Who would make the ideal Running Mate? (VP)
Submitted by Individualliberty on Sun, 12/16/2007 - 14:41Please post your ideas of who would make Ron Paul’s ideal running mate in 2008. Why do you favor this person? How is this person ideologically similar (or different) to Paul? How does this person add credibility to Paul’s campaign? Does this person already have a legion of ardent supporters? How does this person broaden the appeal of the overall ticket and help court republicans, democrats, or independents over to our side.
Here are some of the people I like for various reasons: (pardon misspelling here)
1. Arnold Schwarzenegger Presence, Name Recognition, Conservative/ Economic Credentials, From Big State CA, Kennedy Political Machine of the Left behind him, Hollywood, Brings Money, & Can take on the immigration issue with credibility since he is an immigrant. (Jessie Ventura)

3. Richard Clarke Terrorism Credibility
4. Michael Scheuer Terrorism Credibility but problem politically with being anti-zionist.
5. Steve Forbes Hardcore Conservative & Economic Credentials/ Credibility Wall Street Vote
6. Michael Bloomberg Economic Credentials/ Credibility too socialist

18. Ron Reagan (Joke)

Vice President
There is a simple solution to this question of VP.
JOHN HAGELIN.....
Natural Law Party
According to then press secretary Robert Roth,[16] the Natural Law Party was founded in 1992 in the United States by a group of educators, business leaders, and lawyers in Fairfield, Iowa, who desired to elect a national administration that would promote field-tested solutions to the nation's problems. This group chose the academics, Dr. Hagelin and Dr. Michael Tompkins, as its Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates that year, and the same pair won the nomination again in 1996. Hagelin also ran for President in the 2000 Presidential election, being nominated both by the Natural Law Party and by the Perot faction of the Reform Party, which disputed the nomination of Pat Buchanan. Hagelin’s running mate in the 2000 election was Nat Goldhaber, a wealthy businessman who, like Hagelin and Tompkins, was a longtime practitioner of the Transcendental Meditation program.
After a legal battle with the supporters of Buchanan, the Federal Election Commission ruled in September of 2000 that Buchanan was the official candidate of the Reform Party and, hence, that Buchanan was eligible for federal election funds. As part of the ruling, the Reform convention that nominated Hagelin was declared invalid, and Hagelin lost the Reform spot on many state ballots to Buchanan. However, Hagelin remained on several state ballots as the Reform Party nominee, due to the independent nature of various state Reform parties, and on the ballot in many other states as the Natural Law Party nominee.
Hagelin's Presidential electoral results:
1992 - Ballot status in 32 states - 39,000 votes - 0.04%.
1996 - Ballot status in 44 states - 110,000 votes - 0.1%.
2000 - Ballot status in 39 states - 83,000 votes - 0.08%.
In the 2004 primary elections, Hagelin endorsed Democratic candidate Dennis Kucinich. In April of 2004, the U.S. Natural Law Party officially disbanded its national organization, although a few state parties still remained active.

Huckabee wants to be our VP
Notice how he moved ever so slightly towards the Ron Paul position with that "arrogant bunker mentality foreign policy" comment about GWB? He also wants to eliminate the IRS - where'd I hear that before? and Fox News claims one of his constituencies is homeschoolers - stolen right off of www.ronpaul2008.com. That said, I don't think he's the right choice. I suggested Badnarik awhile ago, but I don't think he'd bring in many votes. To beat the dems, we'd need someone to help us win New York or California. Too bad Schwarzenegger is out, I don't know enough about Bloomberg to say one way or the other if he'd be the right guy.
I agree with whoever said Scott Ritter
Scott Ritter is intelligent, witty, experienced and deeply patriotic.

I was sitting here looking at this list, thinking 'oh no; i don't have the energy right now to find links and such and explain'...
I am regularly posting about Rockefeller/NWO type associations on SO many issues that come up. When I saw Schwartz-however you spell it [and i'm in CALI]-I about cracked up.
DOBBS? Statist.
BLOOMBERG? Why not just ask Guiliani for goodness sake? Just for the heck of it....
Anyway, this topic was discussed ad nauseum around thanksgiving time on this site.
Was it the governer of SC that RP has indicated interest in? I cannot recall his name off-hand here.
VP
BILL COSBY
BOB BARR...
http://www.bobbarr.org/
Bob Barr represented the 7th District of Georgia in the U. S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003, serving as a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, as Vice-Chairman of the Government Reform Committee, and as a member of the Committee on Financial Services.
Barr now works tirelessly to help preserve our fundamental right to privacy and our other civil liberties guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. Bob does this through his work in a number of forums. For example, he occupies the 21st Century Liberties Chair for Freedom and Privacy at the American Conservative Union, and serves as a Board Member of the National Rifle Association. He is also a member of The Constitution Project’s Initiative on Liberty and Security. Bob served as a Member of the Long-Term Strategy Project for Preserving Security and Democratic Norms in the War on Terrorism, at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University from 2003 to 2005. In fact, recognizing Bob Barr’s leadership in privacy matters, New York Times columnist William Safire has called him “Mr. Privacy.”
More on Bob Barr...
Bob remains active in political matters, and serves on the Libertarian Party National Committee.
Bob is President and CEO of Liberty Strategies, LLC, a public policy consulting firm headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia with offices in the Washington, D.C. area.
Bob was appointed by President Reagan to serve as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia (1986-90), and served as President of Southeastern Legal Foundation (1990-91). He was an official with the CIA (1971-78), and practiced law for many years. He currently serves Of Counsel with the Law Offices of Edwin Marger, with a national and international practice in both civil and criminal law.

I second that!
Mark Sanford is the best choice for VP. He would make a great president in 8 years - after RP serves 2 terms!

SCOTT RITTER WOULD BE PHENOMANAL AS VP
SCOTT RITTER HAS THE INTEGRITY AND WOULD WORK WELL WITH RON PAUL HE HAS AUTHORED A BOOK "WAGING PEACE".
Check him out see what you think!
Rand Paul
id have to say most of your suggestions are abhorrent......
Ross Perot
How about Ross Perot for VP?
Ron Paul for Freedom!!
Ron Paul for Freedom!!
Oh come on, forget it!
It is useless to even remotely think about the running mate. The way way more useful thing would be to get onto the road, phone, people's doors to spread the word in your town. Do whatever you can to spread the word. Just 18 days away from Iowa and 23 from NH and a win or strong showing in both the states is nothing but absolutely vital.
Please stay away from these entangling arguments and use your mental and physical energy to spread the word and bring more and more citizens to RP's side.

John Fogerty!
He can play rhythm guitar behind Ron during the state of the union. That's what America really needs.

The Dr. and the Judge
Judge Andrew Napolitano. I hate to echo what is a popular choice, but he is absolutely perfect. He synchs up with Ron Paul on every issue, from the Constitution, to civil liberties, abortion, and even, surprisingly, the War on Drugs.
Napolitano also balances out the ticket with the charisma and ethnicity that Paul lacks. And who knows, with the Judge on the ticket, Fox News might even say a good thing or two about RP.
"Never forget that there was only one freedom on which this country was founded, and that was freedom from government."
"Never forget that there was only one freedom on which this country was founded, and that was freedom from government."
Is he perfect? Are he and
Is he perfect? Are he and Ron Paul on the same page with the illegal immigration issue? I don't think so. I think Napolitano is more an open borders amnesty type guy. :(
Judge
He is a terrific passionate speaker too!
1. Arnold Schwarzenegger --
1. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- Immigrants can't be president in the constitution. They cannot be VP either.
2. Pat Buchanan -- Possibly
5. Steve Forbes -- Possibly
6. Michael Bloomberg -- Socialist/Statist
8. Ralph Nader -- Never, he's a commie
9. Jude Andrew Napolitano -- Possibly
10. Tom Tancredo -- Doubtful
11. Scott Garett -- Maybe, but not a big name.
12. Jim Cramer -- Eh, he's a liability. He's a liberal, and if they start looking into it, they'll quickly find out some of the shady dealings that made him rich.
13. Jack Welsh -- Six Sigma is great, but not a VP candidate
15. Barry Goldwater, Jr. -- Possibly, does he want to get back into politics?
16. Larry Kudlow -- Strongly doubt it.
17. Lou Dobbs -- only sort of fits, and I don't really think him and Ron can work as a team.
18. Ron Reagan -- I WISH.

Most of the posts I've read here are not anywhere close to mentioning credible candidates for running-mates. Its like a bunch of wacky fringe politicians, celebrities and people picked for little besides that they were the first black or female with any charisma that came to mind.
If you want to play right into the hands of the old media who want to portray this campaign as a place for fringe-wackos keep rolling out the names.
I'd call the suggestions childish if not for the fact that some of the celebrities being suggested on the basis of the value of their name recognition only have names that would be nostalgically recognized by people my age or older. You are not only silly, you are out of touch.
Ron Paul doesn't need or want actors or politicians. He instinctively distrusts Washington insiders and would have nothing to do with almost any of them. And that will include anyone higher up in the military as well as anyone in the federal law enforcement or intelligence organizations.
Colin Powell is a joke. He floated the idea of running for president a while back, as a Republican, but when asked about issues it turned out that he really liked affirmative action and a lot of social programs that he thought had helped him to get where he was in life. His only connection to republican values, similar to Giuiliani, was their respect for the culture of honor of the armed forces.
Ron Paul was asked about cabinet members and mentioned that he liked people like Thomas Sowell and John Stossel (press seceretary?)
The people I know of that he associates with most outside of Washington are people with similar ideology in the Mises institute and the libertarian culture.
Paul admitted to having sometimes given his vote to the Libertarian running for president in the past. He gets along with them.
One of my favorite people to imagine as Dr. Paul's running mate would be someone like Mary J. Ruwart PH D. With her you get the cachet of having a woman on the ticket, to match Hillary, and also double the doctor power by adding a pharmaceutical research scientist who is also a libertarian who understands economics and has written wonderful books re-framing the hard questions often asked of libertarians in a way that even bleeding-heart liberals can understand and be won over by.
Together they can inspire confidence that they can fix health-care, tame the FDA, and all regulatory law. As well as take on the economic situation of the country.
Or so I imagine.
This whole thread is a joke?
Please, do your homework before you start speculating about these people.
1.- Arnold Schwarzenegger is a shill for the Rockefellers, global warming and the NWO. He's married to a Kennedy after all! He's an insider's insider. Good grief!
2.- Pat Buchanan would be my FIRST choice on this list. Conservative, independent and not a shill for the Rockefellers.
3. Richard Clarke Terrorism Credibility - OMG, once again, no homework done here. Clarke is the CFR's insider's insider: (http://www.africaspeaks.com/blog/?p=47)
4. Michael Scheuer Terrorism Credibility but problem politically with being anti-zionist. --- According to whom? The politically correct? He speaks the truth and isn't afraid, and is accused of the very thing he is complaining about; your opposition to foreign policy does NOT make you anti-semitic....you people ought to know this buy now. The 'anti-semitic' thing is WAY overused. How can you fall for it? (http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/00...)
5. Steve Forbes Hardcore Conservative & Economic Credentials/ Credibility Wall Street Vote and CFR MEMBER
6. Michael Bloomberg - OMG, OMG! The biggest Rockefeller globalist/elitist CFR member of them all! Do you know ANYTHING AT ALL about this person? Why not just ask Ron to have the DEVIL as his VP? This would be akin to having Hillary Clinton as his VP. Please, do your homework before you talk so foolishly about recommending THIS guy! Whew!
7. Chuck Hagel - another Rockefeller globalist/elitist shill for the CFR.
8. Ralph Nader - "strong voice for change" is not enough and means nothing. I don't want that "change" to be socialism.
9. Jude Andrew Napolitano - YES.
10. Tom Tancredo - MAYBE
15. Barry Goldwater - YES
17. Lou Dobbs - flaming liberal....sorry.
The rest don't matter...because they are not VP material..
PUHLEEESE, do some homework?
Jane Aitken...Lou Dobbs...a flaming liberal?
You drinking anything besides tea tonight? (JK) Anyway, I don't believe we need a Ron Paul double in a VP. We need someone that knows the in and outs of capitial hill.
