Kucinich-Paul Resolution To Pull US Military Out Of Pakistan

http://www.truth-out.org/kucinich-says-white-house-abused-it...

The five hundred million dollars in aid the US pledged to Pakistan this week is not the only backing the United States is providing the country considered an ally against terrorist elements. According to a statement by Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), the White House has increased its military commitment to Pakistan without Congressional oversight or approval. The White House's abuse of its authority, Kucinich says in his statement, "must stop." On Thursday evening, he and fellow House member Ron Paul (R-Texas) introduced a privileged resolution to pull US forces from the country. If Speaker Nancy Pelosi gives the nod, the Kucinich-Paul resolution will jump the line of items before the House next week, right before Congress breaks for its August recess.

Although American military support in Pakistan is not new, nor unreported, Kucinich's Friday statement bristles on two points - Kucinich claims that he and his peers learned about the troop upgrade via an article in The Wall Street Journal, and that the deployment is illegal according to the 1973 War Powers Resolution.

House Expected to Act Next Week on Kucinich, Paul Privileged Resolution to Remove U.S. Forces in Pakistan
H. Con. Res. 301 Cites 1973 War Powers Authorization

Washington, Jul 23, 2010

The House of Representatives is expected to act next week on a privileged resolution introduced last night by Congressmen Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Ron Paul (R-TX). The resolution directs the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove the United States Armed Forces from Pakistan.

“We have known that U.S. forces have been operating in secret inside the territories of Pakistan without Congressional approval. We recently learned from an article in the Wall Street Journal titled, ‘U.S. Forces Step Up Pakistan Presence’ that the United States is engaged in a covert strategy to increase our troops’ role there incrementally, with the goal of convincing Pakistan to be more accepting of our presence. This is a violation of the 1973 War Powers Resolution and it is our Constitutional responsibility as Members of Congress to act,” said Kucinich.

Wow... Seriously?

If your rep voted against

If your rep voted against this measure, it means that they are only for expanding the war and increasing the debt! I think this vote alone outweighs all other votes they have cast. Voting yes on this vote should be more than enough of a reason to vote AGAINST your rep in November!

Berman leading the opposition censured fellow opposition

And practically makes the case for the wisdom and reasons for having this debate! Ha!

Ooh rons up again, giving the mujahideen history lesson, Russia, wikileaks. Taliban only interested in getting rid of occupiers not coming over here, newspapers used to call them friends and freedom fighters but now they are militants and insurgents for doing what they've always done. We need to end this ridiculous policy of intervention across the world.

Dan Burton now giving the most asinine stereotypical neocon "after 911 things changed" rhetoric I've heard in a long time. What is this 2002 again??

Thank you

God Bless Ron and all peacemakers!

As of this moment, Kucinich

As of this moment, Kucinich was slamming Pakistan...

Did this just pass?!

I just flipped on span for the lulz and they happened to be voting on this... and it passed!!! 222-196 or something like that. Is this for real? Was this a final vote? I can hardly believe it. Must have been some kind "agreement to agree on voting for the commencement of voting on the bill" vote.

Does anyone know the status of the bill??

Update: ok kucinich back on talking about it, must still be going on. He's laying some smack down!

Thank you

I will be pleasantly shocked

I will be pleasantly shocked if Speaker Nancy Pelosi allows this Resolution to come to the floor.

It is encouraging that Kucinich and Ron Paul are addressing this issue in a meaningful way. I wish they would introduce legislation that would require the GAO to physically inventory US gold reserves and report their findings to the Congress.

Money paid to Pakistan and other countries to support never ending wars and our cold war relics around the world is backed by nothing. Knowing our gold reserves will put that in perspective.

If Pelosi blocked that from coming to the floor it would give her opponents a lot of ammunition to campaign on.

We have been Pakistan's suckers

We send them aid, and they don't have to pay taxes.

This money is mainly for the special interests in Pakistan. Another rip off of the American idiot suckers who want to support the world.

Congressional approval?

Don't you mean Israeli approval? The biggest lobbiest in Washington? That owns the media?
Dennis sold us out with the healthkill bill. Side issue.
These wars have got to stop. End of story.

Great post!

Very good story. But if anybody thinks Nancy will give this a nod they are mistaken. Never forget, right after Obama was elected the house DEMOCRATS brought up a bill that would require congressional approval before deploying troops. Nancy Pelosi shelved that bill and explained that her friends in Isreal asked her to kill the bill! This was reported by the good doctor himself on youtube (since been removed) and I beleive in the New York Times. Clearly treason in my opinion. She will have to check with her friends in Isreal before she makes a decision on putting this before the house next week or any other time. I don't think that Isreal will think removing troops from Packistan is in thier best intrest. End of story.

WSJ article on it. My comment:

It’s important to remember that Ron Paul voted for the initial Afghanistan invasion - just in case you hear some neo-conservative trying to imply that Ron Paul is a pacifist or something. What he opposes is what this has all become, a project in nation building.

How do you liberals feel about the fact that more so called “Tea Party” people are active in opposing the wars than any liberals I know? Funny and sad.

Good stuff here! When will

Good stuff here!

When will people see that killling people in far away countries is not a benevolent act. I don't think people wake up and say "Hey, I would love to see storm troopers roam our streets and kill our neighbors."

Raw Story picked it up

OMG it is going viral now:

http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0723/kucinich-paul-troops-pakistan/

quote:

Paul said the US military has "significantly increased" its operations in Pakistan, without providing figures.

He also noted the increased use of unmanned drone attacks in Pakistan since President Barack Obama came to office a year and a half ago.

"This increasing US military activity in Pakistan has little to do with protecting the United States and in fact is creating more enemies than it is defeating," Paul said.

"The administration, like its predecessor, is misusing language in the original post-9/11 resolution to prosecute a wider regional war and Congress is sitting quietly on the sidelines. This must stop."

Wall Street Journal picked up the story

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/07/23/kucinich-paul-pull-...

quote:

"Congressional leaders would like to avoid a debate on the U.S. presence in Pakistan. But by introducing a privileged resolution, Kucinich was able to force the House leadership to give him time on the floor along with Paul, a Texas Republican who has opposed the war in Afghanistan. The resolution would require the Obama administration to pull U.S. military trainers out of Pakistan by the end of the year."

“Look at the history of U.S. military involvement; we became enmeshed in a war against Vietnam with advisers leading the way,” Kucinich said. “Mr. Paul and I are seeking to nip in the bud an expansion of U.S. ground presence in Pakistan.”

If it was up to me, the

If it was up to me, the troops would be out of Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. They would be on OUR border, protecting OUR nation for invasion.

But my allegiance is to this nation, not the New World Order. I would work to restore Constitutional government for this nation, and not try to control the world.

And to top it off, I would like to see criminals like Hillary Clinton behind bars.

If it was up to me

I wouldn't even send the troops to these wars based on pure lies and deception. Yes, keep the troops in the US protecting the country against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

The troops should be sent to

The troops should be sent to every private Fed bank in the country. That's where the enemy is.

Then Goldman Sachs. Then the White House. The the homes of the international banking cartel members in Europe and Saudi Arabia.

I Worked For Kucinich 2004. I Don't Like Him BUT -

He is rock-solid against The United States of America Wars Of Aggression against the peoples of Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

ByGod ! I will drink to his privilege resolutions to Bring Troops HOME, Impeach g w bush, the Catastrophic President, Impeach dick cheney.

Go Ron Paul, may your impact grow exponentially!!!!
