McMahon - no surprise

WWE is a major corporation and Vince McMahon is extremely well networked within the MSM. Corporate pals pulled strings and I'm guessing wrestling fans sent in contributions as well.

Sadly, he is absolutely correct!

"Peter Schiff is a very gifted genius it was obvious he would not win because people are not interested in truth..they like to be governed by actors..the majority of people are mentally handicapped..they are stupid and they vote for mentally handicapped people to rule them ..not for geniuses"

There is "winning"--and there is Winning!!

I think in important ways, getting the message out, energising support for sound economic policies (in one of the more Corporatist and socialistic States in the USA), fundraising for a radically new and different campaign by a largely UNKNOWN candidate, and shifting the terms of debate from "how can the government help" to How do we get this archaic dinosaur of plunder, plutocracy, and bankruptcy out of our way?" we are winning!!

Like Liberty_Belle, (and probably all of the readers of the Daily Paul) I fervently wish that Schiff had "won" the nomination, and then his election to the US Senate. It was just not the time for this to happen.

The successes of the Schiff campaign, in an incredibly difficult political, media, and intellectual environment (don't forget the address of Yale University) in both getting our messages out and DISCOVERING NEW LIBERTARIANS is what offers us the opportunity of winning down the road, not only in CT, but almost everywhere!

I would rather lose a battle in a war that I know I will someday win, than win a battle in a war that I know I will someday lose!"

To the people--"mentally handicapped or not--who voted for (and campaigned for) Schiff's opponent(s), we can only remind their leaders, you can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you CAN'T fool ALL of the people ALL of the time". Their defections to our ranks is coming...

A victory (?) for Schiff--and for Liberty--If we can keep it!

The emergence of a libertarian Republican like Schiff with more than 20% of he vote in a GOP Primary from a State that just nominated a clown like McMahon for its Senate representative, and sent the likes of Joe (Never saw a war I didn't like) Lieberman or his predecessor Lowell (Spend MORE money) Weicker to that hallowed and august body!

Schiff has shown that we can succeed in getting our message out in even the most statist and collectivist political environment.

In previous elections in the People's State of Connecticutt, it is very unlikely that Mr.Schiff would have attained any ballot access at all, no matter how muhc he spent, and still less likely that he could have recieved the votes of more than 2 or 3% of the corporatist and lobbyist hacks voting at the Primary!

Schiff pulled down more than TWENTY percent!! Clearly he is on the right track, though he may have missed some opportunities here or there, We can always learn from experience!

How can we use this campaign to hit the ground running in 2012, not only for Senate in CT, but in other elective offices? How can we energise the voters and contributors to Schiff's Senate campaign to help Ron Paul restore the Constitution in future campaigns? Is there a possibility of working with neighboring New Hampshire libertaians on something like the "Free State Project"? Are there unrecognised libertarians, Constitutionalists and paleo-conservatives in Massachussetts and New York (even WORSE than Connecticutt, hard as it is to beleive) who can be reached out to? What about College and High School LIBERTARIAN/ MISESIAN student activism, for a change? Are there people who worked in the Schiff campaign who are interested in State and jury "nullification", an idea whose time has come, and is being popularized by fellow Mises Institute Scholar Tom Woods?

I think that there are ways to "hit the ground running" for the 2012 election and beyond!

Thank you, Peter Schiff, for a wonderful educational campaign!!

Now, perhaps, the real work begins...

Yes, indeed!

The message won and is out in the open to weave through the minds of everyone who heard it--and many have! It's a victory in itself and a beginning.

Thanks dk, for this very positive response.

You are right, we must look at our progress and gain be energized for the remaining fight.

Schiff was a GREAT candidate, and we will have more and mare great liberty candidates. The Republicans (and Dems) don't know what they are up against yet.

I dont think polls are closed til 8pm...

It says on Peter's website that the polls are open til 8pm

Discussion question: Did the peemptive war statements help or

hurt Peter Schiff? This issue had a huge reaction here on the DP. However, did this also affect the decision making of Connecticut voters?

True, he did not win this election, but yet Peter Schiff did get over 20% of the vote count. Some here have already said that that is a significantly encouraging result.

Or is this question an irrelevant non-issue, that did effect the result either way.

Analyzing the results of this election is important for our future candidates, and the more that is known the better for us.

Doubtful. I contribute the

Doubtful. I contribute the results towards voter ignorance and McMahon's $. Most voters are too lazy to research candidates themselves and thus relied on liberal Linda's brainwashing TV ads.

Hand Counted Paper Ballots...No voting computers

petition your legislature and sue your attorney general if necessary...THEY HAVE TO GO !!

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

Will Hardly Help Him

If the Schiff campaign were to blame it all on election fraud, I'm afraid that would do nothing but hurt Peter Schiff in the short and long term -- and be a waste of resources.

It's not about helping him.

It is about restoring our voting system to something tangible.

This needs to be done across the country, not just in CT.

Many people have lost faith in the whole process. The E-Voting machines are just a part of that.

I knew the Quinnipiac poll that showed Schiff at 15% was BS!

It was released the day before Primary Voting Day.

Any pollsters out there care to explain how the poll was wrong by 67% in the span of a single day?

What changed?

What a colossal fraud.

You don't improve your numbers by 67% in a single day.

15% of likely voters will vote for Peter Schiff +/- 65%

"15% of likely voters will vote for Peter Schiff +/- 65% says Quinnipiac,"

said another way.

or "15% of likely voters will vote for Peter Schiff +10 points, -0 points"

The answer to your question is you don't

I'm kind of speechless as for what to say that hasn't already been said ? fraud, lies, corruption, corrupted, corruptible, deceit, deception...Any new adjectives anyone else can come up with ?

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

You know what

This makes it easier for next election cycle...people will be watching Peter over the next few years.
WE WON!
Blumenthal will be hard to beat anyway, so best we cut our losses this go 'round. Watch and see!
I just saw his numbers and they are better than mcmahons. Hopefully Mcmahon will continue to throw money at it anyway.
I will make twice the amount of calls next time. Can't hardly stand the wait!

On the bright side, 23% of

On the bright side, 23% of the GOP primary vote for a candidate without immediate name recognition, means we are solidly embedded as a major voting block within the GOP.

Particularly as CT is the state, alongside New York, that benefits the most from the asset stripping on behalf of the financial industry that is the Fed, is home to a large share of the highest paid lawyers benefiting directly from over regulation, as well as of the asset managers collecting nice fees from (mis)managing public pension funds. None of which would have remained as lucrative in a Schiff world. This is, after all, the state where voters thought Chris Dodd was somehow different than a self righteous simple thief.

Also, as others have noted, BJ lost first time around, as well. And most likely McMahon will lose come November, and even if she doesn't, what use is she going to be anyway. Cluelessness might be kind of cute when everyone is too busy buying toys with home equity credit to pay much attention, but other that the welfare queens and their immediate circle of acquaintances, even in CT those days are over for at least a few decades.

Anyway, a quarter of the GOP is nothing to sneer at, in a state that is hardly a hotbed for conservative activism. That's about the same size as those Social Conservatives / moral majority / Christian Coalition groups are at nationally, although they may benefit more from their geographical concentration. So, one way or the other, the GOP is starting to need us now, and there is no reason to assume that trend will change on account of some Wrestling Barbie.

We should start pushing to

We should start pushing to have Schiff run as an independent!!!!!

By doing so, he'll offend

By doing so, he'll offend exactly the voters he needs to sway by next time.

It would be nice if some other independent would run on a Schiff like platform there, though; with enough recognition to pull a good part of the 23% Schiff pulled, plus perhaps a few voters who might agree with him, but would never vote for a Republican. When McMahon loses, it would be very nice if it was obvious that she lost because voters prefer RP's platform, not because they prefer the platform of the Democrats.

The time is now! Do you

The time is now! Do you really think if we are on the same path for another 6 years that any single election will even matter?

It will matter in 6 years.

It will matter in 6 years. Probably more than this year, as unless things change dramatically, many more people will be aware they are heading straight for ruin. Why wouldn't it?

Many "mainstream" GOP'ers would love nothing more than to paint us as "not really Republicans", but instead an unruly mob of "Libertarians" trying to "hijack" "their" party. Having candidates bounce from one party to another, just strengthens their case.

We'll never win by only getting the votes of those who are solidly in our camp on all issues. We also need to appeal to the mass of people who aren't all that involved, but who kind of feel that something is not quite right. But in those people's minds, elections are between Ds and Rs, with the various independents simply being kooks and extremists.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to demonstrate conclusively to GOP leadership and strategists that their electoral fortunes in the future are largely determined by us same kooks and extremists, however.

The bigger problem

Low voter turnout in a contested race to replace Chris Dodd. In this time of great discontent amongst Americans due to the current economic malaise that we are in, a voter turnout of around 20 percent is not encouraging for the general election. Obviously the republicans did not field candidates that excited the electorate in Connecticut.

Best Wishes to Peter Schiff. Thank you for your candidacy. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best to Peter

He's an amazing candidate. Peter should feel very proud of his work and efforts. Like Rockwell says, it'll be nice to see him back in the productive sector.

Lew Rockwell Welcomes Peter Schiff back!

An awesome post by Lew Rockwell!

"Peter ran for the Republican nomination for US senate in Connecticut, and though he lost yesterday, he did better than expected, and ran a credible race. It will be remembered that he spoke economic truth to power. But I say: Peter, welcome back to the productive sector, where you have done so much good. I can’t wait to see you on the financial cable shows again. They have been mighty dull since you left."
