Must Listen: Matt Simmons on King World News
Submitted by Michael Nystrom on Wed, 07/21/2010 - 12:02This interview was posted earlier this week, but I didn't get to listen to it until today.
Whistleblowers have been contacting Matt Simmons. These are a few of the bombshells from his interview...
Matt Simmons: "If it were my family I would evacuate now, while you still have time."
Matt Simmons: "It could be one of the greatest losses of life we've certainly ever had from a natural non-war disaster."
Matt Simmons: "They've stopped the riser leak."
Eric King: "Is that the real leak?"
Matt Simmons: "Is that relevant, no. No, that's a leak, the others a gusher...I'm not sure a trillion dollars will clean up the gulf..."
If you're keeping up on the BP disaster, this is a must listen:

well they all know and don't care ..
matt is coming off as a late night crack pot.. bad.. sad... bad .. he had some great crediblity once upon a time .. not now..
Where's that gusher?
Matt Simmons says that the Macondo well is not the problem, they've stopped the leak, and adds "that's a leak...the other's a gusher"
What is that other "gusher" he's talking about, supposedly miles from the blowout site? Why are we not seeing more oil from it?
Interesting to hear this again several weeks after the interview... wonder if any opinion's of Matt Simmons have changed now?
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
jeez BugMan
think many are interested in facts (rather than hyperbole or mindless fear-mongering speculation)???
fyi: do not know if Zak is aware, but Rig Zone has job listings
noted the nola.com piece this morning re DAILY delivery via Mississippi (and other rivers/streams) into GoM of chemical loads of surfactant (not to mention other pharmaceutical and household product chems and herbicides, pesticides etc)
equal to the reported TOTAL load of corexit employed....
granted, nobody (who is reponsibile) claims to know much about the long term ecological/environmental impact to the GoM re the oil/corexit mix (and I surely do not trust the EPA "finding")....
but that said: no one is posting that flip side of that coin either
cee cee
Hmmm... crickets is all I hear....
I guess Matt Simmons aint lookin' so good right now, nor is Lindsey Williams.
Where's the "gusher"??? Where's that tsunami?
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
Transocean Transocean Transocean
anybody keeping up with the Kenner hearings?
the TO Captain and OIM already in a world of hurt....
prior to the testimony of the last two days and the third party expert testimony....
thinking if we see criminal charges...they may rightly be levied against the TO crew/management
remember: TO ran right into court in Houston to try to have THEIR liability limited (under maritime law)...
usually the true "bad guy" shows himself by seeking cover....
not to say all the liability/responsibility does not reside with BP given the "deal terms"
imho...the Kenner hearings are the "real deal" while the DC hearings (and doings) are the usual "meaningless dog and pony show for the masses"
cee cee
where's the best source?
is in on CSPAN or internet somewhere?
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
nola.com
is a good source replete with overview archives of the hearing proceedings

Yes, I was just going to post it!
I don't like to comment /support the Matt Simmons threads...because I believe ( as I have said before) the cheese HAS slipped off his cracker!
I'll post the story from Kenner on a new post.
I'm sure BP, Haliburton and Transocean will all have charges.

Excellent reading there, thanks cee cee!
This guy (Robert Rapier) knows his shit, and is qualified to make the statements he makes. I'm convinced now more than ever that Simmons is a lunatic. What his agenda is, other than being an attention whore, I don't know.
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
lunatic maybe, but CFR member for sure
Simmons is a CFR member. Maybe not top-echelon scum, but ANY member of the CFR automatically get skepticism by me. Period.
Crime in broad daylight?
Isn't what Matt Simmons is doing, oh, I don't know..., a crime? By spreading public panic in order to drive down stock values, isn't he engaging in a very public act of investor fraud?
Or is it [at this moment] legal because his accusations have not yet been disproven?
"Cowards & idiots can come along for the ride but they gotta sit in the back seat!"
not the only one spreading theoretical panic
thinking Simmons is NOT working alone
as his efforts further someone's agenda
beyond market plays
that said: Simmons & Co. was VERY careful to send out a letter a while back disavowing Matt's comments and hyperbole....a CYA ????
predict that decades from now: folks will be studying this disaster to assess whether the permanent regional damage was caused by the wild well gusher, and/or the mandated clean up efforts/methods, AND/OR "reporters" and "bloggers" (well intended or otherwise)
cee cee
and WOW... did you know...
that a hurricane could bring up the water/oil from 4500' below the surface of the water???? I sure didn't, but that's what Simmons says.
And when drilling in the vicinity of H2S in the Gulf, you DON'T wear a mask around your neck. You do have a respirator nearby, but not around your neck. More of his BS. I've worked on multiple wells where H2S was a possibility.
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
three questions...
if there's so much methane, why are the guys on the rigs drilling the relief wells, and other personnel out there not getting sick? That would be where the concentration is the highest.
If there is such a big lake of oil down there near the bottom that the research vessels saw, where are the pictures and/or video? Surely they have a camera on the ROV that they used.
If this is all BP's fault as Simmons says, does that mean that BP is responsible for maintaining Transocean's equipment, as in the BOP? I'll answer this one... NO! BP made decisions, albeit bad ones, based upon the assumption that the BOP was functional. Not only was it not completely functional to begin with, it was damaged by Transocean personnel before the disaster.
Matt Simmons is 2nd only to Lindsey Williams on the BullShit meter. Can't believe this is on the front page, or that MN is falling for this crap.
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
Piracy! Cannibalism! and BP!
Oh, I forgot to add Plundocracy. What a better way to secure a vast personal fortune in the midst of a terrible disaster than trash-talk a rich corporation until its stock tumbles. BP certainly deserves it, mind you. But according to Barron’s Weekly [as reported in Free Republic],
“Simmons has a 4,000-share short sale on BP that he picked up when the stock hit $37. That’s in addition to a prior 4,000-share short sale he made at $48 a couple weeks prior. “It’s going to zero,” he says of BP stock. Mind you, Simmons has an interest and a deep investment in moving beyond fossil fuels.”
"The Barron’s article went on to note that Simmon’s Ocean Energy Institute, a renewable energy think-tank and venture capital fund he started in 2007, is involved in a project to develop off-shore wind power facilities and other alternative energies.
"If Barron’s assertion is true, it would appear that Simmons, an energy industry veteran and expert, could have had a serious conflict of interest when he went onto so many TV and magazine interviews talking his book about BP and the Gulf oil spill."
Right.
Matt Simmons clearly took a cue from Geithner and his Wall Street buddies when they put Bear-Stearns on the chopping block and cannibalised them, trash-talking Bear for a week until a $2 million short gave some anonymous gambler a cool $200 million in return.
Hey, it caused a financial meltdown a few weeks later but hey, ya can't make an omelete without breaking heads, I mean, eggs.
"Cowards & idiots can come along for the ride but they gotta sit in the back seat!"
Midnight
Peek through the door
It seems as though the grass was much greener before
The dead life has been washed upon the seashore
Money and greed diluted what is truly pure
Yet our flesh keeps reaching out for more
Now your trapped
A hole in the ozone about to make the world collapse
Pollution fills the air and minds are full of twisted facts
Midnight is now upon us, people's righteous laws are coming back
Don't turn your head away cus you can't get away
Your mind is lost because your spirit has been let astray
Don't ever say you gave it all if you ain't gave it all
Just faded in the hazy purple twilight
No more time, I tried to warn you all
It's now approaching midnight

Matt Simmons wouldn't possibly
have an agenda? Nah never.

The Ocean Energy Institute is...
* A think-tank creating collaborative R&D teams for ocean energy projects
* A venture capital fund to seed commercialized ocean energy ventures
* A gathering place for ocean energy/ocean transportation experts to meet
* A bully pulpit to expound the benefits and help clear obstacles to make ocean energy a reality
A central resource for coordinating:
* Energy system architecture
* Offshore wind technology
* Environmental interests
* Stakeholder concerns
* Industrial partners
* Academic research
* Financial firepower
* Political factors
good find
Thanks.

agendas....gosh....so many agendas and so little time
oh my...
just when everyone was hoping we should only worry about the Fed's agenda (including BP's...as they really are one and the same)

Massive Hole Spewing Oil Miles Away From Well!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqTwrAu0suI&feature=related
certain BP hopes Simmons is correct
as same would surely get BP off the hook....
miles away would NOT be THE wild well (as the reservoir structure defines)
natural? another well? who knows....but surely someone would verify (unless "muddying" the water benefits all the players)
cee cee
oil bad
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38337393/ns/world_news-world_env...
oil bad, carbon tax good.
we are the Remnant
Matt Simmons was on Bloomberg TV earlier
He said the same thing it will cost $1 Trillion or more to clean the gulf and if there is a hurricane the whole gulf coast will have to be evacuated.
History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid.

suppose it must be so much easier
to listen to Simmons if one has no engineering, or geology, or chemistry background.....
can't quite decipher what his purpose/agenda happens to be
if the poor dear actually has one...
(or has he just gone so far out on the limb, or out of his mind, he has to stay there to finish enjoying his audience play??)
Einstein must be rolling over: "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, more violent..." or "If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts"...etc etc etc
cee cee
So then please
produce for us someone from BP who has a background in engineering, or geology, or chemistry and have him or her give us an update on what is happening in the Gulf. Can't find one? Neither can I.
think everybody at BP has been muzzled
given all the pending litigation
but thinking there are all kinds of sources re rebuttal re Simmons (and much laughing) by those who do have those background disciplines if you want to search through The Oil Drum archives....just type in Matt Simmons in search will get you there I believe...or go to any of the discussion threads via google that are industry related
and fyi: you will find that nobody quite detests BP in the way the oil patch industry folks do (given the consequences now wrought down upon all by the bad acts of a terribly irresponsible crew....who, by the way, were primarily Transocean employees)
and if you want to do no research, then just wait: time will tell whether Simmons was credible or not....
right now, I am certain he is scrambling to cover that short position
cee cee
He`s trying to drive down the property values along the GC.
I hope it works. I`ll be a buyer when his plan is complete.
