Overview
Robert's Rules of Order - Wikipedia
“Robert's Rules of Order is the short title of a book containing rules of order intended to be adopted as a parliamentary authority for use by a deliberative assembly.

Currently in its tenth edition and published under the name Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised (and often referred to using the initialism RONR) it is the most widely used parliamentary authority in the United States,[1] according to the National Association of Parliamentarians, a professional association of approximately 4,000 members which provides education and accreditation certifications for parliamentarians.”

Gerald Smith
Gerald Smith was the first sigma appointed as national director of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity serving from 1978 until 1990. During its transition from a part time organization to a full time organization, its structure changed from a bottom up organization to a top down organization. He stated, “Parliamentary procedure is the process or running meetings that was taught when I came into the fraternity at every level - state, region, and national conclave. When I was executive director, you could not go to a conclave and not have multiple sessions in the parliamentary procedure because that taught you how to run your meetings; and in fact, at the conclave, the delegates are supposed to be in charge, not as things are done today, where the board is in charge.” (Source 1, 2)

His purpose for producing this training series was to educate the delegates in parliamentary procedure so they would be able to take control of their fraternity as well as other African American organizations of which they where members.

5-12-2012 - PROOF Oklahoma GOP Convention ILLEGALLY ADJOURNED!!!
“The OK GOP Convention was a complete fiasco yesterday morning and into early afternoon. Multiple rules were broken and pleas to follow the rules were IGNORED and DENIED. The delegates were NOT verified and there was at least 84 votes MORE than there were delegates. Chair refused multiple pleas to re-verify the delegates and do a recount. The convention was eventually adjourned by the Chairman WITHOUT a two-thirds vote to do so which made the adjournment illegal and void. The delegates who did not leave went out and met in the parking lot and scrapped everything from the morning and started over correctly following all rules and procedures.” (Video comment says there were problems processing the video.)

like from the OP. I have many of the comments in quotes because I often copy the descriptions on youtube videos, so it's best to keep the quotes when you copy it to your site. See my comment at the top of the post. :-)

The only thing is that my reply to your question was only made to the best of my knowledge as I am not an expert. So it might be good to stick to the quotes the professionals have made, except of course for my general descriptions. I believe I was accurate though.

I do try to update the county and convention videos and generally improve the post periodically as this is not a static post. You may want to check back every once in a while to see if I have added any new comments about recent updates.

Hope this helps~

Wow

Great post and excellent info! Thanks!

malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium

I am an aristocrat. I love liberty; I hate equality. - John Randolph of Roanoke

Your welcome~

I ripped your code

Sure, no problem.

You might want to also add the sections "Robert’s Rules Parliamentary Procedure: Session 2" and "Parliamentary Procedure Video Review: Session 3" which Eleanor 'Coco' Siewart presented for the Metro Detroit Area Campaign for Liberty.

I't might be a good idea to back link to this post on the DP as I periodically try to update the post with videos from various conventions. If you prefer to filter content on you website, thats ok as well.

I't would be great if people could spread word about this post to their Ron Paul contacts. Not everyone has access to good training and if they do it would be helpful to warm up with these links so they can ask educated questions of their parliamentarian trainer.

Hope you find the info helpful.

Edit: I just noticed your Subpages.

I am going to share this website

with all the Ron Paul Republicans on Vashon Island, your videos might help us win seats for our delegates at the district convention.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

The RP 2012 campaign and Campaign for Liberty may have restrictions on where there can direct people so it would be great if if people could spread the word in there meetups or contacts within the campaign.

I started this post a year and a half ago and people are still just finding out about it. I'm not sure what the best way is to hit all of the states with this info. They can copy and take what they want from this page. That's sort of how the Mises Institute spreads their information so fast around the world. They offer the source code for their site and downloads of most of their content for free.

Lets put the free market of ideas and information to work!

:-)

Edit: On your website, don't forget to link to a recent copy of your own county, congressional district, state or local municipality bylaws. Also, these training videos are based off of the 10th edition of Robert's Rules. The basics should be the same but just in case, I created a link in the Books section for the "(Changes)" between the 10th and 11th editions.

Omission -

Back on 2/22/2012, I added four of Eleanor Siewart's videos covering "Oakland County Michigan Republican Party Bylaws & Convention Rules" which they labeled as session 2. Sorry to say, I missed session 1 because it wasn't labeled as such. I've also reordered each of her sessions to show the natural progression of her training(as far as I can tell). Sorry for the confusion; I found the youtube channel, video titles, and different video locations rather confusing.

Just added a few promotional videos

for Susan Leahy's RR training course. Besides selling DVDs, she also offers virtual training for groups. (See sidenote at bottom of comment.)

Mastering the 3 Most Important Motions - The Main Motion, Amendments, Amend the Amendment. “Having everyone on your board master these three motions is essential to learning Robert's Rules of Order and getting your board working as a team!”

How to Avoid the Biggest Robert's Rules Mistakes - “1-Using Robert's Rules of Order as a weapon. 2-Not teaching all members the basics. 3-Relying on institutional knowledge when you shouldn't be. 4-Not restating the motion often enough. 5-Going too fast.”

How to Be an Effective Chair (What to say when...) - “In this video, especially for meeting Chairs, Susan Leahy M.A. teaches how to make powerful interventions to handle difficult meeting situations.”

"Virtual Trainings" - A "Virtual Training" is the modern, effective, affordable way for your board to get custom Robert's Rules of Order education and training no matter where you are located.”

Sidenote:
Ron Paul supporters in Scott County, Iowa used Susan's training materials to learn Robert's Rules of Order. Here is the video where they reference using it.
Caucus Done, What's Next - Ron Paul Delegates - “Members of Superliberty.com prepare for the Scott County, Iowa GOP convention. Ron Paul Delegates learn about the convention process, and Robert's Rules of Order.” (Video skips the RR training portion @ 20:40.)

what?

IM suppose to watch all this just to become a delegate?

No. Just pick the format that appeals

to you. You may not actually use it but it will help you to understand what is going on in the meeting. I just tried to be as comprehensive as possible in case people wanted to go more in depth. :-)

Will be attending my first meeting next monday

In a little over a week I'll be attending my first meeting. This is a wonderful source of info. Thanks so much. Just went through the crash videos which was a big help to start. Wonderful job!

Thanks! It will be

Thanks! It will be interesting for sure. I doubt it will be that impressive, was already told it's lacking values and is very disorganized.

**Added to OP**

When I first created this post, I only included Eleanor Siewart's main videos covering Robert's Rules of Order 10th edition. I left out her videos covering the Oakland County Bylaws because the rules would be unique for each area. I've decided to include them in the OP and below to give an idea of how local rules might apply and for sake of continuity.

Hopefully more and more people see this thread!

This should be everyone's home page.

Thank you so much!

I'm having a hard time garnering the information I need for the county convention, but this seems like a great place to start!

Your welcome :-)

I hope you find it helpful. From watching the videos, Eleanor Siewart class seems to have been given to Ron Paul supporters. Gerald Smiths course was pretty good as well. They all use the 10th edition of Robert's Rules. I just noticed that the 11th edition is out. I'd imagine that the basics are still the same.

Great job!

Thank you for the effort.
