Keep the Sabbath AND donate!

If you observe Sunday as the Sabbath, you (like I) may be very reluctant to handle money (donate) to the Tea Party on Sunday, Dec. 16. I posted a blog on this topic some days earlier and a response suggested a creative solution: When it's midnight on the East Coast (where, apparently, the counter for Ron Paul campaign donations is located) it's still 11pm SATURDAY in the Central Time Zone (where I live), 10pm in the Mountain states, 9 pm on the West Coast, etc. So, at 11:05pm tonight, I'm going to hit the "Donate" button on RonPaul2008.com. Problem solved--unless you live in the Eastern Time Zone, in which case your conscience will have to be your guide.
If Sabbath-observing donors across the continent from the Central Time Zone westward observe this simple procedure: donate between 11pm and midnight your local time, it'll have several other benefits besides honoring the Commandment from Mount Sinai. The servers at Ron Paul HQ won't be so overloaded later on Sunday and perhaps crash---and wouldn't be it be nifty if the MSM commentators would discover over their breakfast coffee to their blank amazement that Ron Paul had hauled in millions of dollars BEFORE THEY EVEN GOT OUT OF BED!
Talk about jaws dropping!
Honor the Sabbath Day and keep it holy--we need God's help more than ANYTHING else--even favorable media coverage.

Historically First day of the week is "the Lord's day"

There is a lot of confussion in many circles about the Sabbath and which day it is, beyond whether it is still in effect. Historically until very recent times in Christian as well as American history people observed a day of rest and united as a body in worship on the first day of the week. The issues to be decided upon are what was the sabbath? Is it still a law of God for people? And, has there been a change of day from the last day to the first day?

If one believes the bible then we read that the Sabbath was made for man. It was made for man in a perfect state before the fall and flood. It was made to save us from bondage and not to put us under bondage. A certain dependable day of rest from works not of necessity is good for the body and gives hope to the poor and freedom to the oppressed. It also makes united worship more frequent and prosperous.

If its purpose was based upon man's need and nothing has set it aside then it still stands as law. If it was to honor the day of creation, and the Lord of the Sabbath changed the day and the focus for the Christian people, then we may just have "the Lord's Day" as we find in the New Testament and Christian history to this day. The first celebration was about the completion of the first creation, the second was a greater work of the new creation: a new more glorious work of God. As the early Christians were mostly Jews there was a transition period until where many of these kept the old day as well as the new day as we see in the bible. The new day set Christians apart from that which was fulfilled in Old Testament law and from people who did not recognize Jesus as the Messiah. It was claimed that Jesus represented the passover meaning in his death and resurrection. And he appeared on the first day of the week when they came together to break the bread and drink in remembrance. Christian and secular history show that Christians continued the Sabbath on a new day. In the same way baptism replaced circumcision while retaining similar meaning.

I can understand people being confussed on these subjects because it has been a good 20 years or more since modern cultures and churches began to abandon these practices. I have many books on the subject, some of which I publish. One shows the history of US laws pertaining to the Sabbath. Most people today are totally ignorant of US and ancient history in these kinds of matters. For those who wish to see a fuller presentation on the subject see the following article on the 4th commandment:

I commend the guy who started this thread as he is trying to urge us to live according to our consciences. Those who attack him or others contradict the philosophy and practice of Ron Paul. We must live according to principle, consistently. Yes we can be mistaken and need to examine our principles. But we must not prejudice ourselves or condemn ourselves by contradicting the light we have.

If you observe Sunday as the Sabbath

or any day as the Sabbath, and you consider yourself a Christian, may I strongly suggest you read the book of Galatians. No, not a commentary on Galatians, nor a message from your minister. Just read the words plain and simple. The apostle Paul fears for your salvation.

If, on the other hand, you take a day off each Sunday because you enjoy the rest and you've rightfully discerned that it is good for your health to rest for a day and focus on relaxation (a focus on worship should define every day), then ignore this post. You'll participate in the Tea Party because the effort required to donate will hardly jeopardize your health and it will most certainly improve the outlook for your liberty.

Sabbath made for man, not man for the sabbath... regardless...

... pray this prayer everyday:

Dear God,

I am not sure if you care much about the primary in Iowa, but the Huckabee supporters would argue that you have “a horse in the race” and that obliges you to disregard the petitions that we utter on behalf of Dr. Ron Paul. Some may say that the last time a Baptist occupied the White House you meant it to punish us for our sins. If that’s the case, we will understand if Rev. Huckabee steals (pun intended) the show in Iowa, because our sins are many.

Romney supporters may argue that you have a dilemma because Mitt Romney also believes that the Bible is the Word of God. Now Lord, it gets confusing because to a man these politicians all claim undying loyalty and devotion to your Word. Dr. Paul wasn’t included in the last survey, but more on him later. He does seem to get the silent treatment from the Pharisees and Chief Priests, but the publican and sinners hear him gladly. There are even some women of ill-repute who have figuratively speaking anointed his feet with oil. We know you won’t hold that against him, because you too had a problem once with the establishment, but you spoke kindly of the prostitutes and tax collectors. We might as well be honest here. Dr. Paul doesn’t mind tax collectors, but he sure has a problem with their bad habits.

I'm sorry, Lord, I’m digressing as always. To stress that Huckabee is the only Christian horse in the race and thereby prejudice Romney’s chances of any consideration from on high, his supporters would point to the fact that the Bible specifically excludes any appendices or updates to the Book of Revelation, and thereby question Romney’s resolve. While the Baptists and Mormons duke it out, we would ask that you do a miracle for us. Dr. Paul does not wear his religion on his sleeve (nor does Mr. Romney, to his credit), and so, but for the fact that you are omniscient, you might not even know that Dr. Paul is in the race.

Here’s my prayer, Lord, for the most part, the people in Iowa follow the council of the chief priests and the temple guard when it comes to casting their votes in a primary. This really puts our man, Dr. Ron Paul, at a huge disadvantage. Nothing short of a miracle will pull him through in Iowa. I know you specialize in miracles, although the kind of miracle I’m asking for will not go down well among the religious establishment in Iowa. However, I also know that you do at times put down the mighty and exalt those of low degree. Please, do it for Dr. Paul in Iowa.

Are there Christians who do not buy or sell on Sunday? I am a Messianic Jew who observes Sabbath as the Jews do, and of course, no buying or selling on Shabbat. I didn't realize that there were Christians who observe Sunday that do not buy or sell on Sunday. My wife works at a Deli on Sundays and when the local morning Church service is over, the members of the Church usually go there to eat and my mother who attends a different Sunday denomination always goes out for lunch after the service there. Anyway, I guess its true: you learn something new everyday...

Patriotman:
Yes, there are quite a few of us---that's why I posted my original blog: to help Sabbath (okay Sunday Sabbath)-observant Christians see a creative way to donate to Dr. Paul without violating their religious beliefs. If the Tea Party were on Friday, I'd address Moslems. On Saturday--YOU and Seventh-day Adventists and Jews. But it's not--by happenstance Dec. 16, 2007 is a Sunday.
Why don't you know about us? Well, maybe because you DON'T see us at the deli (or any other place of commerce) after church on Sunday!
Shalom.

Chariots Of Fire: When Ron Paul Runs. I feel His Pleasure

Eric Liddell: "You came to see a race today. To see Ron Paul win. It happened to be him. But I want you to do more than just watch a race. I want you to take part in it. I want to compare faith to running in a race. It's hard. It requires concentration of will, energy of soul. You experience elation when the winner breaks the tape - especially if you've got liberty at stake."

Sam Mussabin: "Yeah, Huckabees's fast! But he won't go any faster. He's a gut runner, digs deep! But a short sprint is run on nerves. It's tailor-made for neurotics."

Donate to keep freedom of religion

I believe it is important to support Ron Paul to ensure our freedom of religion. That means, worshiping and keeping the day of our choice. Remember all of the Sunday laws? Well a large part of the world has them. It's ok if that is what you believe but don't tell me I have to do that and can't keep Saturday (or Friday, if you are a Moslem).

So, be sure to donate on Sunday to support freedom of religion!

Please READ a post all the way through before hitting the Reply button. NOBODY is telling you what day to observe as the Sabbath--or even whether you have to observe a Sabbath at all! It's addressed to people like me who have moral qualms about money dealings on the Sunday (OUR Sabbath)--and proposing a creative way they can still donate without violating their conscience. I'm trying to HELP the Tea Party, not get into theological (or anti-theological) bickering. Besides, the post also mentions a number of non-theological benefits to donating between midnight and 3am EST.
Peace be up you (and all the religious freedom you can stand).

Salt-of-the-earth, please forgive

Salt-of-the-earth, I didn't mean to offend in any way. What I was trying to say was that we are blessed to have a man like Ron Paul who celebrates with us the freedom to worship on whatever day we feel convicted about. I wasn't trying to put you or your practice down at all. I was just pointing out that there are laws like that and we, as free citizens, should be supporting someone who would not legislate religion.

Please forgive me if I offended you.
God bless

42] And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
[43] And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
[44] And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
[45] Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
[46] This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
[47] And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.
[48] And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
[49] And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
[50] So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
[51] Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

Read the post

Apparently you didn't read the first sentence of my post. I wrote "IF you observe Sunday as the Sabbath..." If Saturday is your Sabbath, great. This is no place for theological quibbling--besides the calendar in effect in 4000BC doesn't correlate at all with any modern calendar, so who knows which day of the week was REALLY the original Sabbath? I'm just saying BE TRUE to your belief in God and whatever religion you profess; don't violate your personal allegiance to God even for so worthy a cause as Dr. Paul. Then I tried to present a positive, creative solution for those of you who DO believe that Sunday is the Sabbath and not a day for money-changing. And to those of you who talk about pulling cars out of ditches on the Sabbath--yes, Christ DID permit EMERGENCY labor to prevent harm to life on the Sabbath. If my neighbor's house caught fire on Sunday, I'd be there manning the hoses, too. But as the saying goes, "It may be okay to pull your ox out of the mire on the Sabbath, but don't push him in the day before!" :-)

Different Perspective.

In Exodus, God commands the Israelites to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy- God prohibits any work to be done on that day, and also prohibits one's family and servants from doing work - (nor your son, daughter, servant, cattle, sojourners, etc... ) on account of the truth that the LORD created the heavens and the earth in 6 days and rested on the seventh.

The same commandment is repeated in Deuteronomy, but Moses gives a different reason - the work of ones family & servants is prohibited, because, Moses (thru inspiration) says, because you yourselves were slaves in Egypt and the LORD brought you out by a mighty hand and outstretched arm -

2 Observations -

1. Not only are Israelite-head-of-households prohibited to work, but so are their families, servants, even animals... I think the reason of this is so that nobody says "Oh I'll keep the Sabbath, but I'll make my servant go out into the field and work." in doing so, the person may not be doing the work, but their thoughts and hearts are still occupied with themselves, their gain, their prosperity, their business, their lack of faith that God will always provide...

2. Two meditative principles emerge from the prohibition of the Sabbath:
a. God created in 6 days, rested the 7th; ordained it for you as a day of rest.
b. You were slaves in Egypt, God brought you out, Don't take advantage of your own servants.

The Sabbath is saturated with MERCY. What a merciful God to consider our necessary rest in the pattern of creation. What a merciful God - upon your employees and servants - to restrict anyone from taking advantage of them by advancing their own prosperity, faithlessly, on the backs of hirelings and servants 7 days a week. Jesus (Y'shua) rights says that the Sabbath is ordained for Mercy...

In my personal life, I try to avoid retail transactions on Sunday - but can i suggest that our support of Dr. Paul can have the longterm consequence of MERCY on our neighbor, our family, our entire country... Therefore, I'd say donating to the teaparty is harmonious w/ the principles of the Sabbath - therein do you acknowledge God as Creator (all men... created equal, endowed by our Creator with certain rights...) and therein do you strive for a political mercy upon all Americans.

Vijay.

If your car falls into a ditch on the Sabbath, will you not pay the tow truck to help you get it out? There is nothing wrong with doing good on the Sabbath. Donkeys in wells, cars in ditches, rescuing your nation from tyranny....

In the spirit of Romans 8, I respect your right not to handle money on Sunday. I just wanted to present this angle for the sake of those of us who will be giving on Sunday. Bless you for supporting Ron Paul no matter which day you give on!

Jesus is my Lord and my God, and Ron Paul, champion of all things freedom, including religion and the free exercise thereof, is my choice for president.

Theologian Wannabee Huck says to go ahead and donate.

After 4.5 seconds of reflection and prayer, Mike Huckabee declared that in his expert Theological Opine it is ok to donate on the Sabbath. He would prefer however that you give money directly to God by way of Mike Huckabee, and, ignore that guy talking about peace, friendship and honesty.

My church collects money on Sunday.

So, it is okay to giv e money to good causes on Sunday. Paul needs our money so he can save lives from deaths in unholy wars. I think God would encourage you to give all you can to Paul, regardless of the day of the week.
