hell.

Thanks for this additional info.

same question and comment

ha...Steve MT you beat me to my question
