My video got shut down at the liberty summit.: Video Uploaded
Submitted by silentboom on Sat, 08/14/2010 - 13:30Update: forgive the shakiness at times, I was trying to brace my hand on the back of a chair.
Part I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4RI6OVpeSA
Part II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-_lzle1-f4
I have to run out to one of my friend's kids birthday party and I'm late but I wanted to post this quick and I will update it later and upload the 15 minutes (about half) of video of Dr. Paul's speech. I was shocked and disappointed when I was recording Dr. Paul's speech at the Campaign for Liberty "Liberty Summit" and someone (with an earpiece and a Florida CFL badge) tapped me on the shoulder and told me there was no video allowed. I couldn't believe it, I was using a camera no bigger than a cell phone, they then shut down everyone else as well, phones, someone taking pictures was approached. Is this not the campaign where nearly every video is available to us from all angles and all perspectives? Am I supposed to show my friends the video about Liberty that got forcefully ended? You had to search out the video cameras, no one was being rude at all and no one had anything more than a small personal camera. Dr. Paul was great and this has nothing to do with him, it was a pleasure to see him as usual. I know it's a private event and that's fine, they do have the right to do whatever, but we built their organization, we funded it, we spread the word....can we not spread the word anymore unless it is "officially released"? I had a donation in my pocket and I ended up holding on to it because I was upset. Please tell me this is not the direction that this is really going in. I really have to run more about this later.

Im in agreement
While I understand private property rights, a quick explanation would seem the courteous thing to do. I keep noticing a lot of odd things about the "liberty" movement that dont add up, and it astounds me that more dont see them.
Like that guy who just a little while posted about his video being taken down on here(before it was a 2nd time), and some other user claimed the OP had to lie. I'm curious where he lied? Also curious what rule he broke? I want to make sure I dont say something deemed not PC enough for Daily Paul and get banned.
I'm simply asking why, and am not sure if I'm even allowed to say the name of the guy in the video lol. Heaven knows the articulate truth in that video cant compare to things like the "party thread", or complaints of the incidents of student loans being higher(often around 3% interest) than credit card debt(often around 30% interest after being a day late once or twice), or Christopher Walken, etc. :) Sometimes you guys make this too much fun. Consider me your "Urkel".
My guess? That he mirrored much of what Dr Paul says, but also wanted to do a few things that would immediately help America, that really scares ESTABLISHMENT. On the same note, lest anyone try to insinuate lies, I'd be just as curious if a good Cynthia McKinney video had been taken down. Sometimes a person I might not agree with everything about has SOME VERY good points that I'd find interesting to see if anyone would disagree with, just because it isn't their candidate. I hope that makes sense. And the saying the guy who posted it lied, I just wanted to understand how. Thanks in advance.

That little white speck on top of
Chicken crap ls still chicken crap,DD is just a white speck on top of the pile. Most of us just don't want to be associated with the pile.Do you?
"They used to come get you and lock you up because you were insane, Now they come get you and lock you up because you are sane"
Not with the man, but maybe
Not with the man, no. But maybe with most of the ideas? I think they have merit. Most are right out of the book here, but a few go beyond and take practical steps that would help the US immediately. Not saying I agree with every single one, but change the guy's name and I think a lot of Americans would vote for him. I'd post the link that I saw before the 2nd time it got cut down, but I dont want to risk being banned and/or having my explanation deleted and being lumped into some category for stating my position, you know?
If I recall correctly, the majority of it sounded like a more well spoken and effective Ron Paul, but there were a few issues that took steps to protect American jobs that may not be libertarian(I'm not sure). And signing an executive order ending government business that operates on race or gender discrimination also sounded like something I think people would like in principle, even though the process(executive order) I guess would be a sticking point here.
Like others(including RP) have said, it's the message that's important, not the man. He doesnt threaten me, but apparently his speaking ability or proactive ideas threaten some people here to the point where they cant be discussed? I mean post 10 paragraphs mocking the man, I just was kind of eager to hear folks discuss the ideas before I saw the 2nd post was deleted too. I thought the poster was just going to be called a liar(without explanation), but that after the mockery, his post would be discussed.
I guess I'm too much of an idealist, and I know some people will get the wrong idea about me as you said, but you know what, in the interest of liberty and a free market of ideas(evolution), it's a risk I'm willing to take. Make sense?

Thanks for being there and good effort.
Although, this is troubling regarding the video. An explanation from C4L must be delivered. Frankly, I embarassed about this.
Waiting for a response from C4L.
cheers,
donvino
Thank you so much for posting what you have!
It is so good to see him unconfined by a few 'minutes' on the House floor or in hearings.
.
Part II is at 64% right now, I'll put it here as soon as it finishes. In part II you can hear the person tell me "there's no video here".

I'm sure there must have been some reason
whether it was the event center security, a media deal that defrayed costs, or something.
However, taping is so much 'part' of an event with Ron Paul they really should have anounced it in advance, in order to avoid just this sort of bad feeling.
When the event is over and people are back at their offices, we will find out why it happened.
Thanks for what you posted,
Thanks for what you posted, and I hope some are writing C4L to find out WHY.
Private event, Private rules
Usually they tell you up front. It may be the rules of the venue (especially if unionized). It may also have been the contract or contractee.
"Free speech" or the first amendment only applies to congress and via incorporation to other levels of government, not private entities.
It's unfortunate, but oh well. At least you got to see him and we didn't.
It may have been some sort of
issue with CFL media rights for the event?
"They used to come get you and lock you up because you were insane, Now they come get you and lock you up because you are sane"
Maybe, I'm not sure.
I may have to contact someone to find out so I can get some kind of answer. it just felt wrong.

Feels wrong to me, too. It
Feels wrong to me, too. It was free Friday night and open to the public. If there were restrictions then RP should have announced them--or someone should have, before the tap. I tell you, there are a few of us left that hate authority, and I am afraid I would have created a scene if you had been me.
I agree
I would have pushed it right then all the way to the top to get an answer.even if I had to ask Ron himself.
"They used to come get you and lock you up because you were insane, Now they come get you and lock you up because you are sane"
Seems odd
I'm interested to hear the reasons why...
A man who has hate in his heart is not a free man
I would have walked out, and called for others to do likewise
Can they prohibit filming at their private event? Sure. But that's crap. Why would they do that? What are they worried about? That what they say will get out? Isn't that the point? Is it not about the message anymore? All about the money? Even if it were, someone putting up a youtube of what they filmed will only create more publicity for the next event which means more people who want to come see it in person which equals more money. I don't understand? Maybe it's because they give the same speech everywhere and don't want to bother coming up with something new because everyone has already heard it on youtube, i can understand that. Lazy but understandable. It's still pretty lame of them to ban filming and I wouldn't stand for it. I would leave and be very loud about it.
Anyone know of a good reason why they would ban filming at a "liberty summit" ? If there is a good reason I would reconsider but I can't think of any right now.
Who put the summit on?
It might be good to follow up and ask WHY they were not allowed? It does seem weird but would like to hear what anyone finds out.

in case C4L folks see this thread...
This year was in some ways far better than last year - they had more than twice the room, better PA, better layout, better lighting, and a much better stage setup.
Then it rained. You'd think here in Orlando where it rains almost every day that wouldn't be news, but it seems it was. Those of us who drove from way on the other side of town, knew it was Friday night, knew the Star Wars convention was next door, and still planned well enough to get there before 7PM got PUNISHED for it.
The event was delayed multiple times with the sole excuse being traffic and rain and suggesting all those poor folks should get the chance to see Dr. Paul, despite him being the closing speaker. The organizers went (in under an hour) from looking like they had learned a few things to downright PISSING OFF many who had managed to handle the responsibility for being where they wanted to be when the event was scheduled to begin.
It was clear to me that I wasn't the only one ticked at being punished for the sake of those who planned poorly, and I doubt I was the only one whose response to the message and C4L call to action was limited by my frustration with the organizers.
Maybe there was time to announce the video rules while they were stalling, selling raffle tickets or when a speaker's time was spent in silence while he and the audience filled out info cards? Sometime between 7 and close to 8 and when they finally stopped stalling in the hopes more would arrive, quit making excuses for the folks who guessed over 30 minutes wrong in estimating their arrival time, and got underway?
I LOVED the chance to see Dr. Paul speak at length and without interruption again, but I saw him last year. If it weren't my girlfriend's first time seeing the Dr. we'd have been GONE and told people in charge why long before the first speaker ever began.
BAD EVENT MANAGEMENT can doom even the best speaker lineup and otherwise well planned event. Clearly there is more to be learned by the local and state C4L before next year.
Thanks for all the work of the volunteers to make this event happen. Next time I hope there will be someone in charge of making it run as professionally as it looks like it was supposed to.
.
Florida Campaign for Liberty put the event on and I appreciate it, but you can understand how shocked I was. Video is critical to spreading our message as I see it...or at least it really, really helps. I talked to some of my friends today who I haven't completely converted yet, but I'm close...and now I have half a video.

Before you entered was there a sign that said ...
"No video cameras, thank you"?
WAHOR!!
http://www.dailypaul.com/node/48994
no
there were no signs that I saw stating that you couldn't record and last year was a free for all...very party like atmosphere, live band, etc. Dr Paul came out and signed things, I got a picture with him. This years seemed much more formal. It was much bigger though. At least double the people.
