Ashamed to be American? Ex-patriots give up on US

RussiaToday | August 22, 2010

The United States leads the world in the number of legal immigrants it accepts every year. For most new citizens, life in America means better opportunities. But a growing number - 700 last year - have renounced their U.S. citizenship.

Don't leave alone! Take someone with you!

Like say Obama? or Pelosi?
I say, If your heart is not in it, please leave now.
that would be much better than running right when we need you.

after more time to think about it--

I am convinced that this is a personal thing. I have not personally been required to do something against my conscience (except for pay taxes), as was this man. I believe that in *his* case, leaving was the best thing. He tried to speak out/stand up, and he was not restrained and left unheard.

The conscience is a very personal thing. I might happen to feel, even though I *sound* like a "victim" that staying and being 'poor' and prepared and educating those around me is the best way for me to deal with the present condition of this nation.

Patriotism as it is often defined was left behind years ago. The last time I felt my eyes mist up at the thought of the flag was decades ago in another country very far from here--and even then it was tempered with knowledge that all was not as it should be.

I respect this man's decision. If he is for real, he has this right.

I also believe that, while a part of me WANTS to leave, the right thing for me to do is to stay and 'fight', but 'fighting' is a different thing with each person.

For me, the fight is to educate my family, friends, neighbors--and to learn to be self-sustaining in the areas in which I have not, yet, accomplished self-sustenance.

It's really pretty simple.

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Life is short.

If some people found a way to live a better life, to be more free and live in peace, why in the hell are they to blame ?

Good for them !

Note: I would renounce my EU citizenship tomorrow if I could. That wouldn't mean that I wouldn't support the idea of liberty anymore or those who promote this idea.

not sure what to think--

I sympathize with him and believe he has integrity, but I don't have any idea how *I* (we/my family) would 'get out'--

we are barely eating now.

And we work so hard.

There is/always has been a 'plebian' *class* of people who manage to survive, whoever is ruling a particular area--

and I feel that *I* am in that *class*.

To have the power to leave; it's heady.

I can only think of one way of leaving, and it's not suitable at this time.

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

What is patriotism?

Dictionary definition:

devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty.

Am I supposed to love a country that habitually makes war on weaker nations, instituted a system of fascism where government and special interest pass laws that shift wealth out of the pockets of the many into the pockets of the few, and controls a significant portion of what I can or cannot freely do.

I think only a masochist could love, support or defend such a nation. This is no longer a free nation; rather it is one big government run plantation where the majority are slaves.

I think one problem is that as we develop our identities as children, we in part come to think of ourselves as Americans, whatever that means to us. When American becomes ugly as it has, we cling to our identity as American, and make being an American acceptable by undertaking the futile attempt to peacefully change American back to the good image we thought it was.

Those who have the ability to leave are at least for their own benefit, dealing with the reality of what American has become. I don't know if they are finding a better place or not, but I do know that we are not going to be successful in peacefully changing the tyranny that the federal government has become. Just how much allegiance are we supposed to have to a population, the majority of which support what American has become?

My patriotism runs to freedom, not government.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

It really is

the only "TRUE" way for you to stop being a part of the killing machine. Your taxes.....from fuel to sales tax, from federal income tax to all of the others pay for the weapons that kill people that do not deserve it around the world. The military industrial complex is strong, and it was built with a little piece of all of us. To protest and live free you really need to get out and clear yourself of this horror. 99.9999% of the puzzle is missing. We here at the DP are just scratching the surface in my opinion in regards to being "AWAKE". Some of us think we are "AWAKE".....but again....we only think we see a few pieces of a puzzle of thousands pieces.
And to the people that think this is "Running" from the problem....I have to disagree. Many friends of mine have done it. When I visit them...they are so free, and calm, and talk about how they can sleep well at night knowing that they are no longer a part of the killing machine. I think the strongest of the strong have the gonads to pull the trigger to get out. I am working on it. It is amazing how difficult it is to pull up all of the roots here.

IMO

It truly is hard

To pick up and leave. Because when you clear the scum from the surface this truly is a beautiful place. I have been to almost every State in this country and must say there is always beautiful People and Places to be found. Unfortunately while a lot of us were going around and enjoying these gifts and getting the chance to see how our brothers and sisters lived around this country the Powers that be were working hard to destroy them.

"I have found that being rich is not about having the most but about needing the least"

I agree

We live in a gorgeous country.........The thing that really bothers me right now....is that most people just don't care. They get their little check and live....while the corporations get stronger and stronger. Again....sometimes I wish I did not know so much.

I think we have all thought

maybe ignorance is bliss but in the end I feel blessed to have met so many wonderful aware people who make me feel proud to seek truth and do what is right. Ron Paul has shown the way and it is right and just but it isn't easy it is hard and painful.

"We can see with our eyes, hear with our ears and feel with our touch, but we understand with our hearts."

you can turn that around you know.

while I am SURE I will not be able to say it as eloquently as the Judge did, it is actually a priviledge to be able to fight for liberty in it's hour of greatest need!
he said it in a speech he gave last year at the bar-b-cue, in Galveston.
it made me feel a little better to think of it that way.

Too bad none of those were dual-citizens *cough cough*

That is really telling...

Interesting

One must ask the question knowing that you are only given one life on this planet..Now that I'm awake and see that this country has become everything I loathe,That you have been lied to your whole life. Do I spend my life forced to support this or do I leave and join the ranks that have achieved Liberty, prosperity and peace. That way it can grow and like the Good Doctor says others will want to emulate. This is going to continue. There are those that are finally going to say enough is enough..I don't want anymore blood on my hands. The wife and I have been sitting on this fence as well. Wondering whether to stay or go. Even more so now that we have a newborn who unfortunately doesn't even know yet that everyday her country is making more enemies that she is going to have to deal with and debts that she is going to have to pay. FOR WHAT? Like any good business man or woman would ask themselves before investing blood, sweat and tears, What's the return on investment here?

"I have found that being rich is not about having the most but about needing the least"

They cut and ran

With their companies,I'll bet most of these folks probably own big companies and are getting out because it is too hard to continue business here.Unfortunately they are taking jobs with them.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

What if...

our Founding Fathers thought and did as these people. Where would we be today? I am currently working on restoring Constitutional government to the United States of America.

i don't think you understand.

i don't think you understand. the founders did exactly what these people are doing. they fled and renounced their citizenship to their old countries whenever things were at their worst. freedom begins with yourself.

Different circumstances...

There was no constitution just heavy taxes and a king that did as he pleased. I would have left too. We have the U.S. Constitution as the supreme law of the land. We need to restore a Constitutional Government in the United States.

Everyone is different

he tried to speak up when he was here and was hassled. He is likely going to be more productive there than here. It is better that he is alive working to change things than dead. He has not given up and that is the most important thing. I am grateful that he hasn't given in, he is just working from a different place.

Interesting thought...

Thanks - I never thought of it that way.

Nothing changes

I am sure this has been going on for centuries.
